I have no words

It's not the original comment that affects me it's the comments section. I thought female erasure was a metaphor - not literal reality.

To think these campaigners are driving public policy. The comments section is truly terrifying.

If you put a womb into a man, that's not a transplant, it's an implant. It's not replacing one organ with another like it.

Where is the blood supply going to come from? It's not just an organ implant, then: it's a replacement circulatory system.

Then, how do you regulate the menstrual cycle? Okay, let's replace the hypothalamus while we are at it.

So, new womb, new circulatory system, new brain. We are pretty much in Trigger's Broom country now with most of the original human being replaced.

And for what? The ova belong to the womb donor so any kid produces is genetically hers, not the transwoman.

So you'd have to replace the nuclei with those of the host. But that would mean any fertilised egg would carry two sets of paternally imprinted genes.

snugglybeans · 11/09/2018 18:12

When can we expect free NHS womb transplants for 'trans' men to be an official Labour policy? Angry

JillyArmeeen · 11/09/2018 17:38

Yea I was being ironic with the girl comment. I know LM is a man.
Seriously though, he needs some sort of intervention

deepwatersolo · 11/09/2018 17:35

Medical science is being vastly overestimated here.

Exactly. You can take pretty much any small aspect of pregnancy and it will pose huge, possibly insurmountable challenges for scientists to transfer that into the male body to have a chance for a healthy child to develop. Jesus, we often can't even properly metabolically engineer bacteria like E.coli to make them do what we want.

If science should ever get to 'pregnancies in male bodies', it would still be an endeavour where your chances are heavily against a viable, let alone healthy child, with a lot of 'errors'.
I very much doubt that ethicists would ever give the green light for experimental procedures like that particularly in humans. It is not like a heart transplant, where doing nothing would mean death anyway and, therefore, risking death by transplant instead is an acceptable risk in comparison.

Slightly off topic but that's the first time I've seen the terms transmasc and transfemme.

It strikes me that they are more accurate terms than transman/woman as they suggest the person has transitioned to masculinity or femininity, rather than changed sex to man or woman (which most of us don't believe is biologically possible).

Masculinity and femininity have elements of social construction so there will still be arguments about how they are defined but I think it's easier to accept someone wanting to live as the opposite of what they were born as, rather than [not] believing they are actually the opposite sex.

Are the terms transmasc and transfemme commonly used in the trans community? What is their definition?

ShrodingersSturdyPyjamas · 11/09/2018 17:25

Poor girl, someone should help her really. In either case. It's not normal

Girl?

This person with male genitals is 20. And a half. 21 in a few months.

BettyDuMonde · 11/09/2018 17:23

Women’s hearts can’t deal with being transplanted into Male bodies?

There is something sadly poetic there.

SittingAround1 · 11/09/2018 17:22

Medical science is being vastly overestimated here.

How would a man grow the placenta and then connect it to his own circulation ?

OlennasWimple · 11/09/2018 17:19

iamawoman - even with an organ like a kidney that both men and women have, there are markedly different success rates with same sex organ transplants and inter sex organ tranplants (though scientists don't fully understand why, except pesky biology not listening to what we want it to do)

Doyenne · 11/09/2018 17:14

Honestly there is nothing more Lily could say to make me think they are any more deluded so I don't understand why MNers comment on those foolish utterings.

Similarly since Labour have let this farce continue for quite a while now drawing Labours attention to how much women mind that LM is a woman's officer in the hope they would do something has failed. At best Labour don't care what women think at worst they are trolling us leaving LM in place.

JillyArmeeen · 11/09/2018 17:12

littlbrowndog

Could go in their heads cos there space ther3 as brains are missing Grin
That thread is really quite disturbing.
So what's the theory around lily being a troll? You saying she doesn't actually believe this stuff just says it to get attention?
Poor girl, someone should help her really. In either case. It's not normal.

That is awesome!!

Reflect on this peace and Madigan's 'campaign' about period poverty

Bridget Phillipson @bphillipsonMP
Poverty is a state of powerlessness, not only an absence of goods. My piece for @NewStatesman
www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2018/09/holiday-hunger-and-period-poverty-campaigns-risk-forgetting-what-poverty-really?amp&__twitter_impression=true
'Holiday hunger’ and ‘period poverty’ campaigns risk forgetting what poverty really means

But it’s no surprise that Jacob Rees-Mogg finds the proliferation of foodbanks to be “rather uplifting”. By contrast, the chief executive of the Trussell Trust has made plain that she seeks to put her organisation out of business.

And

They have highlighted the cost of sanitary products for women, especially students. But ‘holiday hunger’ and ‘period poverty’ campaigns, rather like the earlier notion of fuel poverty, leave me a little uneasy. Poverty is something that affects people, not specific goods.

That may sound banal, but to me it’s an important distinction. When the transfer of resources from rich to poor is in terms of objects, rather than money, it means that power isn’t being transferred. It’s paternalism and charity: not socialism.

Don't you think its interesting what Lily Has chosen as a little campaign, and the angle Lily chose.

Bridget Phillipson spells out the power dynamic inherent here. And highlights how Lily is more like a Rees-Mogg who wants to be 'uplifted' rather than address structural issues of poverty / women's issues.

Also refer to what Phillipson says about 'deserving causes and undeserving causes' and frame this with the idea that Trans Allies are deserving whilst Terfs are not.

Freedom means nothing if it doesn’t include the freedom to be undeserving, to choose to pay for things other people wouldn’t donate to you.

There's a sense here that Lily needs the poor for validation and to have power over. And isn't in any way wedded to the idea of socialism in practice. It's rich people giving aid to Africa in the form of food rather than tools and education.

Excellent article in its own right, and utterly fascinating applying its points to Lily.

FermatsTheorem · 11/09/2018 16:59

Lily is welcome to harbour whatever delusions Lily wants, so long as Lily's views do not impinge upon my life.

HotRocker · 11/09/2018 16:58

They‘d have better luck shoving a Tesco carrier bag up their arse.

stillathing · 11/09/2018 16:58

Remind me. How does this differ from Donald Trump and Boris Johnson?

I'm still more than 50% convinced Lily was planted by the Conservatives or someone to destabilise Labour when JC looked too exciting. Their actions past and present are indistinguishable from that of an MRA. Actually I want to declare a big thank you to you, Lily Madigan, for helping expose the misogyny that was there all along in the Labour Party. Without you I'd be wearing the Corbyn t-shirt, paying my membership and canvassing. Lily is Lily. I'm sure the misogyny was always there. But before Lily I hadn't paid much attention to the details.

deepwatersolo · 11/09/2018 16:50

Oh the sillyness of it all. Before this happens, it will be possible to grow a child to term in vitro. Controlling the correct hormone levels in a male body alone will a nightmare. That these men would risk all that can go wrong with the developing child in such a fully clinics&technics dependent endavour speaks for itself. (Same goes for whoever wants to do that in vitro).

But credit where credit is due: One comment (by a transperson I suppose) is really funny: 'It also means pro-lifers could have a foetus transplanted into their body instead of aborted. I bet they must be excited at the thought of being able to save so many lives!'

HollowTalk · 11/09/2018 16:49

The ignorance of some of the posters on that thread was gobsmacking.

Recycling this:

Onlyhappywhenitrains1 · 11/09/2018 16:45

I'm pretty sure it takes more than just a fertilised egg in a womb to create a baby.

I actually think it's insulting to women and what we go through to make our babies to say that a man could make a baby if you just stuffed a womb in his abdomen.

You'd have better luck putting a human womb in a sow and growing a human in there.

iamawoman · 11/09/2018 16:44

What's a trans Masc nb - isn't it a oxymoron?
Also again the transcult have forgotten basic biology. A uterus doesn't exist in isolation to the female. It's not like taking out a kidney which both males and females have ...it's awful to say but some of them are really disturbed people

HollowTalk · 11/09/2018 16:41

There's at least one Mumsnetter on that thread:

Replying to @madigan_lily
Maybe with all this scientific advancement they can find a way to cure you of your delusions.

RedToothBrush · 11/09/2018 16:40

We have to ask ourselves, where would Lily be without us?

If there were no nasty “terfs” around, what would be the outcome?

Let’s face it, if we weren’t here, someone somewhere may just ask the pertinent questions.

Like....what have you accomplished on behalf of women since you became a women’s officer Lily?
Where is the money Lily?

We are Lilys beard.

Indeed.

Lily's existence and political importance completely disappears without Evil Terfs to reaffirm Lily's identity as oppressed and marginalised.

If Lily Erases Terfs, Lily becomes irrelevant.

No one would have watch Tom without Jerry. Or Road Runner without Coyote.

The whole good versus evil thing is kind of self limiting as a career option, unless you have a plan B lined up. (Note here Trump has one).

It's hilarious.

Lily needs Terfs to affirm Lily's existence! Lily loves Terfs. They make Lily special.

Don't lose sight of that this BTW. In reality, that's really the response that we should be giving a lot of the time.

Like the attention seeking child.
