The Times reporting on the smear campaign against academics run by 'Natacha Kennedy' of Goldsmiths. Given how movingly women academics have written here about the fear and intimidation they experience working in universities, how good to see the source of the bullying exposed. share token:

And a brilliant article by Janice Turner about dangerous trans rapists in women's jails:

So pleased that I took out a subscription to the Times.

Hurrah for Janice, Lucy and The Times!

Hurrah for James Kirkup, Andrew Gilligan and Joani Walsh!

Hurrah for BBC Radio 4 presenter Carolyn Quinn, who yesterday actually stated that the transwoman in the prison row still had a penis!

Just a few months ago all this would have been unthinkable. Every day, more and more is being revealed in mainstream media about the dark, misogynic transcult.

Every day, more and more people are seeing that the emperor is stark bollock naked.

The wheels are coming off the bus and it is careering down the hill, out of control. The occupants are going to redouble their efforts, though and it's going to be a very bumpy ride before it finally crashes.

An expose of the interlinking of the individuals in the driving seat is needed now. I do hope someone is working on it.

FloralBunting · 08/09/2018 11:14

That video of Natacha is interesting. I didn't get all the way through it, but I did notice the critique that as the modern west has become more 'material' and less 'spiritual', trans people have had a harder time than they do in other cultures that are still 'spiritual' like native Americans etc.

Which really does feed into my increasing conviction that TRAism is a sort of parasite neo-religion, which is why do many of it's adherents are impervious to rational argument. It's feeding on the religious impulse in human nature which bypasses the part of the brain that accepts simple facts and allows for the acceptance of wildly outlandish, even contradictory things.

MsBeaujangles · 08/09/2018 11:11

Trans children can be and are interviewed for research purposes. There are ethical issues to address but research is undertaken.

There are merits in exploring the school experiences of young people currently in school and of adults looking back at past experiences. Useful knowledge can be generated from both.

There are pros and cons of researching subjects that you are involved in and removed from. Both are liable to bias, it is how the bias is managed that is key.

Behind the hyperbole, research is taking place and balanced people are getting ethical approval to explore all manner of things trans related.

I don’t even think that researchers are having to fly under the radar. It is unusual to get any mainstream attention for published research, let alone attention for research currently being undertaken.

I have no doubt that researchers exploring trans related issues could garner much attention from their research at any stage of its undertaking, but no serious researchers would want the kind of attention it would attract!

It's quite electrifying to see these in the Times this morning.

Brava to Lucy and Janice.

MsBeaujangles · 08/09/2018 11:00

It does sound puzzling in that case!

If PC said to a random person, in a lift at Goldsmiths, ‘are you a service user’, they wouldn’t have a clue what she was talking about!

My guess would be they were talking about GIDS at the Tavi at the time. However, assuming the other person wasn’t a child or adolescent, PC would be referring to bring a user of The Tavistock’s other services?

Starkstaring · 08/09/2018 10:57

The article about the paper that "he and she" wrote says that he/she couldn't interview GNC/trans children for ethical reasons, so interviewed adult transgender people about their childhood. No reason to think there might be some sort of confirmation bias there then.... And this "peer reviewed" study fails to notice that one person is presenting themselves as two.

But when Lisa Littmann publishes a peer-reviewed study based on interviews with parents about their GNC/trans children for her study, her university and the publisher immediately take fright and she is likened to recruiting views about black people from a white supremacists website???

VickyEadie · 08/09/2018 10:48

I'm puzzled by this lift interaction at Goldsmiths. How did Jen know this person was from the Tavi and why would PC then assume a random person they met in a lift would know who they were, where they were from and what "service" they ran to ask them if they were a service user?

In fairness to Polly Carmichael, it is very difficult to distinguish between staff and patients at The Tavistock. Although it is a working hospital, the distinction isn't clear between students, patients and staff, other than when they are clearly children. Staff are explicitly told not to make assumptions.

Sorry to have been misleading, btw!

Lift at Goldsmiths, not at GIDS.

deepwatersolo · 08/09/2018 10:43

So, given that Natacha Kennedy / Mark Hellen used both, a a man's and a woman's identity, would I break Mumsnet-guidelines for using the pronouns he/him/his? (Not going to take any chances).

And how does Natacha/Mark's womanhood compare to Lucy/David's Challenor's womanhood (minor the criminal offence, of course), given that both identified as part-time female?

I could weep for the young people in those Kennedy secret groups.

Just how far from the path of decent behaviour have you strayed when you're plotting to accuse academics of hate crime. Putting aside the reality that hate crimes have to be the add-on charge to a crime - grief knows if they'd thought through that they'd have to lie about a crime as well - what sense of morality or appropriateness do these young people have?

Is this what they think university is? Playing with people's lives and careers as if they're sub-plots on House of Cards ?

If Polly had assumed she was a service user, that would be one thing, but she asked, considering it a possibility. I assume she asked because it would have relevance for the following discussion. I see nothing wrong with this

FlippinFumin · 08/09/2018 10:18

I wonder what would happen at Goldsmith's if a student wrote a gender critical paper? Would they be disiplined

I would not have passed my degree there, my whole dissertation was gender critical.

It is a serious question though, what about feminism? What about questioning the idea of patriarchy, surely this would be taught and criticised not only in feminism but in politics and the social sciences? Has the whole of the university gone mad? What on earth do they teach? Or is it only gender studies and you have to agree that anyone is a woman if they say they are and you are given a first?

LangCleg · 08/09/2018 10:01

Jen Isaacson has a chapter in the book Transgender Children and Young People in which she describes experiences as a GNC undergraduate at Goldsmiths. A couple of quotes:

During my undergraduate degree at the Media & Communications department at Goldsmiths University, I was repeatedly understood to be transgender. This would, at times, take the form of curiosity: "Are you a boy?" "No? A b.o.i,?" "No, I mean are you a boy or a girl?" These are invasive questions that occur regularly to androgynous individuals. Other times it would be mocking comments: "Oh, that ladies bag really suits you. Don't you think you're bad at being a trans guy with that?"

In 2016, I shared a lift with Polly Carmichael, head of Tavistock GIC. Looking at me, she asked "Are you a service user?" Short hair and an attire from Top Man somehow now indicates not a COMFORT with gender non-conformity but a necessary discomfort and conflict and a wish to transition.

Jen also has this to say about another Goldsmiths staff member this morning. Er... hmmm.

CAAKE

Yes I read that. The role-playing part struck a chord.

But I can't help thinking it was something more significant. I've taken to screenshotting things I think l'll forget now!

I'm having a problem with the link.

It worked before. This works now (for me, at least):

Young and mischievous I googled
Don’t know I& that is correct thouhj

MsBeaujangles · 08/09/2018 09:41

I'm having a problem with the link. It takes me to a page saying the article was available for a limited time and suggests it was published on 23 March 2017.

Any clues what is going on?

Datun · 08/09/2018 09:37

*I'm convinced this name was chosen as a nod to a fetish. 'The Natachas' (or Natashas) is a term used to describe victims of sex trafficking.

See, this is the hiding in plain sight that goes on. The arrogance is breathtaking.

Paris Lees - Paris Sleaze
Ana Lee - Anally
Shon Faye and Jane Fae - apparently fae has some hidden, underground meaning that I can't remember.

Biologifemini · 08/09/2018 09:36

Stuff like this doesn’t do a university’s reputation much good.

Of course the vice chancellor cannot do anything without being labelled transphobic so Mark/Natacha will likely have a job for life. Happy days.

deepwatersolo · 08/09/2018 09:24

Or Northern...

Right, I forgot about that possibility. Northern. Or autistic. Yeh, who knows, they might be women after all...
