Stonewall would probably argue some of its staff identify as black and that there is an over-representation of feminine genders, so that's alright then.

... or alternatively Ruth Hunt is a strong woman who knows her own mind and is passionate about LGBT unity.

Always the women who get attacked for being trans allies.

VickyEadie · 16/09/2018 18:50

Turph

Fair points, well made.

Turph · 16/09/2018 18:46

That group of people is extremely large, so she'd be in good company.
No I single Ruth out. She prides herself on being an intelligent butch lesbian but she's had the wool pulled over her eyes and she's thrown gay and lesbian people under the bus. Why? Because it was easy, and arguing against TRA overreach is hard. Because there's money in trans, and lesbians are famously skint. Because trans women are stunning and brave and actual women are a bit passé. She's got the power to turn this oil tanker round but she won't, because of her ego and her cowardice. I'm calling Ruth Hunt out. She should be ashamed of herself. She would have been transed if she was 14 today, she knows that. I would have been, too. She needs to examine her self hatred and own it, and get over it.

theOtherPamAyres · 16/09/2018 18:31

So it's the Trans Advisory Group that is 100 per cent white and 95% male, is it?

It's this inaugural group that represented the most oppressed, marginalised group in society and which requires society to change laws and language to accommodate them? White men?

Thanks for the correction from Miranda Yardley. Somehow, the correction just reinforces my perception of what that photograph depicts.

Ruth Hunt ought to be ashamed of herself.

It is most certainly not an appealing place to work for a lesbian. Every time I see Stonewall banging on about LGBT rights I want to scream.
Twaw not twat, that has given me a laugh.

CrackpotsArePots · 16/09/2018 17:25

Current thread about Stonewall

gendercritter · 16/09/2018 17:22

I am disabled, it doesn't make any bloody difference what I think about it?!

I know! I'm quite tempted to stop considering myself as having a disability from now on. Will crack on with going hiking again from next weekend and might pop out a couple of babies next year now I'll be well enough to look after them.

Dakinis · 16/09/2018 17:16

FYI to the people suggesting Stonewall is erasing gay people, they are in fact trying to recruit more heterosexual staff to make the organisation balanced. That is why the figures published don't mention gay staff - it is a given the majority of staff will be gay.
As you can imagine it is an appealing place to work if you are LGBT.

womanintrousers · 16/09/2018 17:10

What does 'consider themselves to be disabled" mean?
Is that like considering yourself to be a different gender?

I am disabled, it doesn't make any bloody difference what I think about it?!

Stonewall say that to be same SEX attracted is transphobic these days. You must be attracted to 'genders' else you are a bigot. Its ridiculous really.

Have you got a link to them saying that or a reference? because I would dearly love to send it to my gay nephew who has pretty much cut me off for not agreeing with his TWAW stance.

Bolloxio · 16/09/2018 15:58

This is quite eye-opening. I always thought Stonewall was about gay people. They don't seem to be on that page any more, and have moved somewhere else.

They seem to hold a lot of sway over public opinion and government policy (never mind all those Stonewall school awards)

Powerful lobbying groups need some sort of accountability, especially when they are receiving money from the government to do Big Society stuff (as brought in by D Cameron). The secret trustees are Hmm

R0wantrees · 16/09/2018 10:52

from Miranda Yardley's previous FB link there is a comment about the photograph:

"It was actually taken at the first open forum that Ruth Hunt held with UK trans people"

silentcrow · 16/09/2018 08:23

If that's the trans advisory group, aren't most of them supposed to be anonymous?

I thought that group photo was Stonewall staff in general.

Winterlight · 16/09/2018 08:08

That 23% figure can’t be right surely 100% follow a faith; they only employ fervent believers.

(Or should that be fur-vent?)

FingonTheValiant · 16/09/2018 07:51

It's irrelevant that it's the trans advisory group. They're still all white. And for an issue that impacts females massively (4000% increase in girls being referred with GD), females are staggeringly underrepresented. Before you even factor in that an advisory group for issues which put different groups' rights in direct conflict should really include voices from both sides.

GulagMilkMonitor · 16/09/2018 07:51

Wait, why are gay people erased by Stonewall?

iamawoman · 16/09/2018 07:40

The majority of people in that picture are trans either mtf or female to male.

FourAlarmFire · 16/09/2018 07:39

The stats refer to Stonewall staff. The photo is the formation of the trans advisory group. They are two different things. If you want to know about the demographic make-up of either just ask Stonewall. There are ways to phrase the question you want to ask without being rude. And I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the response. Feel like I’m screaming into the abyss here with people not wanting to engage with the truth so may hide this thread now for my sanity!

FingonTheValiant · 16/09/2018 07:23

It's early and I didn't preview, and somehow I missed TWAT. I was thinking in initialisms. Oops...

FingonTheValiant · 16/09/2018 07:20

But that 6% is the people who identify as trans. I'd guess a large number of the people in that photo identify as female, regardless of their biology. And the 6% who identify as trans are the specific "transboi" types. After all, Stonewall's policy is TWAW, not TWAT.

So the percentage of females for Stonewall will include a large number of males, and the percentage of trans will be artificially low. As they're all about self-ID the only way this will become apparent is visually.

Terrifiedandregretful · 16/09/2018 07:18

BAME people are ‘underrepresented’ in trans circles partly because it is a social contagion affecting mainly the white middle classes. I am so relieved to here Stonewall are ‘actively addressing’ this issue...
