Given how much recent news has been horrifying I thought some of us could do with a laugh, so hear you go - Robert Smith's eyeliner is oppressive to people who want everyone to know that wearing makeup means you're a woman.

Is your friend’s name Ross by any chance?

I've not come across a non binary person yet who hasn't sounded like a largely straight person looking for a reason to join the alphabet soup brigade and get special snowflake with special pronoun status.

Just putting this here. Men in makeup - some rather tasty men, may I say.
They're still men.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 05/09/2018 14:16

Also, as a young goth in the 80s, I had a boyfriend who bought me a v-necked jumper in a hideous pastel yellow and because he thought I might like it.

Dear Reader, I did not sacrifice him to the forces of darkness marry him.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 05/09/2018 14:11

That article ... I have no words. Actually, I do have some:

How utterly self-absorbed do you have to be to write such drivel. Is he a troll? Surely he must be, surely no one clicked publish on that in good faith?! Is he on glue?

@BettyDuMonde

*"My friends were goths but it was way too-labour intense a look for me.

One of my friends once ran out of talc so used his mum’s flour to get his rubber trousers on.

3 hours of swaying at the indie disco later, plus a 8-goths-in-my-mum’s-hatchback ride home, and he found the flour had mixed with sweat and turned to glue, which had subsequently hardened in the cold night air.*

He had to soak his trousers off his legs in the bath. True story".

Thanks for this, I needed the belly laugh.

I'm a Goth. Does this make me special or not?

Ha - I have hairy legs and pits AND I don't care who sees them....maybe I really should relinquish my woman card.

The thing is, in order to defend against the ideology I end up using it. Because I do just know, as I have my entire life, that I am female. I am very non-stereotypical, but if anyone suggested I was male, I would definitely say that didn't match my felt experience. This leads me to have a great deal of respect for people who have gender disphoria and have always 'known' they were the opposite gender to their sex.

I just have absolutely no respect whatsoever for people telling children that they may be the opposite gender if they play with toys currently associated predominantly with that gender.

ARGH.

BettyDuMonde · 05/09/2018 00:44

M3lon - when the new genderist ideology becomes law and they come to take your woman-card off you, I expect they’ll take mine too - in fact, I’m pretty much planning on goading them into it by wearing sweatpants and crocks (with legwarmers) from now until then...

Although if I could wax my legs just by taking off said sweatpants, a la AAK’s assertion above, I might get some accidental lady-upgrade-points?

AngryAttackKittens · 05/09/2018 00:23

Sometimes if you try to just pull the trousers off anyway they take all your hair with them, I have been informed. Impromptu waxing.

I've spent actual time today wondering to what extent I am transphobic for not believing toys/clothes etc. have a gender, or that people convicted of sex crimes should be setting the agenda on self-ID and female spaces for the green party....when all along I am transphobic for working in STEM, wearing jeans and a T-shirt with no make up while failing to identify as a man.

I give up.

FloralBunting · 05/09/2018 00:20

This thread is a joy. In a chipped black nail-paint, dyed black hair in my line of vision sort of way.

The article is all so petulantly 'Stop looking at me! WHY ARENT YOU LOOKING AT ME?!!!'

BettyDuMonde · 05/09/2018 00:20

Wanders into thread moodily.

AngryAttackKittens · 04/09/2018 22:08

Count Dave! I knew one who had artificial fangs made. He used to wear them to clubs.

I think I have the solution: everyone, goth or not, should be obliged to go around with a blue or pink colour flash in their hair according to gender identity. Save all that guessing. No more precious flowers keeling over from being misgendered. And we'd have a proper definition of woman at last: human with pink colour flash.

Thanks for that Angry Attack Kittens - Fond GOT memories!!!

picklemepopcorn · 04/09/2018 07:21

I think men look great in eye liner.

sportinguista · 04/09/2018 07:18

Oh dear, they just sound like the ones we used to avoid because they took themselves waaaay too seriously, like the one who used to insist people called him 'Count Dave'. Was a goth, still am as far as real life will allow these days and being 47 too. Knew loads of guys with eyeliner etc, only 1 out of hundreds was trans, non binary would have been chalked down to thinking you were a computer perhaps. Most of the goths I knew were out to have a good time and that was about it, anyone who took themselves too seriously soon found themselves on their own.

picklemepopcorn · 04/09/2018 06:17

Actually, affronted and hurt.

picklemepopcorn · 04/09/2018 06:13

I read it several times trying to work out in what way Zoe was non binary, and how on Earth anyone was supposed to notice. Bless.

Angst and despair work really well as pronouns. Perhaps trans pronouns for non goths could be injured and piteous.

GlomOfNit · 04/09/2018 00:00

Oh god, this thread has lifted my spirits so much! Grin

WTF sort of Goth name is Zoe, anyway?

Yambabe · 03/09/2018 23:59

I met one yesterday Beyond, a Swedish one no less. He definitely wasn't non-binary. I could tell by the codpiece!

I have a picture, not sure if posting it might get the thread deleted though......

AngryAttackKittens · 03/09/2018 23:58

(Announces gender, stands there awaiting big dramatic reaction)

Goths - Mate, we're goths. This is about as much of a reaction as you're going to get.
