Accepting the term 'cis'?

During a debate with a teenage male family member, I was told I had to accept I was a ciswoman, not a woman...whether I liked it or not! I was also told as a ciswoman I had priviages trans mtf could only dream of.

I feel angry. Should I accept this? Or shall I continue standing up for my adult human female rights?!

Of course, I have no right to know, not being a ciswoman myself (gender is an oppressive hierarchy which I vow to fight)

What are our privileges?

I, too, am interested in knowing what my privileges are, I feel I might have been missing out on something. Is it like having platinum status on an airline? Are there lounges?

No, what am I talking about, of course there aren't lounges for 'cis' women - that would be terribly, terribly transphobic.

Perhaps we just earn double points we can spend on spa days or something.

Ooforfoxsakeridesagain · 12/09/2018 19:32

No you fucking should not accept it.

pombear · 12/09/2018 19:31

I identify as a 'not-taking-that-gender-bullshit' woman.

Loving the 'there are worse things in the world' argument. Look away, women, look away, look into my eyes, not my eyes, but look into my eyes. "Please look away from this issue, it's not really that important, compared to other stuff"

Don't be that 'boiling frog'. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boiling_frog

The water is warming up. We have to jump out before we're boiled and didn't realise it.

FlippinFumin · 12/09/2018 19:30

I am not a cis woman. And neither is Dawn waves to Dawn

It is made up shite and there is no real meed to define women other than as women. And as I am Northern I am allowed to be aggressive and say ‘so you can fuck right off and shove your made up word where the sun don’t shine’

Was there a 'cis man' option? I'm curious as I've never heard that discussed.

hellandhairnets · 12/09/2018 19:29

Oh this makes me so angry. Not you, OP, but this rubbish from your teen. You don't "have to" accept anything.

I don't accept "cis" because if "trans" = anyone gender nonconforming, then "cis" as its supposed opposite = gender conforming. And that's just factually incorrect. It's a belief, nothing more.

I don't especially conform to female gender stereotypes, and I've never, throughout my life, believed I had to or should. I want free range of choice on how I 'present' and think everyone has that right. Yet I am not trans. I am not non-binary. I am not cis. I am a heterosexual human adult female who doesn't remotely believe in gender ideology, or the bullshit supposedly progressive gender essentialist stereotypes it forces onto people.

grasspigeons · 12/09/2018 19:28

is he is a cisman?

is that what he refers to himself as
I'm just curious

ToeToToe · 12/09/2018 19:27

A teenage boy said this to you? Are we talking 13 or 18?

Either way he knows nothing of the world yet despite what he thinks and certainly nothing about being a woman.

These males, honestly. I have two teenage sons - neither would dream of coming out with this crap. They have intelligence and critical thinking skills. "Cis" is a load of bollocks. Literally.

NaturalBornWoman · 12/09/2018 19:24

because whether you like it or not, trans women ARE women

In what sense are they women?

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 12/09/2018 19:22

A friend of mine had to fill out a questionnaire at work with multiple choice boxes to tick on gender with the option of "cis woman", friend had never heard the term before and was baffled by it ,couldn't say whether she was one or not. Why should women be asked to re classify themselves with this stupid prefix that most of the wider population have never heard of. It's not women who are changing the goal posts, but we are the ones who are being asked to make sweeping changes to accommodate an infinitesimal percentage of the population.

RiverTam · 12/09/2018 19:22

Ellen

Define the word woman in a meaningful way (ie non circular and not using the word you’re defining)

If transwomen are women then what are they transing from and to?

Why should anyone be referred to why what they are not?

I think you know exactly what the problem is with the term cis.

Ereshkigal · 12/09/2018 19:20

don't accept it but Im a cross dresser so I'm included under the trans umbrella as per stonewall guidance.

I wear trousers sometimes so guess that probs applies to me too. It's a big umbrella! So sorry, not cis here.

InfiniteSheldon · 12/09/2018 19:20

Women have a double XX chromosome men have XY it's not rocket science transwomen can be glorious wonderful people but they can't magically change to a XX . Our language is our reality.

Smellyoulateralligator · 12/09/2018 19:19

Ellen Confused that is simply not true.

MsBeee · 12/09/2018 19:19

If trans women are women, then how can women be cis, if we are all the same as they insist. this just unravels their argument.

What are our privileges?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/09/2018 19:19

Thing is lots of women aren't cis women.

Loads of women have no "internal strongly held sense of gender ID".
Further, many are GNC (I have seen this fall under the "trans" unbrella)
Lots of women if pressed will say no I do not identify with gender stereotypes (which is all there is left if the concept of internal gender ID is lost on you)

But when women say no I'm not cis they get told yes you are.
Women (cunty) are not allowed a choice in this matter.

That says a lot doesn't it.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/09/2018 19:18

I dont think i quite realised that it was a teenage family member

Id have been all 'i beg your pardon'

Accepting the term 'cis'?
MissSusanSays · 12/09/2018 19:18

Also, how are transwomen more oppressed than me?

Go on, I’m listening.

MissSusanSays · 12/09/2018 19:17

I don’t identity as cis or trans. I identify as an adult human female.

You should respect this.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 12/09/2018 19:16

Note:

Latest moves are to talk about

Women and ciswomen
And also that transwomen are female and have been since (before?) birth.

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2018 19:16

Trans women are women...

... Until they want their own private closed spaces away from anyone who isn't...

... Or they want special status...

... Or they use it for a career as a celeb activist...

... Or any other cynical bull crap.

I'm tired of it.

FloralBunting · 12/09/2018 19:15

MyBeloved, don't be shocked. Misogyny is still terribly popular.

gamerchick · 12/09/2018 19:15

There are worse things happening in the world than you being referred to as a cis woman, which is literally so inoffensive it's laughable you have had to write a post about it

Speak for yourself Hmm

Anyone who cisis me IRL will learn the real meaning of a few things they come out with when they're spouting this crap
