This trans journalist had a chance encounter with a supporter of WPUK. Was this one of you lot?

Really thoughtful article - division into two camps without engaging with each other is not the answer.

I think the assumption that CofE people are all homophobic is a bit nuts TBH.

Loads of gay and lesbian vicars and stuff, gay marriage and whathaveyou.

It's the evangelicals and whatnot you want to watch out for.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/09/2018 16:50

CofE is quite tolerant and stuff aren't they?

It's not like that bonkers lot in USA or something.

Not that I know if MIL is CofE but it's a reasonable gues here Grin

jasminemaya · 11/09/2018 16:49

AAA why not pen a response and start the dialogue?

Apologies Rufus, I meant you genteel ladies.

"Dialogue" is an interesting way to describe a situation in which one person lectures and the other listens patiently.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 11/09/2018 16:42

You lot?

How rude

jasminemaya · 11/09/2018 16:38

I would have thought an invitation for dialogue from a trans person rather than #nodebate would be welcomed.

FloralBunting · 11/09/2018 16:30

Oh, riiight. It's time for dialogue, now, is it? Let's get round the table and discuss the 'unintended' negative consequences of bad laws? How very congenial (and late in the day).

AngryAttackKittens · 11/09/2018 16:29

Interesting how the author of the article's very apparent unwillingness to listen to the woman who approached her isn't deemed to have been a problem.

LangCleg · 11/09/2018 16:23

Do we still get deleted for yawning?

Asking for a friend.

jasminemaya · 11/09/2018 16:23

HotRocker I agree with the journalist there should be dialogue rather than it being 'us and them'.

It's very easy to put people in a box and label them as enemies. All of a sudden trans people are 'othered' and GC women are labelled as... you know what the label is.

Both GC women and trans people have a point to make and imo would benefit from listening to each other.

The only responses I've seen to the article have been scornful, no recognition the author has an experience to share and that is just as valid as any woman's experience.

FWIW I think the trans community need to listen and learn too.

Seconding HotRockers excellent question. Not participating in the goady derail anymore.

HotRocker · 11/09/2018 16:14

So OP, the article: the author wants spaces where they can be with people like them, who share their life experiences, and understand what it’s like to live in a body like there’s. This is exactly what women want, what we are fighting to preserve. What are your thoughts about that?

GulagMilkMonitor · 11/09/2018 16:14

they are fairly hard to come by

Perhaps 20 years ago, perhaps in the back of beyond.

FloralBunting · 11/09/2018 16:13

Perfectly possible to support Trans people and be a Christian. Most Christians I know arent big fans of totalitarian bullies, though, so they don't go big on supporting TRAs.

jasminemaya · 11/09/2018 16:11

GulagMilkMonitor how on earth have I been nasty? I am genuinely pleased your MIL the lesbian has found a gay friendly church, they are fairly hard to come by.

OP posts:
GulagMilkMonitor · 11/09/2018 16:09

Jasmine I think you’ve been really quite nasty there. What a shame you and to stoop to such a low level.

FermatsTheorem · 11/09/2018 16:08

Hmm, as for leaving the T out of LGB, well, I gather that in the wake of Riley "your dating preferences are transphobic" Dennis, and the whole cotton ceiling shite, and the fact that apparently users of Grindr now have to sift out a whole load of be-vulva-ed individuals who think that wearing a chest binder means that gay men should be interested in dating them, I get the impression that quite a lot of L and G people would quite like to decouple the LGB bit from the T bit.

UpstartCrow · 11/09/2018 16:07

If we do recognise ourselves (because this totally happened) will you send us to a gulag?

jasminemaya · 11/09/2018 16:04

Nice to know your MIL the lesbian is warmly accepted into her church group, in my experience church groups can be a daunting place to come out.

OP posts:
YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/09/2018 16:02

Yeah. I'm trying to figure out what this has to do with LGB...

VickyEadie · 11/09/2018 16:02

I thought the point of Christianity was compassion and empathy and that should extend to all people including trans people?

Doesn't mean Christians have to agree with everything being demanded though, does it? especially if Christians believe (as many non-Christians do) that some of the things being demanded will detrimentally affect a massive number of other people.

GulagMilkMonitor · 11/09/2018 15:57

I thought the point of Christianity was compassion and empathy and that should extend to all people including trans people?

So why suggest my MIL’s church wouldn’t be the same? My MIL, the lesbian.

GulagMilkMonitor · 11/09/2018 15:56

Big shocker MIL's church group isn't a fan of LGBTs.

Ooh your prejudice is showing.

jasminemaya · 11/09/2018 15:55

FloralBunting

Are you saying it is impossible to be a Christian and support trans people? I noticed your omission of the T from LGB?

I thought the point of Christianity was compassion and empathy and that should extend to all people including trans people?
