You are all much better at commenting on the issues than me but I just have to say it boils my blood that TRAs gloss over pregnancy risks.

Pregnancy is DANGEROUS it is a risk to LIFE. Birth is DANGEROUS it is a risk to LIFE.

FFS. It’s almost as if TRAs haven’t experienced the risks, pain and debilitation of pregnancy, birth and long lasting birth injuries.

And abortion is not a physically neutral act either, along with the morning after pill.

I am absolutely SICK of people acting like the female reproductive system is not integral to the health of our bodies overall. Penises and testicles are outside, separate. Wombs are totally intertwined with the working of the whole body during pregnancy.

The biologically is not just visibly different it is different on EVERY conceivable level that’s what mothers instinctively understand (having been through pregnancy) and want to protect their girls from while they are still too young and vulnerable to really be able to make informed choices (not that most grown women make informed choices about pregnancy in our society anyway due to patriarchy and misogyny).

Personally I feel that Scouts have got it spot on.

I know a scout leader and she said alot of sexual (consentual) activity goes on between the teens. I assume some parents send to guides to avoid this. Where will those girls go now?

Onlyhappywhenitrains1 · 25/09/2018 11:13

no children are never inherently abusive

Actually some are, usually because they have a personality or neurological disorder. Like calloused and unemotional traits.

You're very nieve and should look up the history of some prolific criminals, you'll see alot offend from a young age and have no abuse or trauma in their backgrounds.

LadyBrian · 25/09/2018 11:01

Caught up now.

Did Suzie Green miss a lot of schooling or something?

KatVonGulag · 25/09/2018 11:00

I think the worst bit is the edging out of trans boys. If they wanna be guides let them.

Schools know it's nonsense or my daughter wouldn't be allowed to sleep with a trans boy.

KatVonGulag · 25/09/2018 10:58

*biological male and female leaders

Whoops

Again

Gileswithachainsaw · 25/09/2018 10:58

I just saw this it finally got put up.

How thick is she.of course self ID is relevant. No one under 18 can have a grc so any trans kid is self identified.Hmm

KatVonGulag · 25/09/2018 10:57

Well done for this fight. Safeguarding is more important than their cult.

Personally I feel that Scouts have got it spot on. Anyone can join but you sleep / shower with your biological sex. Biological male and female have to attend camp if both sexes are present.

If Guides is becoming unisex they need to follow these really basic safeguarding rules.

Juells · 25/09/2018 10:56

One of her priorities is to increase the membership in areas where Guides have not traditionally had a presence

Like boys and men 😂

Annandale · 25/09/2018 10:54

Was there any mention of girls who are gender questioning, or even settled on social transitioning, being 'encouraged' to leave GG? To me that's one of the most shocking elements of this extraordinary policy. Your thoughts Bespin? Can't undrstand why Stephen Whittle thinks this is fine as well, given that he was a girl who found GG uniquely supportive in a hard adolescence.

I also do think it is perfectly possible for boys to be sexually assaulted or bullied when sharing sleeping accommodation with a group of girls. All part of the grooming of ALL children to accept any sexualised situatuon they find themselves in without question.

R0wantrees · 25/09/2018 10:54

I think that is why GG are stuffed atm. The change has come from outside agencies. It is nothing to do with the Girl Guiding ethos, or any of the people that actually run the units and oversee the areas.

It's perplexing to reconcile Julie Bentley's interview from 2012 when she was appointed head of GG;
(extract)
"Ms Bentley’s entire career has been at the sharp end of the voluntary sector work. She spent many years in youth work with drug and alcohol abusers before running the Suzy Lamplugh Trust. At the FPA she campaigned for the cervical cancer vaccination for girls and wider access to contraception among young women in the face of cuts to services.

But she sees no contradiction in this work and her role at the Guides. “I have worked in a wide range of settings and have a broad insight into what affects girls. I don’t think any of this is at odds with the Girl Guides. In fact I believe the Guides is the ultimate feminist organisation.”

And she has some surprising news for people who fear her arrival will mean classes on contraception for Guides: “It is already happening. Sexual health is covered very well by the Guides and many leaders conduct excellent sessions on the subject.”

One of her priorities is to increase the membership in areas where Guides have not traditionally had a presence, in particular in disadvantaged urban areas, so that more girls such as her have a chance to join.

She was never a Guide herself, coming from a working-class home in Essex where “joining things was not something we did — it was partly a class thing”. But she wishes she had." (cont)

BiologyMatters · 25/09/2018 10:51

It is such a bad message to send to young girls that if a male says he wants, he needs, he feels then she isn't even allowed to acknowledge what's happening never mind object or question.

This needs repeating. Again and a-fucking- gain.

GulagMilkMonitor · 25/09/2018 10:48

Local Authorities wont like this, or rather they wont be able to afford for Government housing guidelines to change. A family of four with two adults but two same sex but different gendered teenagers will need a three bedroom property not a two bedroom one. The children then leave home but the couple remains, possibly for decades, paying their bedroom tax.

I have a very large family. If I needed to be housed - what on earth would happen in a few years, if I said “all of my children over the age of 10 identify as a different one of the 100 (?) genders”?

R0wantrees · 25/09/2018 10:47

Needmoresleep

The single sex requirement for children over 10 years is for safeguarding and child protection.

There are serious potential consequences if this principle is eroded for those children at risk /experiencing sexual abuse by parent/sibling,

It also exists to protect dignity and privacy.

Melamin · 25/09/2018 10:45

The point of safeguarding is that adults make the choices, set the boundaries for the children to safeguard any possible outcome no matter how rare.

The trouble is that if there is a known loophole, the 'rare outcomes' stop being quite so rare, but the adults in charge do not notice and do not expect it because it is rare. Then the organisation has a big job turning things around, because those with a vested interest in keeping things that way are in positions of power, and they have to fight for control.

Melamin · 25/09/2018 10:42

And of course Ruth Hunt is a Shelter trustee

It seems to be the same pool of people hopping around from one Charity running position to another, climbing the greasy pole. They are brought in to 'do a job' from the outside, to make the charity 'compliant'. I think it was Lisa M who said they were all the thickos from Oxbridge, who felt they were entitled to the right sort of job, but couldn't get the big ones in the city etc. In the 80s, it they were all into PR. Big Society has opened a lot of jobs in the Charity Sector, doing running, finance and compliance.

I think that is why GG are stuffed atm. The change has come from outside agencies. It is nothing to do with the Girl Guiding ethos, or any of the people that actually run the units and oversee the areas.

VickyEadie · 25/09/2018 10:41

Correct. Too many organisations - including schools - are accepting the notion that there is no risk involved.

VickyEadie · 25/09/2018 10:34

from this child's perspective (and I've experienced this in my profession) they might want to be changing and toileting separately. To the girls or the boys.

Yes - and the Mermaids/Gires guidance usually says the trans kids get a choice about it. Unlike the girls...

Needmoresleep · 25/09/2018 10:32

I completely disagree with Kate Hoey on Brexit.
I completely agree with her on this.
It's not unusual to agree with people on some issues and disagree with them on others.

Exactly, except on this issue where there is only one truth and everything else is denied, and considered hate - even science and the dictionary. The more people, of whatever persuasion, who call this out, the better.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 25/09/2018 10:32

Is anyone old enough to remember those punk family trees where you could see who played with who 'oh, look Jon moss used to drum in the damned'.

We need one of those for this mess.

Ekphrasis · 25/09/2018 10:31

all girls have a right to privacy and dignity and you don't see trans girls as girls others do and therefore they are all entitled to this. any girl that did not respect that would be a issue

Blood boiling. Do you know what? Actually any child has a right to dignity. Including a child who is having 'gender issues' - from this child's perspective (and I've experienced this in my profession) they might want to be changing and toileting separately. To the girls or the boys.

VickyEadie · 25/09/2018 10:31

I question any adult, male or female of any gender that wants to remove safeguarding and dignity of girls.

Me too. It should disbar them from having anything to do with it.

Needmoresleep · 25/09/2018 10:30

A financial incentive to encourage your teenage son to wear a dress. Or more likely, a financial incentive to encourage a confused teenager to think they are in the wrong body.
