In support of women. It looks like some gay men are finally starting to get it and also to see how potentially homophobic the trans ideology is.

Thanks for the context Ducking.
I have an inbuilt gratitude tendency - no problems with that, better than an inbuilt FO tendency - but people do need to be challenged, not only to speak out but also to follow through. Otherwise it's just a quick head above the parapet, receive the bouquets and disappear. I'm currently practising polite challenges, on SM and (harder) RL. It's going quite well although I might have to up the ante to impolite challenges in some instances. More gin first.

NotTerfNorCis · 23/08/2018 14:25

I just saw this article. Good on him. Certain TRAs are already trying to get him into trouble with the Huffington Post. Even men risk their jobs for challenging trans ideology!

TheotherPamAyres

Also really good. I'd say tweet that to OJ, but he'd dismiss it out of hand because it's written by a Conservative. OTOH he might like it because it's written from a gay man's perspective

Thanks also to Meghan Murphy for her continued awesomeness in running the internet corner of sanity that is Feminist Current.

It was not always smooth sailing for Meghan Murphy. Her original site she had was stolen out from under her (about 10 years ago, by handmaidens). She got a fair bit of flack for the first few (mildly) GC - perhaps questioning - articles she wrote there. We rallied around her and helped with comment support getting FC going. Then, even in the last few years, she has had flack from content providers about what she can and cannot post on GC matters.

So I just thought I would mention all that, to put it into context when all the praise gets heaped onto a gay man for writing one article, even though we have been at gay men to get with the programme for many years. Certainly the 11th hour support is appreciated, but the time is 11:59, and we have been waiting for some time.

Destiny

Do it. I'm not on Twatter

TransplantsArePlants · 23/08/2018 14:15

Ah Katie, a walking dictionary of adjectives

Destinysdaughter · 23/08/2018 13:55

Should we tweet the article to OJ? Grin

I follow Skylar on Twitter, he seems like a really good bloke.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 23/08/2018 13:44

Is Katie really a fifth columnist? No-one can be that ridiculously inane, surely?

Noqont · 23/08/2018 13:44

Good article.

theOtherPamAyres · 23/08/2018 13:43

Katie can never let a Twitter thread go by.

In response to a tweet by Sarah Vine that women don't have penises, Katie replied that she was wrong because Katie had a penis and she was a woman.

With friends like these......... Grin

dontbringmedown · 23/08/2018 13:41

Brilliant article Skylar!

theOtherPamAyres · 23/08/2018 13:40

In the UK, gay writers like Graeme Archer pointed out the idiocy of the Conservative government's proposals, to Tory voters, in 2017:

"I'm a gay man, not LBGTQ+ and here's why Tories mustn't play the transgender identity politics game":

Popchyk · 23/08/2018 13:27

Katie can never let a Twitter thread go by.

I think a lot of the TRAs wish Katie would go away. Not a great advert for the cause.

Destinysdaughter · 23/08/2018 13:23

He’s shared it on Twitter and although the majority of the comments are supportive, this person isn’t too happy...

It is an unpalatable truth

I agree Wrath. I found it interesting that people (men) were commenting on twitter when Jonathan's article came out, saying it was a welcome calm, rational article after so much hostility.

And yet, so many articles I've read from the gender critical/radical feminist point of view over the last year have been similarly calm and rational, and made very similar points in similar ways - they just didn't have a man's name against them.

But I'm glad that men are becoming more visibly involved. It's good to see.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 23/08/2018 13:06

I'm glad he's speaking out.

Transwomen are sometimes read as women and typically present as women. Just because they didn’t technically have female bodies, I reasoned, didn’t mean they weren’t subjected to the same misogyny and sexism women face every day, regardless of any biological or physiological differences.

I agree that this attitude need to be challenged. Woman isn't a dress code, woman are adult human females. Women aren't seen as men if they wear trousers designed for men and put up a shelf, men aren't seen as women if they wear a flowery shirt and read a mills and boon book.

Yet we have to pretend that's the case when someone announces that they are trans.

If women could avoid misogyny simply by identifying as men, we all would have done it years ago.

heresyandwitchcraft · 23/08/2018 13:04

Thanks Skylar! Great piece. Thanks also to Meghan Murphy for her continued awesomeness in running the internet corner of sanity that is Feminist Current.

And this notion that we can overcome “genital preferences” is homophobic and erases our identities, as homosexual people. It doesn’t just echo the far-right conversion therapies so many of us have fought decades to end, it actively embraces these beliefs, as it implies we could become heterosexual if we just opened our minds and overcame our “preferences” for members of the same sex.

Excellent article.

Wrathofjurgenklop · 23/08/2018 12:56

The fact that a man is talking about this issue, means it is likely that people will listen and acknowledge what he is saying.

This is an unpalatable truth.
However, the comments section acknowledges that females need all the voices and support we can get.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 23/08/2018 12:53

Good article! It saddens me that it’s taking men speaking up for anyone to start listening to women about this. Thank you to those who are sticking their heads above the parapet though.

LaContessaDiPlump · 23/08/2018 12:42

I like this!

ToeToToe · 23/08/2018 12:40

More and more gay men are waking up to this.

Great article, thank you Skylar.

Chocolala · 23/08/2018 12:36

Good
