What is this organisation and why would a children's charity want to "achieve a charter mark" from them?

I found a costs page on their website, what are they charging this money for exactly? It seems like a lot.

You could have just let this thread wither and die Bridge, but you have bumped it to the top of FWR again. Confused

Are you an insider and is this a cry for help?

Bridgebuilder76 · 03/10/2018 22:36

Just thought I'd check in and see how are all your investigations are going. Uncovered any more horrifying anecdotes of LGBT Youth Scotland caring for young people? Looking after kids on the verge of suicide? Maybe even... Dun dun duuuuun… trying to make schools less awful places?

Anyone been offered a job at MI5 yet? SuperLoud, I know you have!

AngryAttackKittens · 02/10/2018 19:41

Dysphoric gay males are being used as human shields, Sylvanian. The people using them know that there are a lot of women who feel the way you do, and who're OK with sharing say toilets with what you could call the Thai khathoey type but would not be OK with sharing those same spaces with say Alex Drummond, and so it's in their interests that when transwomen in women's spaces are mentioned it's the khathoey type that most people picture.

Unfortunately in the UK people like that are now very much a minority in terms of the overall "trans umbrella". People think they're agreeing to one thing and are going to get something else entirely.

HamletsSister · 02/10/2018 19:22

And why can't women discuss it? What is it about this that gets people so riled up?

SylvanianFrenemies · 02/10/2018 16:21

Has anyone noticed how willing some campaigners are to make this an "anti-trans" discussion instead of a an "anti erosion of women's rights and safety"? With the assumption that all male bodied people who self identify as female have the same motivations? Makes it easy to look like we are attacking poor, distressed, unfortunate people just getting in with their lives, rather than encores sing concerns about removing privacy and safeguarding.

I know not everyone on FWR agrees with me, but I don't have a massive problem with born-male people who've made determined, established steps/had surgery to "live as a woman" in certain female spaces. I do have a problem with a free for all that centres male dominance, even if those males call themselves women. And fuck giving up my right to ask an evident man (as per Jacinta or Karen) to leave a female space in case he pretends he thinks he is a woman.

The comparison between this and the oppression of gay people is insulting bullshit designed to distract, because addressing the real arguments is impossible.

And still none of the anti-feminists answers "what is a woman"....

www.lobbying.scot/SPS/InformationReturn/SearchInformationReturnDetail/4593

www.lobbying.scot/SPS/LobbyingRegister/SearchLobbyingRegister

A search on this website shows 14 occasions when representatives from this organisation were lobbying - some of it on issues such as homelessness which hit a lot of communities, but where they framed their lobbying to look at their particular demographic.

On other occasions they seem to be repeatedly trying to put across the same message.

A cursory search does not show any lobbying on issues to do specifically with lesbians, or with girls. In fact, they only seem to be lobbying about the GRA most of the time.

Theinconstantgardener · 02/10/2018 15:42

that should have said does NOT take lobbies

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 02/10/2018 14:56

BridgeBuilder76 I don't want my daughter using communal changing rooms and showers where men & boys might be. How is that scaremongering?

Theinconstantgardener · 02/10/2018 14:37

Has anyone spoken to their MSP about the supposed government endorsement?
yes, I did. He looked astounded. He also assured me he does take lobbies from this group .I also asked if anyone in the government was overseeing the legality, never mind morality, of the stuff being produced for schools and 'training' of public bodies. He didn't answer but in all fairness that was one in a number of questions I asked him....

HamletsSister · 02/10/2018 14:09

Has anyone spoken to their MSP about the supposed government endorsement? Surely, they must be taking some action about this. What if I wanted to produce a leaflet on, for example, how important a strong Union is with the rest of the UK. Can I just say it is endorsed by ScotGov?

Surely, they must be accountable to someone?

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 02/10/2018 09:14

Roshni did similar by overplaying statistics on eg news reports.

They're not around anymore.

LemonJello · 02/10/2018 08:55

I’d like to believe that the organisational aims and approach with regard to transgender issues is simply in conflict with the rights of girls, and the organisation has insufficient experience and understanding to be able to recognise and navigate this conflict of rights.

However the misrepresentation of a Government endorsement suggests either extreme incompetence or deliberate deception.

AngryAttackKittens · 02/10/2018 08:53

Wow, as a bystander, bridgebuilder's interjection just raises red flags.

Indeed. It's like a loudspeaker announcing "potential concerns here, please do more research".

LemonJello · 02/10/2018 08:44

Mmm. I disagree with how you have characterised my concerns. But I’m not going to argue with you amd detail this thread about an organisation which recommends that girls who don’t wish to change in front of male people be reminded of “respect”.

I don’t think it’s disrespectful to not want to get changed in front of boys. I think for an organisation to explicitly state this to girls is deeply concerning.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 02/10/2018 08:38

Male humans being women is an ideology. It isn't a reality.
It's a fiction which causes distress to many lesbians.

It's like if the ku klux klan came along and said 'black people have their rights now. Black Lives Matter needs a black-identifying president of Transracial history'

Oh wait that's happening too. Not the kkk but 'woke' white lefties.

Similar to the group pushing this agenda.

Estellesylvia · 02/10/2018 08:38

There’s a lot that is terrifying about this thread Bridge, but transphobia isn’t one of those things.

How does it feel to know you’re backing a misogynistic movement that campaigns for the end of women’s safety and the medicalisation and sterilisation of healthy children?

I suggest that people uninformed about the end result of girls being told they are born in the wrong body by LGBT Youth and their like, google arm phalloplasty. It’s grim and horrific and the side of transing children that people like Bridge don’t want you to see.

Bridgebuilder76 · 02/10/2018 08:34

It's terrifying how these threads echo our recent past of demonising gay people. The use of the word "ideology". The scaremongering about toilets and changing rooms. The repeated nudges about paedophilia. The "think of the children!?!" narrative.

How does it feel to know you're responsible for history repeating?

LemonJello · 02/10/2018 08:30

Btw this thread is being very closely watched

Yes I don’t doubt this.

Interesting how questions regarding safeguarding and wellbeing of children seem to make people tetchy these days.

LemonJello · 02/10/2018 08:22

a bunch of misinformed people

People keep popping up on here assuming that misinformation is the root of my problem with the trans ideology. It’s not. I had to correct the last person who suggested this as they themselves had misunderstood the Equality Act 2010. That seems to be a bit of a pattern.

Also yes, I have been in contact with LGBT Youth Scotland directly on more than one occasion regarding this.

HTH

HamletsSister · 02/10/2018 08:14

Can I ask about the schools thing? Am a teacher in Scotland. Are they in schools? Which Councils?

Who is paying? School budgets are so stretched that this kind of thing must be funded from elsewhere.

And if they are in schools (which is a huge issue) then how do we get content / lesson planning?

How do we know that they are not leaving girls with ROGD in their wake?

Why are they in primary schools if their remit is teens and young adults?

Also, why (look on the lobbying Scotland website) have they repeatedly lobbied Holyrood for changes in policy that will affect women and girls.

lydiamajora · 02/10/2018 06:30

Why do I keep hearing the sound of billygoats' hooves trip-trapping in the distance??

Estellesylvia · 02/10/2018 06:13

Btw this thread is being very closely watched - be careful what you post and don’t get yourselves banned.

Amy organisation whose guidelines remove boundaries for girls in schools needs to be closely scrutinised, though.

Salazaar · 02/10/2018 00:04

sylvanian did you just reply with "well duh"? Very smart... I have no idea how to answer that well thought out response. I'm humbled...

However, the parallels between oppression (and scare mongering) of gay men and women, the battles they went through to be recognised legally, and fighting against the public and government which deemed homosexuality as curable and a mental health issue, are clearly obvious. As per the remarks on this post and many others on the Feminism board.

In 10/20 years time, transgenderism will be as widely accepted as homosexuality.

underhereye also has it spot on when mentioning the respect issues regarding transwomen respecting a CIS woman's right to privacy and a safe place for us.

Personally, I have less of an issue with a trans woman using the same changing rooms or loo. I have more of an issue with communal changing rooms, toilets, hospital wards etc...

Whatevszz · 02/10/2018 00:04

Wow, as a bystander, bridgebuilder's interjection just raises red flags.

SylvanianFrenemies · 01/10/2018 23:51

Many people consider genitals one if the significant differences between men and women.

But up you'd rather sidestep that line of discussion I'd still love to know "What s a woman?"
