Via the excellent Prof. Kathleen Stock:

At the 2018 Connecticut State track & field championships, of the 6 medalists in the men's and women's 100 meters finals, 5 were biologically male.

Some good comments in that Twitter thread:

It's as if someone asked the monkey's paw to find a way to get equal prize money for women's sport
“You have some people who believe men are stronger and faster” ... that’d be those people who’ve noticed that every single men’s record is faster/longer/heavier/higher than every single women’s record I guess.

My school wasn’t particularly sporty, but girls played hockey in the winter.

We had PE lessons every winter, focusing on technique, the different kind of hits, the rules of the game etc. Plus playing full matches. All the while the boys were playing rugby and football on the other side of the field.

One day towards the end of Year 11 the PE teachers must have been having an off day as they decided to amalgamate the two lessons. The boys were simply handed hockey sticks and told to play the girls.

It was carnage. They were taller, faster, stronger and had no prior knowledge of the rules. One boy tackled so fiercely he managed to break the stick. How no one got injured I do not know. Funnily enough that was the last game of hockey I ever played - I hadn’t minded the game, but I never chose it again and dropped sports as soon as I could.

We need a trans woman to break a natal woman's world record, or, better yet, beat a natal man's world record! That will make a few people wake up.

CarolDanvers · 11/09/2018 23:02

This should be in AIBU.

timetodothis · 11/09/2018 22:52

I see someone mentioned Lyndsey Sharpe.
I'd forgotten about her. I remember she was vilified and crucified for daring to speak out about how unfair sport is for women in the current climate.

timetodothis · 11/09/2018 22:50

I also agree with the poster who pointed out that there are high profile people in the sporting world who could speak out but won't. The silence is deafening.
It's beyond shocking.

timetodothis · 11/09/2018 22:49

If this doesn't make people sit up and think, then I don't know what will.

timetodothis · 11/09/2018 22:48

Numerous times.

timetodothis · 11/09/2018 22:48

Ths needs to be bumped.

10% is actually huge! If we end up in a situation with a significant number of males competing as women it is the case that we will no longer see any women qualifying for the major events.

For example, I heard a couple of weeks ago that Lynsey Sharp won an 800 metre race in just under two minutes - I can't remember which competition it was. She's our best female 800 metre runner at the moment, having represented Britain at the Olympics and plenty of other international events. Yet I know a teenage boy who can run faster than her, and he's not even fastest in my region. There are 40 under-17 boys in the UK who have beaten her PB this year. If you were to look at the number of adult men faster than her the number would be huge. That's just an example.

howlsmovingcastle84 · 11/09/2018 22:13

I run 3/4 times a week, all weathers, and consider myself pretty fit and a good runner. My husband does literally zero exercise, 7 days a week. Every so often as part of his RAF reserve (non-physical!) role he has to take a fitness test. This test is proceeded by 'crap-I need to do some exercise'. He'll join me on my runs sometimes and can honestly flaw me in terms of speed! It's very frustrating and that's just a friendly run around the park with the DH. I can't imagine losing out in a competitive event.

AdultHumanFemale · 11/09/2018 22:02

Jeez. I wonder whether the people who minimise the capacity of a male body to out perform women in many sports have ever done any sports themselves? I remember the year when my previously all female primary school welcomed a couple of male members of staff. Weedy little men, yet they completely smashed the Teachers' 100m race on Sports Day (which had, to that point, usually been won by yours truly). I recall coming out of the blocks next to my male colleague, and seeing his ass speed ahead as I tried to keep up, thinking "Wtf!?" I have played lots of friendly sports with men, jogged with men etc, but hadn't quite appreciated the difference that is so apparent in competitive contexts.

Yes do Trinity1976 it really highlights the destruction done in the name of so called inclusion and so called equality.

Refusing to recognise difference, results in discrimination and decimation of women's sport.

Trinity1976 · 11/09/2018 20:52

When I complete the consultation I'm going to concentrate on this area quite a bit, because I'm a distance runner. I was working out the difference in the world records for some of events I do the other day and it is around 10% as people have said. There is no possible way we can up our game by 10% to compete with men. It will make an absolute mockery of womens' sport. What incentive is there for young girls and women going into sport? They'll never get anywhere as men will get all the bloody medals in both the mens' and womens' events!

MsBeee · 11/09/2018 20:50

I think I'm in some kind of denial, even tho I see this happening, I still just don't really believe this can be happening.

Can this really be happening?? how can this be happening?

JellySlice · 11/09/2018 19:57

The only people feeling oppressed are the males running as women. They are also the only people in this story who are not actually being oppressed in any way.

Those transwomen are being given the privilege of competing against a weaker class of competitor. Calling themselves women does not make them women. Here's a little bit of news for you: transwomen are not women. Transwomen are men.

MsBeee · 11/09/2018 19:28

Well done Andrea, really well done, no really,

Those girl should just all identify on the day info some other , fuck wittery gender and demand their own race. Cos their feelzin oppressed by "women". well trans women are women. respect.

thisismyhair · 11/09/2018 19:22

Right this thread has done it - I've finally written to my MP.

I've been talking about doing it for ages. Whether it will have any effect I don't know, but I've got to try something.

The world has truly gone mad.

VickyEadie · 11/09/2018 16:23

Men and boys should be allowed to be whatever they want, should have whatever they want. Women and girls are irrelevant and those who say no to men and boys on this are scum and need to shut the fuck up possibly with a fist to the face.

Good summary.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/09/2018 16:20

And what men are, can be, should be.

Men and boys should be allowed to be whatever they want, should have whatever they want.
Women and girls are irrelevant and those who say no to men and boys on this are scum and need to shut the fuck up possibly with a fist to the face.

This is not an exaggeration.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/09/2018 16:19

Because women and girls aren't real full people.

Women and girls are whatever men say they are.

If a man says men and boys can be women and girls then it is so.

There is no such thing as material reality for women and girls outside of what men decide exists.

Is the bottom line.

Other charatceristics - disability, age etc - generally people kick back when other say they identify into these groups - although transage and transabled are a thing. But. It's only transwoman that people have no issue with. Because of deeply held global societal level ideas about what women and girls are, can be, should be.

Lottapianos · 11/09/2018 15:26

'So if I “identify” as disabled can I compete in the Paralympics against people with no legs, and then claim that I am the cream that rises to the top? No? '

Very good point. This is just outrageous and totally disgusting. Cheating, lying and gaslighting on a grand scale.

Babdoc · 11/09/2018 15:16

So if I “identify” as disabled can I compete in the Paralympics against people with no legs, and then claim that I am the cream that rises to the top? No? Why is it ok for trans athletes in women’s events then?
