At the Women's Equality Party Conference, a born male is thrilled to tell you that:-

Pleased to report that @SophieRunning* & I have won the first big vote of the day. We will not be railroaded into taking a vote on whether trans women are women. We will have discussions on trans issues respectfully, and with trans members involved. We will have discussions on trans issues respectfully, and with trans members involved*

Unless these issues are about transmen, why does the Women's Equality Party Conference have to discuss trans issues?

Trans people had a conference this weekend.

No women that I'm aware of rocked up to demand women's issues were discussed.

Is there no place that women are allowed to discuss women's issues without having to consider trans issues?

Is there no place where women are allowed to gather without a trans perspective?

There's something very, very odd about Cheryl's written 'voice'. Can't put my finger on it, it's like she's offering to cut you a lovely slice of Victoria sponge but still somehow emphasizing the knife.

jerpe · 11/09/2018 19:29

The students on the radio show were Francesca Gluscevic and Sage Brice. FG proposed the Bristol Uni 'ban t*s' motion which passed. Was just looking again at that WEP blog - the razorblades ffs! And 'getting paid to train clueless c** people'... Morgan gives training to organsations including the police - so the police are paying for training from someone who spreads malicious hoaxes which waste police time - see BTP statement - how does that work...?!

I get the point about committees, but surely as a party member you can start making noise at least, whereas at the moment i feel utterly powerless and i am worried about the world that awaits my daughter. No mother wants their daughter to have to struggle more than they did against misogyny.

theOtherPamAyres · 11/09/2018 17:34

Just like the Green Party, (with little money, a heavy reliance on volunteers, and the promotion of the willing rather than the competent) the WEP is the perfect vehicle for trans rights.

It doesn't take long to climb to a position in a small party. You get to run a local party (Challoners in Coventry), or you're a special interest group with constitutional rights to be consulted (Green Party LBGTQWRT+++), or you can be a national celebrity (A Challenor, standing for Deputy leadership of the Green party while having no interest in Environmental matters).

That's why you see trans Cherry Morgan exhorting fellows to join WEP. Sorry lads, but we've noticed that you never talk about women and haven't the faintest idea about our concerns.

We've been here before with Jess and Aimee and Lily and... and...etc.

Manderleyagain · 11/09/2018 17:31

Jerpe. Sorry what was the student radio thing I haven't heard that one. and who were the jam jar thugs? Was that the masked people in the stairwell incident?

arranfan · 11/09/2018 17:03

that's all the TRAs have done when you think about it, they've joined WEP and taken it over.

Without procedural justice and clear organisational governance, policy is made by committees that are not open to challenge and revision after they've put forward a decision.

So, if one or more committees are stacked with people with a conflict of interest, that will be put forward as policy.

bzzbeebzz · 11/09/2018 16:59

I mean, that's all the TRAs have done when you think about it, they've joined WEP and taken it over.

bzzbeebzz · 11/09/2018 16:58

I've been thinking, if WEP is a democratic party, and Sophie keeps banging on about it being one, would we be able to drive their policy towards protecting women and girls by actually joining. No other party has come close to Sophie's attempt to say what she really thinks.

theOtherPamAyres · 11/09/2018 14:28

I don't know how much longer Sophie's going to be able to sit on the fence

The agreement with a trans identifying male to sabotage the 'Trans Women aren't women' amendment, demonstrates that the WEP is not the party to promote women's interests, for me.

MaybeDoctor · 11/09/2018 13:50

I was so excited when the WEP came along.

That lasted about 5 minutes!

SirVixofVixHall · 11/09/2018 13:42

“Some biological differences” ffs.

BabySharkDoododoo · 11/09/2018 13:40

foxstar, do you disagree with sex segregation? In less important places such as loos, right up to very important places like prisons and refuges? Do you want the word woman to actually mean something, rather than being widened to include male people so that woman is now another way of saying 'person'. Do you acknowledge that female people are oppressed because of their biology?

And finally, in what way are transwomen 'just like us'? I do however, agree that they are human. Obviously Hmm

deepwatersolo · 11/09/2018 12:54

Because, well, women always seem to end up capitulating to men, don't they.

I hear you and feel the same. But: If that was the whole truth, women would never have gained voting rights and, generally, the full rights men have. Smiling and carrying on, not giving ground, may be the best strategy. Smile

foxstar1985 · 11/09/2018 12:37

it doesnt matter wat they are they are human and people like u shouldnt be like that when they are just like use and they have there promlems to so u cant say that

foxstar1985 · 11/09/2018 12:30

why are people so condesending in people when they have a sex change

ToeToToe · 11/09/2018 12:10

I don't know how much longer Sophie's going to be able to sit on the fence.

I'm pleased she gave that speech - and opened up the debate - but there really is very little middle ground here. At some point she's going to have to pick a side. You either fall in with the trans ideology that gender identity is everything, TWaW, and biological sex unimportant/fluid or whatever - or you are gender critical and believe women are oppressed due to their biological reality/reproductive role. You cannot believe both.

There's been a massive turn of the tide over the past few weeks, but I still fear that biological women are going to be thrown under the bus in favour of trans-ideology. Because, well, women always seem to end up capitulating to men, don't they.

Shame the WEP didn't come out with a strong line on this right at the beginning - it could have made a real difference.

theOtherPamAyres · 11/09/2018 12:07

Sophie came up with the idea that ... Instead of debating the motion, we would simply have a discussion around the issue, with no vote. Unfortunately Sophie chose to call this a “Special Debate”, which lead some trans people to assume that she was calling for a debate on whether trans women are women. In fact she was doing just the opposite: saving us from voting on an amendment that would have been taken as decision on whether trans women are women.

Cheryl Morgan's blog post on what went down at the WEP confereence tells me all I need to know

deepwatersolo · 11/09/2018 11:37

Morgan actively tried to shut down the Women's Place and We Need To Talk (Jam Jar) meetings in Bristol and and had the Bristol Uni students who passed a 'ban t*s' motion on their 'women's' radio show.

Wow, that's some change in tone then, eh?

jerpe · 11/09/2018 11:12

It's interesting to see those who for years have been vigorously shouting 'no debate' and 'word that is banned from mumsnet' at women now saying how much they'd love a debate if only it was 'nice'. It's nonsense of course but interesting that they've been forced to move and the 'no debate' bully boy stuff doesn't work any more. Morgan actively tried to shut down the Women's Place and We Need To Talk (Jam Jar) meetings in Bristol and and had the Bristol Uni students who passed a 'ban t*s' motion on their 'women's' radio show. A good starting point for Morgan would be to condemn the Jam Jar thugs... breath not held.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 11/09/2018 09:36

Wow. Sophie's speech and the reaction to it has made crystal clear to me - if I had any lingering doubt - that the trans POV allows absolutely no compromise, no middle ground, nothing but 100% obedience and the abandonment of any best interests of biological women as a group.

Thinking people please take note.

Ereshkigal · 11/09/2018 09:23

So much is obfuscatory and contradictory.

Ereshkigal · 11/09/2018 09:21

They think that includes them though, Jacky. To be fair the GRA has weakened this.

JackyHolyoake · 11/09/2018 08:56

The Equality Act 2010 provides the legal definition of woman in Section 212 [scroll down the alphabetic list]:

"woman = a female of any age
