"A young politician and transgender activist who is running for deputy leadership of the Green Party was fighting for her political life last night after it emerged that she had used her father as her election agent even though he faced charges of raping and torturing a 10-year-old girl."

Aimee Challenor, 20, named her father, David, as her agent when she ran for Parliament in last year’s General Election and in council elections in May.

By then she knew the 50-year-old had been charged with abusing a ten-year-old girl held captive and forced to perform sex acts in the attic of the family home he shared with the aspiring politician.

Daily mail covering it now with full detail

LangCleg v good point about the lack of real life activism these days. It’s astonishing how much of an impact 2 women going to a swimming pool and a few pink stickers have had!

seafret · 26/08/2018 23:20

Being from that background, but actively campaigning to remove safeguarding frameworks designed to try and protect people from abuse is another. It either says you lack capacity to understand the purpose and need for safeguarding - because of your upbringing or it says you don't value safeguarding frameworks - because of your upbringing.

THIS

It's not "transphobia" to point that out, woke kidz.

YY. These woke kids are a-fucking-sleep, groomed into a stupor

seafret · 26/08/2018 23:18

Sorry for typos.

Too many unfit people seeking power and being susceptible to and ignorant of abusive behaviours and techniques. How dare any of these peope think they have the right to demolish safeguards away from women and children.

Will they expect that poor girl victim to have to just shut up, if faced with a self-IDing male in a dress in her toilet space or changing room or sexual abuse service, else be denouced as a hateful bigot? Anyone who would force this on her would be DC's willing accomplice. Flat out evil.

colouringinpro · 26/08/2018 23:15

Very informative thread thanks all. Will be watching this story closely - I'm certain, sadly that the scope will grow.

Haworthia · 26/08/2018 23:14

I’d temporarily forgotten about DC’s involvement with Scouts, gymnastics, Parkrun etc etc. How the fuck does a man with such a long and chequered history with SS, a man who has had his children taken into care, manage that? Surely even if his only conviction was cruelty to animals, that would come up on a DBS check? Or is cruelty to animals not quite enough to be flagged as a problem?

Reading with concern

In response to a tweet by Andrew Gilligan:

Clare King @ clarefking
One thing, Anyone standing for election for any party will be asked to declare anything which might be potentially or actually difficult (presswise, reputationally, etc) Clearly that includes a close family member charged with a serious crime if only because of the press angle.
Can't imagine the Green Party doesn't ask this of council/Parliamentary candidates/those standing for Leader/Deputy etc.Not declaring normally serious. Given he was charged in 2015, if she declared it,did GP allow him to be her election agent; if she didn't,what's their position?
and if she declared it, any google search would have come up with David C charged with animal cruelty & imprisoned and a clearly long/difficult involvement with Social Services. Many questions for Green Party locally/nationally here.

This goes back to conflict of interest.

Being from a troubled background where it later comes out that a close member of your family, did something which abused someone and going into politics is one thing.

Being from that background, but actively campaigning to remove safeguarding frameworks designed to try and protect people from abuse is another. It either says you lack capacity to understand the purpose and need for safeguarding - because of your upbringing or it says you don't value safeguarding frameworks - because of your upbringing.

If you then don't actively declare to your party how this might reflect on you and your party only serves to compound that inherent conflict of interest.

And let me make the point, that if you happened to be trans or a member of the green party, how the fuck does the situation that has arisen advance your interests? I'm sure there are trans people reading this, in as much horror as any of this and I'm sure there are green party activists feeling very betrayed by it.

If the Green Party has skipped on this due diligence its even worse.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 26/08/2018 22:55

it all was just under the threshold for removing the children.

I know. Sad it would appear the thresholds require adjusting. Also TBF- LA dropped the fucking ball massively wrt not noticing huge number of GP attendances. Seemed to have pissed the judge right off. Understandably.

Ereshkigal · 26/08/2018 22:48

According to some woke bro Green misogynist on Twitter.

LangCleg · 26/08/2018 22:48

Indeed the creep of authoritarianism in politics has come about as power as become more concerned through the running of social media campaigns which meant that volunteers and voices on the ground weren't heard or needed.

This, this, this.

Please everybody, even outwith this Challenor debacle, even outside all things extremist transactivism, think about this.

This is why things such as Man Friday and Sticker Woman are important. There is so little real grass roots action now - it's all astroturfing - that power is steadily creeping further and further away from the average person and becoming concentrated more and more into the hands of ideologues and those who simply want to turn a profit.

Ereshkigal · 26/08/2018 22:47

Aimee had a personal subdomain
the 'Challenor Family' photography run by David, Aimee & other family members

Apparently DC was the official photographer for LGBTQ Greens sometimes and photographed Pride.

Ereshkigal · 26/08/2018 22:45

Terfblocker appears to have disappeared up its own rear end.

If that's the case we can look forward to lots of sensitive souls wailing that they are now "unsafe" as they might have to hear an opinion they disagree with. As happened when Madigan brought down the original "TERF blocker." I may have lolled. A lot.

lowtide · 26/08/2018 22:30

Well it cost SS 400k
I guess they just didn’t have a leg to stand on. Not if the whole family were a strong unit. I’m sure they knew deep down.
Fucking sad. Those poor children.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/08/2018 22:28

As I read it the issue was that while there were huge concerns about the family and numerous jigsaw pieces, it all was just under the threshold for removing the children.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 26/08/2018 22:23

There were a few mentions in the judge’s 2010 report of anonymous referrals to SS concerning the state of the house, children’s hygiene etc and I thought “how many times do we see a thread on MN asking ‘should I report to SS?’” My initial reaction was this is why you should always report your concerns, there is usually a jigsaw being pieces together that your information can help with. But then I got to the end of the report and thought “what is the actual fucking point?” All those referrals, professional witness statements, case files 20 lever arch files of over 5000 pages of information, spanning over 10 years, previous children permanently removed, zero progress from the family on improving any of the issues and when it gets to court, SS change their mind and walk out leaving the children there. What is the point?

lowtide · 26/08/2018 22:23

@IncrediblySturdyPyjamas
I am presuming not currently.
I didn’t want to say anything controversial, I had a fear this thread would get pulled if I said something else.
I nearly did though.

lowtide · 26/08/2018 22:20

I don’t really understand the terfblocker thing.
I am blocked from them. And Aimee anyone else who supported her.
I didnt even say anything anti trans.
The world has gone mad. You employ a peodophile and people pull you up on it, and all of a sudden they’re a terf. Madness

NotTerfNorCis · 26/08/2018 22:18

Terfblocker is there and gloating and threatening to sue Glinner.

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 26/08/2018 22:18

Aimee is not a sexual predator or abuser.

That is quite a statement. Have you observed all of AC's sexual interactions since their coming of age?
