To be fair I have seen people say this about trans women. Thoughts?

*and no I'm not a trans troll stalking in disguise. Although that is what a trans troll stalking in disguise would say ......

Does this person have a point about trans women in loos?

CHX used to refuse to treat a trans woman unless they turned up in a skirt or dress.

Following that logic - I've been wearing jeans all week, clearly I'm a bloke. I shall henceforth change my name to Steve and start leg spreading on public transport to accommodate my enormous imaginary testicles.

But being serious, this suggests even medical professionals are enforcing a stereotype of women, which is worrying.

BarrackerBarmer · 08/09/2018 12:05

I'm not ok with men in women's spaces. Surgery makes no difference to me.
I've never accepted this view as reasonable.
It panders to the idea that all women are
merely slightly modified men, Adam without a rib, or in this case his willy.

Losing his penis doesnt make a man somehow more like me. Nor does adding silicone implants, or creating a hole surgically. What have those male body modifications to do with actual women? How am I supposed to be 'more like' a man who does this than a man who doesn't?
Chop the legs off a sheep and it doesn't become a cloud.

I'm not a dickless man.

Exactly, joggers, jeggings and jeans With t shirts are my staple clothes.

Trousers with a blouse at work, skirt or dress only if I’m trying to impress.

Juells · 08/09/2018 09:42

I can't remember the last time I wore a fucking skirt or dress.

😛 I win then, as I can remember. It was two years ago at a 'do'. I felt very uncomfortable. I don't do woman very well. 😁

Like many of us on here, I can't remember the last time I wore a fucking skirt or dress.

Bronners78 · 08/09/2018 09:30

You have to remember these protocols were written by the same people who insisted you ‘dresses approximately’ for all appointments.

There is no way to live as a woman, beyond the things that stem from biology that we can’t change.

Exactly.

HotRocker · 08/09/2018 09:13

I’m just trying to think of things I do to live as a woman. I’m struggling. I’ve never worn make-up, I never ever wear dresses or skirts, my hair is buzzed, Will I get my birth certificate revoked?

VickyEadie · 08/09/2018 08:56

Come on everyone - "living as a woman" is absolute bollocks!

I have a mate called Kim who never wears skirts or dresses or make-up.

Is Kim a man or a woman?

JellySlice · 08/09/2018 08:43

So a disabled woman who never uses the women's facilities because she always uses the disabled toilets and the disabled changing rooms is not 'living as a woman'?

Hmm

Disingenuous bollocks.

Juells · 08/09/2018 07:38

scotsheather

Then surely the 'requirement' to use womens spaces for that period is wrong? Awkward for the person going through it as well as women.

There is no requirement to force your way into women's spaces. Wanting to do it isn't the same as a requirement. Wear jeans and use the gents.

Thank you ALittleBitofVitriol. What an excellent post. Just perfect Flowers.

thebewilderness · 07/09/2018 23:53

TRAs have been saying this for years: Let's face it. Women's loos are not the real problem. Women have been accepting transwomen in loos for years - they generally try to blend in or "pass"

Women having access to single sex loos made it possible for us to participate in the public sphere and the UN is encouraging single sex loos in emerging countries so that women can participate in the public sphere.

Women ran out of the loo and called the manager or the police when they saw males dressed as women enter. The women also stood guard at the door and warned other women not to go in.
This cool story about how women never minded before, so why do you mind now, is a zombie lie.

Thanks! Copy at will. It's just cobbled together thoughts from greater women than I.

littlbrowndog · 07/09/2018 23:47

Nice. Vitriol so so nice great post

ToeToToe · 07/09/2018 23:46

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 07/09/2018 23:38

Yes! ALittleBitofVitriol This, all of it!

speakingwoman · 07/09/2018 23:26

Also struck by this:

“Do men think all women are their loving Mummies?

Yes. And when mummy doesn't do what they want, we are the repository for everything.... Hate, disappointment in oneself, rage, uninvited dick, you name it.”

LagerthaTheShieldMaiden · 07/09/2018 23:25

Xpost Certain. I'll have a look, thank you

LagerthaTheShieldMaiden · 07/09/2018 23:24

I keep thinking, it's ok for me, I'm 38 and I'm becoming invisible as I choose Ben and Jerry over male approval. It's my daughter I'm frightened for. She's 15. School are changing ALL the toilets to "gender neutral". She's panicking about managing her awful periods with boys in the bogs.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 07/09/2018 23:23

Lagertha there is a thread on Feminism Chat about school toilets with a good template letter stating why there legally needs to be single sex provision. Might be useful in speaking with your dd's school? It was started in the last week IIRC.
