Let’s talk about how safeguarding is being disregarded

It seems like safeguarding is being thrown out the window in favour of gender ideology.
Many of us on this site work in social care, teaching, health care and similar professions where we are well versed in safeguarding principles. Many of us struggle to see such a core framework thrown out in favour of protecting feelings.

Perhaps we should go through point by point and provide evidence of how and why safeguarding principles, procedures and practices are being thwarted and broken down?

Adults want to keep their genitals and self ID but let's make sure that every child is medicated and mutilated while they are young.

That, and then this ...

wave the Trans wand and everyone is going to be running in circles of terrified wokeness and affirmation, in fear of being shamed/falling foul of guidelines.

We've learned nothing from Saville, if the people we charge with keeping the vulnerable safe are, once again, frightened to act, frightened to even speak.

I work for a charity that serves vulnerable people and as you'd expect, has policies and guidelines for this and for that, and when it comes to safeguarding they aren't worth the paper they're printed on. If I mention a safeguarding concern to my manager I expect nothing to come of it. I'm essentially covering myself. I don't work with children, and I hope it works better for them.

I do not see any way in which self-ID is compatible with acceptable levels of safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children.

JudithButlerNot · 27/08/2018 22:41

There is spin that anything other than support of trans issues is transphobic.
It means that potential hypotheses about a family's circumstance may be discounted. That is dangerous. It is the direct opposite of good practice in child protection.

The idea of schools not telling parents is a legal issue IMO and one that should be challenged. But who would want to put their child through that?

@tiredandweary - that’s terrifying! The definition of sex...I’m lost for words!

Have sent you a pm

Thank you for the links. I will read over the next few days and try and find relevant sections to post on this thread so people writing to MPs/ Girl Guides/ their kids schools have an easy reference of quotes and citations. I anyone else has time to do this too I think it would be really worthwhile.

Mum4MrA · 27/08/2018 21:52

Very courageous video. Thank you for sharing.

I've got safeguarding training coming up. If I get a sniff of any of this advice coming from Gires or Mermaids I will not keep my mouth shut

feminism is often described as "putting the safety of women and girls ahead of the feelings of men"

The same principle applies here.

xxmarksthespot · 27/08/2018 13:15

In so many ways this whole thing is like the Rotherham scandal - those in authority being so afraid of looking like bigots that women and girls are sacrificed to the cause.

In this case, as in Rotherham it was not just those in authority being scared of looking like bigots. It was - and is - those in authority actively supporting things because they were involved themselves or have general vested interests in seeing women and children being pushed aside, safeguards weakened and our complaints ignored. This is much deeper and further reaching than a handful of supposed well meaning fools.

For the second time this morning you've hit the nail squarely on he head for me.

LangCleg · 27/08/2018 10:22

If you read all those links, you can see how the actual law of the land is being completely overridden by these lobby groups. It's shocking.

LangCleg · 27/08/2018 10:18

Bear in mind that it's us, the women being called evil TERF bigots, who are actually trying to safeguard gender-questioning children and protect them from infiltrating abusers (whatever the so-called gender identity of those abusers; trans or not trans).

LangCleg · 27/08/2018 10:16

But what they are doing is (incorrectly) training adults working with children in safeguarding issues - hence me citing the exercises. That's why so much of this has slipped under the radar - if they openly stated that safeguarding principles no longer applies to gender non conforming children all hell would break loose. So they don't openly say it - they just run around the country training adults / schools in precisely those principles.

Exactly this.

tiredandweary · 27/08/2018 10:15

Sorry LemonJello. I didn't understand.

As LangCleg points out - it's Working Together - and of course, when safeguarding children, the clue is in the title!
