woman11017 · 25/09/2018 19:35

Smile looking forward to it, and a good result for Linda and Venice.

AdultHumanFemale · 25/09/2018 19:20

Good luck, everyone!

ShowOfHands · 25/09/2018 19:05

I'll be there in spirit. Wish I could be there in person.

Needmoresleep · 25/09/2018 18:55

Bump. Looking forward to meeting others.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 25/09/2018 14:10

I'll be there as I'm playing hooky from work especially. My employer knows why, too.

BreakWindandFire · 25/09/2018 13:54

I'm in - I can get there for 930 but not any earlier.

silentcrow · 25/09/2018 10:28

Good luck to you all - keep us updated if you can!

LittleLebowski · 25/09/2018 10:03

I am going to try and be there for 9 and do some sort of sign today. Happy to PM anyone (have you already in mind arran) if it looks like no one will be staying by the magistrates court. I've no idea if that area is not suitable for a lot of people to hang around or not.

arranfan · 25/09/2018 09:07

MsJeminaPuddleduck I can't get there for 09:30 either but it's been said that we'll move on somewhere for tea/whatever and networking/socialising.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 25/09/2018 07:21

Ok thanks - that's really helpful

sawdustformypony · 25/09/2018 06:54

I’d have thought the clerk would want it dealt with quite quickly so they’ll enter their plea and then adjourn it for a trial management hearing - 5 mins tops ? Or maybe the CPS will step in at that point and maybe adjourned to allow for review - still 5 mins top. I think by 10:30 you’ll have missed it for that day

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 24/09/2018 23:51

I'd like to come but can't get there until 10.30am - does anyone know how long people might be there for? Also would need to bring toddler so was thinking of just lurking on the sidelines so to speak.

DuckingGoodPJs · 24/09/2018 02:06

Best of luck to everyone, esp Linda and Venice of course.

OnlyObjectivity · 23/09/2018 23:16

Have either of them commented on what their strategy will be if asked to refer to the plaintiff as "She"?

Personally I'd say I was willing to do so, but would need to renounce my oath first.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 23/09/2018 22:42

Anyone who will be there - please record what happens.

I hope there won't be the usual suspects screaming/swooning in agony at the literal violence of truth/wee guided not knowing what the hell they are doing there but turned out because Big Betty at the SU told them that Bad Women are literally trying the kill them/ male thugs in frocks.

PencilsInSpace · 23/09/2018 22:38

I would guess the best bet is to get the CPS involved as soon as possible to try to squash it.

I'm amazed this hasn't happened and this trial is still going ahead. I can't imagine Linda and Venice have not tried this. They are probably very limited in what they can say about it.

arranfan · 23/09/2018 20:48

Thank you for the clarification of the action brought against you, lecanardnoir123

lecanardnoir123 · 23/09/2018 20:34

Just wanted to point out that it was a civil prosecution brought against myself and Melanie Byng. Not a private prosecution. Private prosecutions are brought for criminal actions when the CPS will not prosecute, but you can bring private criminal prosecutions without too much cost liability. Like civil prosecutions, they can be used to intimidate and silence. I would guess the best bet is to get the CPS involved as soon as possible to try to squash it.

I can offer lifts from west Dorset on Tues afternoon/night if anyone can advise how to do so safely. :)
(Have nc due to mentioning location here but happy to engage with others away from a public forum iyswim.)

Arran

I'm making a simple cardboard sign with 'Let womens voices be heard '

Thegirlinthefireplace · 23/09/2018 12:24

Thank you arranfan

arranfan · 23/09/2018 12:18

does the bringer of the private prosecution have to pay legal fees of the defendant if it fails?

From the link above it seems like it might sometimes be a nuanced decision:

Earlier this year, Peter Gray, the former partner of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LPP, received a substantial costs award after Hammersmith Magistrates Court dismissed a private prosecution brought against him and others concerning allegations of human trafficking. District Judge Tan Ikram reportedly described the private prosecution as “wholly improper”. The Judge’s rebuke is a reminder that private prosecutions, which have swung into fashion in recent times, need to be carefully handled.

However, altho' @lecanardnoir successfully defended a private prosecution and was awarded costs, iirc, several years on, these have not been settled fully.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 23/09/2018 12:11

Or does the bringer of the private prosecution have to pay legal fees of the defendant if it fails? Anyone know?

Thegirlinthefireplace · 23/09/2018 12:10

So if you have the cash you can effectively maliciously bankrupt a person through legal fees even if there's no legal case to answer. Wow.
