Who on Earth let this get so far!?

Private prosecutions go as far as the money takes the prosecution, or if the CPS decides it has merit, they pick it up and run with it.

Either Giuliana/Mark has run out of money, or she's finally listened to counsel.

hackmum · 30/11/2018 11:16

Thank goodness! Really pleased.

Koalablue · 30/11/2018 11:11

Congraltulations. Some common sence at last.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/11/2018 11:01

I wish I understood how it was allowed to get this far when it was clearly ridiculous.

Melamin · 30/11/2018 10:58

Congratualtions!!!!!!!!!

Over and done with already Grin
Hope everyone has a really good meeting this evening.
(I want to see a really happy photo of Venice and Linda and all you banner women...……….please Grin )

RiverTam · 30/11/2018 10:55

will whoever brought this action (Guiliana??) have to pay their costs and all costs involved? God I hope so. (I have no idea how this works, obviously).

Brava Linda and Venice!

Datun · 30/11/2018 10:44

@smeerf

I know, it's awful to have to be this covert about everything.

ToeToToe · 30/11/2018 10:44

Thank god good sense has prevailed. Shame it took so long - Linda and Venice have been through months of stress with this nonsense.

So concerning though - this is a campaign of intimidation against women for speaking out.

picklemepopcorn · 30/11/2018 10:43

LangCleg · 30/11/2018 10:37

Yes, will they be able to get their costs back? Or would they have to go to the effort of claiming?

arranbubonicplague · 30/11/2018 10:34

I'm glad sense has prevailed. I hope that the DPP took it over and declined to progress the case.

Linda and Venice have been through so much stress with this and the expense is ludicrous.

I wonder if Guiliana will have to pay costs?

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 30/11/2018 10:34

Correction - the email came throughout too late yesterday to stop everyone coming. We're all just waiting for Linda & Venice now.

ColourMagic · 30/11/2018 10:31

Lily Maynard has just tweeted that the case has been thrown out.

Excellent. I dont know anymore yet.

Avegemitesandwich · 30/11/2018 10:31

Oh, fabulous!

AwakeCantSleep · 30/11/2018 10:30

Case has been thrown out apparently.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 30/11/2018 10:30

Apparently it was discontinued yesterday but the judge missed the email!

Popchyk · 30/11/2018 10:30

Lily Maynard on Twitter saying that the case has been thrown out.

Faceicle · 30/11/2018 10:27

I'm dying to know what's happening - this feels very much like the Prince Philip announcement day!

arranbubonicplague · 30/11/2018 10:21

Are they being tried together? Surely they are different events.
Being brought to court for saying you'll defend yourself is ridiculous.

Linda said it during the talk - Venice is being held responsible for broadcasting the (unedited) talk.

CPA declined to prosecute which is why it's a private prosecution.

FloralCup · 30/11/2018 10:19

Thanks Errol and Arran.

arranbubonicplague · 30/11/2018 10:15

Can someone please remind me what 'crimes' these women committed?

Speaking after the assault on Maria Mc, Linda Bellos said that if a TRA attempted to hit her, she'd take her glasses off and fight back. She recounted some stories of being taught to box and having to fight racists literally in the street in her childhood.

Linda is prosecuted for causing fear and alarm by offering violence. An edited version of the video exists that strips context and is being construed as Linda threatening to "bash" TRAs rather than defend herself.

Venice is being prosecuted for transmitting the broadcast/uploading the video.

Some details might be awry but that's essentially it.

smeerf · 30/11/2018 10:14

@datun I was under the impression they weren't operating a waiting list but I might be mistaken. It didn't occur to me that people might not want to reveal their email address, I'll return it that way then.

The crime of being quoted out of context, IIRC.
