The Times reporting on the smear campaign against academics run by 'Natacha Kennedy' of Goldsmiths. Given how movingly women academics have written here about the fear and intimidation they experience working in universities, how good to see the source of the bullying exposed. share token:

And a brilliant article by Janice Turner about dangerous trans rapists in women's jails:

So pleased that I took out a subscription to the Times.

There is a physical world and a social world. Constructs/ notions relating to sex and sexual reproduction represent human sense making physical realities. Constructs relating to gender represent social constructions.

Notions around gravity relate to human sense making of a physical phenomenon.

Until there is compelling evidence, or even evidence, to providing alternative explanations for ‘gravity’ and ‘sexual dimorphism’ etc. , these explanations will reign.

Outside of Twitter and some select social media forums, the world recognises there are 2 sexes, easily distinguished in all disguises!

R0wantrees · 10/09/2018 09:56

I think you’re probably right. What a truly stunning and brave advert for that university, it needs saving for next years clearing threads.

Michael Biggs
Associate Professor in Sociology and Fellow of St Cross College article MAy 2018:

users.ox.ac.uk/~sfos0060/FreeSpeechOxford.pdf

"A meeting was held on 25 April 2018 to discuss proposed changes to the law on gender recognition. The proposed legislation will eliminate sex-segregated spaces and activities, from women’s refuges to competitive sports. In a democracy, people have the right to meet to discuss—and indeed oppose—legislative changes. This should be incontrovertible. I am appalled that a small number of students at Oxford used extreme measures to stop this meeting from being held....
(concludes)
I have entered this debate not because I am a feminist but because freedom of speech is one of the highest values of a democratic society, and the basic foundation of university life.
Transgender activism poses a grave threat to freedom of speech. I think of the young MPhil student who had to disguise herself to attend this meeting because she feared the reaction of fellow students. This is the generation that we have educated."

Fascist, obvs Grin But I’ll bet you’re a facist, too.

hipsterfun · 10/09/2018 09:54

Clouds are also a social construct, you floating facist.

LangCleg · 10/09/2018 09:49

I've decided to redefine gravity as a social construct. This is why I'm currently floating above my house among the clouds. It's quite nice up here. If only you Luddites would understand how self-limiting you all are.

deepwatersolo · 10/09/2018 09:23

Ereshkigal The bottom line is: if sex is a social construct, everything that humans have ever verbalized in order to make sense of the world is. Everything. They want to do away with all that?

Ereshkigal · 10/09/2018 09:00

Sex as a social construct......

Is pure sophistry.

Mrbatmun · 10/09/2018 08:53

Sex is, shock horror, as much of a social construct as gender."

Tell that to all the women who are dead because they found themselves pregnant with a foetus they did not want and couldn't access a safe abortion.

Tell that to all the women who are dead because they died in childbirth. Or to the women who have lifelong injuries as a result of giving birth.

Tell them that sex is a social construct and they could have identified their way out of their fate.

Sex as a social construct...... Seriously, these people are so fucking clueless I don't even know where to begin.

Igneococcus · 10/09/2018 08:47

'Sex is a social construct’

How does that work in other species, say cows? It would solve quite a few farming issues if cows or sheep could just be made to identify into the required sex.

deepwatersolo · 10/09/2018 08:28

'Sex is a social construct’

Those people have clearly never brought the material result of said alleged social construct to kindergarten , 7 am in the morning.

ChattyLion · 10/09/2018 07:46

‘Sex is a social construct’? Confused
What, they genuinely think someone just made up the concept of men and women being different? Hmm

Has anyone ever told them how babies are made? Told them how girls experience sexual harassment before they’ve even got through puberty? How women have different and often unmet physical needs around child birth, periods and menopause? How women are killed by their male partners (every week in the UK)?

Those just a few of the sex-based problems which girls and women bear the burden of.

Only a very over-privileged, sheltered, unempathetic and craven man-pleaser would ever try to claim that physical sex is made up.

Look around the world for one second and you can see what deliberate and staggering misogyny is behind anyone making that claim.

SophoclesTheFox · 10/09/2018 07:31

There's a tweet on there urging people to "purge their timelines".

Jesus christ on a bendy bus, these people have no idea how authoritarian they are. Purging, FFS! Stalin would be proud.

"apologise your bastardation of science"? Confused Apologise to science? Apologise for understanding it?

IAmLurkacus · 10/09/2018 07:28

Just showing themselves up as being thick as planks.

I think you’re probably right. What a truly stunning and brave advert for that university, it needs saving for next years clearing threads.

IAmLurkacus · 10/09/2018 07:25

Do they actually believe the shite they’re typing or are they posh boys having a laugh?

Sigh

What sort of action will the Green Party take against their former Executive and trans identifying male, Sahrar Taylor? S/He was the Coordinator of Equality and Diversity, and high profile LBGTQWERT. Key part of A Challoner's mob.

In the times piece, Taylor is defiant - the academics were all "douchebags" who would harm students.

Totally. Off. His. Rocker.

Green Party? Your call.

Is that screenshot where they talk about taking over the feminism entry on Wikipedia on here?

this was posted on Twitter (I don't know the source)

R0wan thank you for posting that statement- I am sorry to hear that the group has had its resources diverted in this self centred way by transactivists.
This really resonates:

the trans lobby is a gentrification of working class social and political movements. Note the difference between trans lobby and trans people.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/09/2018 18:09

Is that screenshot where they talk about taking over the feminism entry on Wikipedia on here? 'Natacha' and 'Heather' Peto and others? Discussing their tactics to delete feminists they disapprove of and replace with tranwomen? Absolutely shocking. Totally blatant erasure of biological women. Fucking hell! I thought I was unshockable now but it turns out I am not.

deepwatersolo · 09/09/2018 14:00

The people we encountered were far from marginalised. In fact they were highly educated, openly classist and aggressive.

As I said in another thread (channelling Lisa Muggeridge). This is a class issue. That is why the political elite, far removed from the working class, is so firmly in the corner of Fae, Bergdorf & Co, and ignore women in prison, in shelters... except to call them bigots or liars.
Lisa Muggeridge is right on the money.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/09/2018 13:01

Surely Natacha will have to face some sort of disciplinary action over this?
