Accepting the term 'cis'?

During a debate with a teenage male family member, I was told I had to accept I was a ciswoman, not a woman...whether I liked it or not! I was also told as a ciswoman I had priviages trans mtf could only dream of.

I feel angry. Should I accept this? Or shall I continue standing up for my adult human female rights?!

We don't need cis to define us from trans that's what trans is for

My view entirely. Was shocked at his insistence i HAD to accept it"whether i loked it or not"!

i'm prepared to tolerate awoman

so i'm not cis or trans as I identify as awoman (biological female who doesn't' believe in gender)

Elephantinacravat · 12/09/2018 19:13

Exactly Infinite.

There are women and transwomen. No need for 'cis'.

InfiniteSheldon · 12/09/2018 19:11

We don't need cis to define us from trans that's what trans is for Confused

Elephantinacravat · 12/09/2018 19:11

because whether you like it or not, trans women ARE women.

No honey.

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2018 19:10

How many fingers am I holding up Winston?

Fuck that shit.

I believe in truth.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/09/2018 19:10

I wouldn't accept it

Cis is just another made up term...in this discussion at least Grin not in a chemistry one

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2018 19:09

@RedToothBrush in what sense is it damaging to society?

Do I have to go into my life history?

It's damaging to women. It tells them they have privilege over anyone trans, when that is often utter bollocks.

It's just a way of telling women to shut up and listen to a man.

It's about creating a hierarchy of privilege based on identity which is a bunch of total arse.

I hope that helps.

Don't stand for it OP, if you don't feel comfortable.

And stop passive aggressive @ing me.

MyBeloved · 12/09/2018 19:08

So, i appear to have posted this twice. Will get mnhq to delete the other one.

I have stood my ground. I, like poster above, feel irrationally angry being termed cis. I am a woman. Not a ciswoman. I do not have to accept the terms of his argument...in fact it makes me eben more determined to stand up for my rights to be the sex and gender i actually am.

And no, not a sock...look me up if you like!

Really? Are there people somewhere drawing out random cards and deciding that this afternoon, we will be revisiting the subject of calling women 'cis', so we can rehearse the goady definitions, grab some screenshots, wind up some newbies and do the whole thing again?

OP, well, clearly you don't have to accept being called anything. You already know this, because you dropped some popular GC phrases in there for emphasis, so you're familiar with the ideas. So, you know, as an adult human female, you can make your own mind up, can't you?

WhereYouLeftIt · 12/09/2018 19:07

Ellen7262 "Cis literally just means 'not trans'"

It absolutely does not! Trans is about not identifying with the gender associated with your sex, so cis would mean identifying with it. Feminine gender stereotypes (since that's all gender is) are about being demure and chaste and dressed in skirts and high heels and being submissive etc. - well, Fuck That Shit, as someone besides myself has undoubtedly said.

If you are not trans, then 'woman' (or 'man') is just fine.

NoProbLlama78 · 12/09/2018 19:06

How does cis mean not trans when a transwoman means not a woman? I can't be a transwoman because I'm already a woman.

Bluecloudyskies · 12/09/2018 19:06

@RedToothBrush in what sense is it damaging to society?

Because we are being forced to lie.

MEN can not be FEMALE
FEMALES can not be MEN.

It’s biologically impossible. So why the fuck are we being told to lie?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/09/2018 19:06

You should have told him not to misgender you.
Say it seriosuly.
If that;s the rules that's the rules.
If you dont' identify as cis he is committing literal violence by saying that is what you are.

I'm not joking.
Funny isn't it that everyone gets to choose who they are except for middle aged people with cunts. They get TOLD who they are and are not allowed to change.

Other point is that trasn relies on there being lots of "cis" people. They've never actually,as far as I know, checked whether
a. most people actually do have a stringly held internal sense of gender ID (as is always claimed) and
b. that it is usually "cis"

Fact is most teens will identify as genderqueer in some way in about 2 years time. There won't be a cis amongst them.

What then?
As long as middle aged women are TOLD they are cis, it keeps the ball rolling?

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 12/09/2018 19:05

How about women's issues and trans women's issues? Bit of a radical concept I know. can't believe I have to explain this to adults

NoProbLlama78 · 12/09/2018 19:05

I don't accept it but Im a cross dresser so I'm included under the trans umbrella as per stonewall guidance.

deepwatersolo · 12/09/2018 19:04

The first commandment of the church of queer is that though shalt accept any self-ID. So, if you do not ID as cis, because you, say, reject the concept of gender, it is literal violence and erasure if someone slaps a label on you that you reject (like cis).

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2018 19:04

This is a teenage boy telling a grown woman to know her place

That's damaging as fuck.

gendercritter · 12/09/2018 19:04

Cis literally just means 'not trans'

No, that's wrong.

Accepting cis as a label means accepting you are comfortable with your gender. Gender is a social construct which grossly harms women. I am not comfortable with the stereotypes surrounding feminity being applied to me. I won't be reduced to 'cis'. I am me, an individual. An adult human female with my own complex personality.

Bluecloudyskies · 12/09/2018 19:03

Cis literally just means 'not trans', because whether you like it or not, trans women ARE women

No they are not Grin

I’m a woman because my DNA says so. I don’t need a new prefix thanks. I’m just woman.

Ellen7262 · 12/09/2018 19:03

@RedToothBrush in what sense is it damaging to society?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/09/2018 19:03

Doesn;t make any sense.
The whole point of ID politics is you choose your own identity, it iis entirely up to you, and no-one should challenge it in any way.

Until women say "I'm not cis" and get told "Yes you fucking well are!!!!" well where's the immutable right of everyone to identify how they choose then, eh?

OvaHere · 12/09/2018 19:02

We have a defining term, it's woman - adult human female. The distinction between woman and transwoman is fairly obvious to anyone. Female people do not need a qualifier.

AssassinatedBeauty · 12/09/2018 19:02

@Ellen7262 women and trans women would do, no need for imposing your descriptors on people who don't identify with them.
