Accepting the term 'cis'?

During a debate with a teenage male family member, I was told I had to accept I was a ciswoman, not a woman...whether I liked it or not! I was also told as a ciswoman I had priviages trans mtf could only dream of.

I feel angry. Should I accept this? Or shall I continue standing up for my adult human female rights?!

"I think we need to accept 'cis' while 'trans' is still in use. We'll know we've progressed when we're all known as 'women', as the word "woman" will no longer mean anything, men will have access to everything that was set up to help women and girls, and women will no longer have the language to discuss , raise awareness about and press for change around issues that affect them.

If TW are literally women and TG are literally girls as per GG, swim england prison service etc
Then the words "woman" "girl" have no meaning whatsoever.

Basically, people who are not trans may not be cis because there is no such thing, just a chemistry term co opted by a tiny group of male agitators to bully and intimidate and control women.

disorganisedXX · 15/09/2018 10:11

Women make up over half the population and should not be discriminated against on the grounds of a few men "desiring" to have an alternative part to play in society.

They don't want to be women or feel like women because that is not something a man could ever know or understand (being not a woman). They want to play a part, for whatever reason, the feeling "woman" doesn't exist - it is a male view social construct. What is more it is a wrong view according to women and not the lived experience of an actual real live human female!

Basically, people who are not trans may or may not be cis. The key feature, if discussing trans issues/people is being trans so simply discussing trans people is sufficient.

Eg people who have 6 fingers on each hand are able to use this design of scissors whilst other people can’t.

People who have 6 fingers on each hand are able to use this design of scissors whilst people with five fingers on each hand can’t

Transwomen are men. Men being known as women is not progress for biological women. If you want to accept cis for yourself by all means go ahead. I don't need a prefix to identify who I am and I am not cis. Woman is all that is needed as a description.

One bad case is sad but doesn't have to mean the end of all trans rights

Trans people should have the rights of any other category of people. And in addition, in accordance with the 2010 Equalities Act, those with GRCs or undergoing transition, should not be discriminated against on the grounds of their "gender" reassignment. That is, they shouldn't be refused a job, or accommodation (except in certain sex-segregated spaces designed for women because of the overwhelming violence against women in this society) or goods & services etc etc etc on the grounds of their trans status.

But their rights do not go beyond those of other people.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 15/09/2018 00:55

RosiesYellowDress - that was epic. Smile

PerspicaciaTick · 15/09/2018 00:49

One bad case is sad

I'm don't think that "sad" even begins to cover the horrific catalogue of abuse carried out by Karen White.

And as for the "end of trans rights" - what about women's rights to be safe from sexual assault and rape in prison? We should not accept any change in policy what has a detrimental impact on the rights of women.

Aeroflotgirl · 15/09/2018 00:36

Hate the word, another brainwashed millenial.

AspieAndProud · 15/09/2018 00:06

Are you of the string em up variety? If not, think a minute. One bad case is sad but doesn't have to mean the end of all trans rights.smile

Transwomen have exactly the same rights as other men.

If those rights weren't good enough men, men would do something about it.

Tigger001 · 14/09/2018 23:56

@TheActualLastJedi that's exactly how I feel. Couldn't have put it better

AngryAttackKittens · 14/09/2018 23:55

There's a pretty significant gap between not allowing male humans to undress in the same changing rooms as female humans and hanging them. I know some people act as if hurt feelings mean literal death, but a histrionic personality does not reality make.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 14/09/2018 23:52

No one mentioned executions. But men should never be put in women's prisons. The UN has ruled it's a human rights abuse.

Ereshkigal · 14/09/2018 23:45

How would it be "the end of all trans rights"? Hmm

FermatsTheorem · 14/09/2018 22:51

Failing to see the funny side, Hepzibah, coming hot on the heels of the conviction of "Karen" White for sexual assault of other inmates when this convicted rapist and paedophile still in possession of a penis was placed in a women's prison - a women's prison with a mother and baby unit. Not really finding it in me to have a "whatevs" response to that one.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 14/09/2018 22:36

Transvestites, transsexuals.

AngryAttackKittens · 14/09/2018 22:29

I don't see any reason why we need a collective noun for people who like skirts and makeup more than we need a collective noun for people who are female.

HepzibahHumbug · 14/09/2018 22:26

Trying not to be silly but obv failing. Just think the whole identity politics thing a disaster.
Also, being a woman or a man not that fucking special or important. Who cares? Get up and get on whatevs

UpstartCrow · 14/09/2018 22:24

Women don't have a penis. So no.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 14/09/2018 22:23

Why? Shall we call women who have never married Cis Miss?

AngryAttackKittens · 14/09/2018 22:22

That would be the exact opposite of progress.
