This whole thing is so muddled now.

Treasure114 · 25/09/2018 09:09

Mermaids are playing the likes and retweets algorithm to bounce their replies to the top of the thread underneath that tweet. what does this mean, is it whoever has the most likes / retweets comes first or is it more complicated than that?

IceRebel · 25/09/2018 09:06

I would love a link to watch the discussion, very disappointed to have missed it.

Floisme · 25/09/2018 09:06

I’m so glad it went well. Can I just backtrack and say bloody well done to Kate Hoey. Am I right in thinking she’s facing reselection difficulties? If so that’s a brave thing to do (which is madness but there it is).

Onlyhappywhenitrains1 · 25/09/2018 09:04

Just watching on catch up. She agrees that boys and girls should be split up, but trans girls can be with the girls because they are girls. So she must then believe that we split up boys on girls bases on their personalities not based on their bodies or biology. Funny that because I didn't think it was personality that gave you errections and got women pregnant.

LangCleg · 25/09/2018 09:03

BTW - for those on a laptop, typing into a draft email and copy pasting is a workaround until they fix the return key business.

Iused2BanOptimist · 25/09/2018 09:03

Ooh. 💡 I didn't understand about the algorithm thing. All is clear now. (What I've learned in about six years on twitter!) Thanks for the education!

LangCleg · 25/09/2018 09:02

Wow. That was excellent. Caroline Farrow understands safeguarding comprehensively and can compact points with clarity so that she can fit a lot into a few seconds of speaking.

I'm at the point where I don't worry about who "wins" the debate - just having someone allowed to put the points actually is so bloody unusual.

Ereshkigal · 25/09/2018 09:02

Helen denying that Jane Fae advised GGUK. It's a shame GGUK haven't managed to do so as far as I know.

Marcipex "Transgirls are boys" Absolutely, Transgirls are in fact ADOLESCENT BOYS and that makes it a problem for girls.

Melamin · 25/09/2018 09:01

Mogloveseggs - there are ways of quiet resistance - keeping the door open for a change of policy. GG have really backed themselves into a corner over this so they are making it hard for themselves to do anything without losing face. When you read about groups that encourage these changes, they get the organisation in line then encourage them to dismiss any dissent and then stop engaging. This is what GG have done and it doesn’t work. I hope there are lots of committed Guiders like you (and the Guider my DDs had who has committed her entire life to Guiding) who can pull the organisation through in the form that was intended.

ILuvBirdsEye · 25/09/2018 08:59

Did non GC girls/trans boys being pushed out/excluded from Guides come up at all? No - it didn't. Was just delighted to hear the word safeguarding loud and clear. And SG's puzzled face... but why?

GulagMilkMonitor · 25/09/2018 08:58

If the first tweets under that GMB tweet are mermaids then everything else will get lost to anyone who is already committed to this battle and debate. Ideally we need to retweet/like the same tweet to amplify it.

ILuvBirdsEye · 25/09/2018 08:58

BiologyMatters SG did say why... it's because they get the gold medal in the opression olympics.

VickyEadie thank you for asking! I was swearing at my phone thinking it was time to pack it in! Have been adding tons of blank spaces for some seperation.

TheClitterati · 25/09/2018 08:56

I didn't see the interview so thanks for this thread. It was great to follow from bed.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 25/09/2018 08:55

Melamin that is an excellent point. Where is Guiding's new CEO? This is huge national news at long last. Am surprised that they are leaving Susie Green to argue their point.

hackmum · 25/09/2018 08:54

BiologyMatters: "why not focus on the feelings of all the girls and whether they want to get changed and sleep in a tent with a boy." I agree about this. Although Helen did an excellent job yesterday on World At One, she made her case by talking about girls who had been sexually abused, girls from religious backgrounds etc, who wouldn't want to share a tent with boys. The simple truth is that teenage girls should not be forced to share a tent with teenage boys. It doesn't matter what the reason. Most of us don't want to get undressed in front of a member of the opposite sex, however harmless they are. I certainly wouldn't want to share a tent with an adult male, regardless of whether he wears a dress and calls himself Dora.

deepwatersolo · 25/09/2018 08:53

Yes, Melamin, it is indeed curious that GG does not defend its position - except for some apodictic 'transgirls are girls' and 'we followed procedures' statement on social media.

Either they are digging in a la 'this is not even a discussion, so why should we discuss it', or they have been caught off-guard regarding saeguarding questions and their duties in that respect (outlined in latest Lisa Muggeridge video).

Wrathofjurgenklop · 25/09/2018 08:52

Mermaids are playing the likes and retweets algorithm to bounce their replies to the top of the thread This is a very good point.

Marcipex · 25/09/2018 08:50

I missed it but I'm really glad it's got air time. Transgirls are still boys, whatever they say. The whole self ID notion is ridiculous. It used to be called 'pretending'.

Ereshkigal · 25/09/2018 08:49

Quick google shows NSPCC recommends that children 10 and over of different sex should not share a room.

That's the kind of thing that NSPCC should have been prepared to answer questions about when they came to do their Facebook chat.

BiologyMatters · 25/09/2018 08:48

I didn't catch the start of the debate so maybe it was mentioned but I wish that just for once someone would say rather than focus on that one person and why their feelings trump all else, why not focus on the feelings of all the girls and whether they want to get changed and sleep in a tent with a boy. I'm so fucking over girls and women being used to treat someone else's dysphoria or indulge someone else's exploration of their "gender identity". We should not have to be collateral damage.

boatyardblues · 25/09/2018 08:47

IT is interesting that GG are not out there defending their position but leaving it up to trans activists You cannot defend the indefensible.

GulagMilkMonitor · 25/09/2018 08:47

Melamin · 25/09/2018 08:45

IT is interesting that GG are not out there defending their position but leaving it up to trans activists who, with the best will in the world, do not have GirlGuiding at the heart of their motivations at all. Piers Morgan can vie with JHB for the interviewer who asks the most hard hitting questions. John Humphrys and the rest of the BBC have left the field wide open there.
