Women on the left are responsible for austerity

I've heard it said that women on the left actually support and are therefore in some way responsible for austerity. This is because both Labour and the Tories support austerity. Therefore any woman who supports Labour, or the Left in general, also knowingly and consciously supports austerity and are therefore also responsible for the 1000s of deaths of disabled people caused by austerity. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

So, in the spirit of this thread, I thought, I'll post a link of Guy McPherson, an evolutionary biologist who thinks global warming will kill us off in the near future. (He is not wrong on the principle based on academic research, except his certainty on the time frame and certain inevitablility is not quite justified imo. But not even him advocates hunting and gathering. He has been into permaculture.)

It is actually quite a funny, entertaining interview.

Enjoy! Wink

Come on women. You are ridiculing a radical analysis of the roots of female oppression and the subsequent ecocide of the worlds biomass, and upholding the idea that women on the left are responsible for 1000s of deaths of disable people by describing welfare cuts as "tory austerity".

This is a really good example of the cult of personality. You prefer to dismiss evidence based arguments and uphold the fanciful based purely on the personalities involved. Don't you want to think for yourselves?

Today foraging, tomorrow pitched battles over the strawberry patch!

CarrotyO · 18/09/2018 08:47

I find it quite shocking how many people are responding with anger and ad hominems in response to new ideas. I don't know, I kind of expected the FWR board to be a little bit more open to discussion and the consideration of different ideas

But I am considering giving up modern life and just foraging for vegetables.

And this is how The Great Allotment Wars of 2019 began.

Everyone has their own moral compass but I personally find it much easier to sleep at night when actually doing something to mitigate a shitty situation rather than sitting on my hands bleating on about fucking anarcho-starvation or whatever this shit is

I am an active campaigner, and I do a lot to attempt to improve things in the here and now. This is just a political view that I have, based on evidence which people have picked up on and derailed the thread over. Why don't you respond to the OP?

*Only for the surviving few. The strongest and fittest. I've been to places like the Himalayas, with people living very simple lives (albeit still agricultural). It is cool as long as you are fit. If you don't mind possibly living without your front teeth or so from your teenage years on.

And those people could still rely on 'imports' like noodles. You have a very romanticized idea of living as a hunter and gatherer. If you live and die by the laws of nature, you are always only a step away from starvation. I very much doubt that in such a world, where physical fitness is paramount and women can't really be counted on as leaders, 'cause who knows if she survives the next birth..., women can find liberation in any form.*

You've described people who live an agricultural lifestyle and the hardships they face, as an argument in favour of an agricultural lifestyle... I know it's early but...

An explosion in population numbers is not a sign of a healthy community and its a sure fire way to threaten its continued existence.

But you know, how the 'self correction mechanisms' there, right? Life expectancies

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 08:35

Page 6, rather.

On the agriculture leading to low life expectancy thing, today's did you know is, did you know some of the longest lived people in the world are in Japan and Italy? Both countries with no agriculture to speak of, of course.

(Strokes chin thoughtfully)

Dragoncake · 18/09/2018 08:35

Got you. AAK and deepwatersolo. Makes sense now. Sigh.

deepwatersolo · 18/09/2018 08:32

One might suggest that the comment at the top of page 3 is a bit of an indication of what's actually going on in this thread. If one were the suspicious type.

I will say that I was surprised that a radical feminist would get all hung up on being misgendered.

deepwatersolo · 18/09/2018 08:29

Bison are a food source for humans so makes sense to allow them to thrive.

This thread has descended far far away from the realms of reality but here we go, for the sake of anyone still reading who is worried about what politics is becoming.

As a Labour woman organising on the left I have helped to get Labour councillors elected in my area. This means that we have a small dedicated group of people who are working bloody hard locally to protect jobs and public services which are under sustained attack from the right on a national level. What people on the doorstep outside the political bubble want when you actually fucking speak to them is decent housing, decent education for their kids, to be able to afford to feed everyone and have a bit of joy in their lives. When you get good people elected this is what you can work towards.

Everyone has their own moral compass but I personally find it much easier to sleep at night when actually doing something to mitigate a shitty situation rather than sitting on my hands bleating on about fucking anarcho-starvation or whatever this shit is.

GulagMilkMonitor · 18/09/2018 08:25

The fuck is this thread?

Dragoncake · 18/09/2018 08:25

You don’t like the idea that we should empower girls and women to be able to assert boundaries over their bodies? Hmm interesting

I'm not the reporting type, but would ask you to retract that vile accusation. I stated clearly that control over our own bodies is a basic human right.

LangCleg · 18/09/2018 08:24

I still don't understand why an anarcho-primitivist radical feminist is so invested in the righteousness of Labour activism and defending the no platforming and public shunning of a woman for wrongthink that they join a forum to point it out. This would seem antithetical to both an anarchist and a radical feminist outlook.

But y'know - I know nothing of left activism and my eggs are well and truly sucked.

CarrotyO · 18/09/2018 08:20

Have you looked much into the history of women’s oppression?

As for mortality rates, life expectancy (as well as quality of life) drops severely when cultures shift to an agricultural based system.

If that was so, we would have seen an explosion in population numbers during the hunter-gatherer phase of humanity and the Amazon would long have been overpopulated by hunting and gathering tribes. We didn't. We don't see that, though. And it doesn't have to do with women in those tribes taking full control of rigorous contraception, for what I know.

CarrotyO · 18/09/2018 08:04

Deepwatersolo.

You asked why I care more about bison than humans. I care about both. Bison are a food source for humans so makes sense to allow them to thrive.

Er, what part of this wasn't clear?

Control over our own bodies and reproductive systems is a basic human right

CarrotyO · 18/09/2018 08:01
