I think she's thoroughly great already, and she has just published this on "Gay Rights and Trans Rights – A Compare and Contrast"

Subtitle So, Momentum made a video huh?

Enjoy

It is very important that workplace “training” be the vector for disseminating transcult nonsense to adults. Because work is the place where you have no right to free speech.

DH and I were talking about this last night.

And I know in several threads here we've been talking about the government effectively outsourcing censorship and social control to private companies. The obvious example is social media with FB and Twitter imposing their selectively draconian Terms of Service and definitions of offensive ideas and speech.

But, yes - the legislative body's work is done for them if we are conditioned out of free speech and even conscience by our workplaces.

Spot on, BlackForestCake

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 09/12/2018 07:05

I am sorry to his missed the author's popping in to say hi. If you're about, Lady, kudos for the excellent summary of the issues.

It would be great if you stayed around and posted more.

I think a couple of people here have talked about diversity training they've had at work given by MTF trans people and they said the MTF person said that they actually had to believe it as they could tell if they were lying and that's invalidating.

arranbubonicplague · 08/12/2018 23:00

I wonder if this is a particularly interesting example of ontological totalitarianism in the screenshot here:

There are disrespectful thoughts, even in the thoughts we keep to ourselves...
Misgendering a trans person, even in the secrecy of our own mind, not telling anyone, and gendering them correctly in all overt behaviour, the misgendering that happens in our mind is still disrespectful.

It does remind me of many sermons on the topics of being Pharisees etc. and the settled religious principle that one should always feel sinful and guilty.

Mumfun · 08/12/2018 22:31

wow

Ereshkigal · 08/12/2018 22:20

Oh that's brilliant.

arranbubonicplague · 08/12/2018 20:16

Quite the barnstormer on Ontological Totalitarianism by Numbers broken down into 30 bullet points.

21. People refusing to validate your identity may be painful.
22. Something being painful is not conceptually identical to it being a moral harm, structural violence, or an act of oppression.
23. Not getting our needs met is sometimes painful.
24. Sometimes our needs don’t get met because other people also have needs, beliefs, and interests.
25. Thinking you must always have you needs met and refusing to understand why other people may not meet your needs, is narcissistic entitlement.

Adding in this very useful JCJ Twitter thread (one of the spin-offs of Shariatmadari ill-informed deconstruction of Janice Turner's recent column):

LadyPrincesexual · 18/10/2018 19:33

Yes, I luff it too :) And no, it's not all that good. There is SO MUCH of the live work (we have rehearsals and shows and soundchecks and jams and demos, it's endless, the dude basically played 10 hours a day for his whole life), and some of it is mediocre, and some of it is frankly terrible, but an awful lot of it is that good, and a lot of it is better than that.

Here's my mixcloud: www.mixcloud.com/JustEnoughToTurnUOn/

There's a mix of some of the other piano work there... and I also particularly like the watermix, which is all versions of one song over the whole of his career, and really shows his stylistic range...

:)

Anlaf · 18/10/2018 19:24

I'm not sure if mumsnet lets me post gifs of Prince looking slightly embarrassed

yeah that's fine you're only allowed 30 a day tho

(actually I do have a question - do you like the Prince 1983 microphone piano album that spotify keeps playing? I luffs it. Is all prince this good) o no two questions

Hey all, this is really lovely of you - and it really means a great deal to me, thank you.

I'm not sure what to do now as I'm not sure if mumsnet lets me post gifs of Prince looking slightly embarrassed...

In endless solidarity xx

OMFG!!!!!! Jane is here!!!

I've come over all embarrassingly fangirl but I have to say that your blog and the episode of The Reality Report linked to here are so brilliant at explaining "difficult" concepts like queer theory & PoMo - so clear (unlike Judy!) and utterly fascinating.

Admire your work on Twitter too.......

NowtSalamander · 18/10/2018 14:58

Gosh. Jane herself! No one else has ever been able to explain post modern thought to me. I bow down.

heresyandwitchcraft · 18/10/2018 13:38

Hi Jane! [waves]
Love your style and your work!
Thanks for being one of the coolest gender-critical voices on Twitter.

arranfan · 18/10/2018 12:10

LadyPrincesexual - it's so good to see you here. I was a little concerned when I noticed that your Twitter account is now protected and hoped that you hadn't had to do this because you were being overwhelmed by people protesting loudly at you there!

You are mentioned in so many places here and your writing is educational and widely shared.

Thank you.

thatdamnwoman · 18/10/2018 12:01

Another fan here. Thank you for speaking out. And thank you for explaining Judith Butler to me!

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 18/10/2018 11:53

Hello Jane! Welcome to Mumsnet.

We actually met at WPUK in Brighton and had a drink in the pub afterwards- total fangirl here.

LangCleg · 18/10/2018 11:52

Jane! Welcome! You are fab! Please continue writing with such clarity and bringing philosophy to a wider audience of women.

Signed

Fangirl Lang

Dearest Awesome Women of Mumsnet,

It's me, Jane. I just wanted to say hi, and thank you for this, and to tell you my mum and dad found it yesterday and phoned me because they were so excited I had my own thread on mumsnet!

And I also wanted to give respect to you for all the incredible incredible work you have done over here. It has made so much difference.

xxxx

Ereshkigal · 13/10/2018 11:45

Thanks Arran, much appreciated.
