'Transwoman' blazes a trail across British Columbia to force salons to give 'Brazillian' wax, filing human rights complaints against 15 separate salons

nationalpost.com/news/canada/not-for-men-sorry-transgender-woman-files-human-rights-complaint-after-being-denied-brazilian-wax

The facts appear to be:

  • the complainant is accused of harassing salon workers
  • the complainant is anonymous even while those at the salon are not
  • the complainant used a male name but claimed to have 'transitioned', whatever the fuck that means
  • the service is described as a 'Manzillian', presumably this means cock & balls, though this is not clear

Obviously in addition to the right of salon workers not to be forced to wax cocks, they would likely not be trained in dick waxing, as it's a completely different procedure

This is very clearly a false assumption

It is. Some are, some aren't. They're the ones wanting to get their cocks out everywhere.

Charliethefeminist · 23/08/2018 09:47

Surely the point is not to ensure that transwomen can get their genitalia safely waxed. After all, plenty places do offer this service. The point is to ensure, out of a sort of insane jealousy, that women are denied the intimacy of the female-only salon.

I've only ever had nails done but in that short half hour one has very female conversations about very female things and it's generally accompanied by hoots of laughter and a fair bit of eye rolling about men.

This litigant just wants that stopped because they can't be a part of that, not ever. They can't have it, so no one can. They don't care about hairy balls at all.

silentcrow · 23/08/2018 09:47

TELI would be all over this here, if GRA reform goes through. They are set up to look for possible litigation opportunities.

I filled out the GRC consultation before I landed here at MN and before the excellent advice from various organisations. But this was something I kept coming back to in my answers - small businesses, charities, local authorities and schools will be absolutely hounded by lawsuits in the manner of the Christian Legal Centre. They rarely if ever win, but the press coverage is huge and always detrimental to those on the receiving end in terms of publicity.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a connection somewhere, given certain religious groups would rather have trans children than homosexual children, and CLC have brought at least one homophobic case.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 23/08/2018 09:46

I think that there is an assumption that transpeople are distressed about their sex, therefore would not place themselves into situations where their bodies are exposed as the sex that they are. So they wouldn't seek intimate treatments like this or be naked where other people can see them.

This is very clearly a false assumption.

TimeLady · 23/08/2018 09:43

If I was waxing his balls, I would make sure it hurt so much he didn't ask again.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 23/08/2018 09:40

What words could the salon use to advertise the treatments they offer?

I don't think they could even use vulva because some male transpeople use the term, and some female transpeople don't like to use the word to describe their bodies but will be distressed if they feel excluded.

I can't believe that someone refusing to wax a pair of balls has become a human rights issue.

KittyKlaws · 23/08/2018 09:36

But this never happens ... right?

Right?

ChattyLion · 23/08/2018 09:33

Any legal ‘requirement’ for female or male workers to perform intimate cosmetic or personal care on male clients’ genitalia is wrong.

It will drive people out of their jobs who can’t accept that they have to do this.

Equally as a female customer in regards to your own genitalia, you should ALWAYS be able to request a woman and NEVER pressured or forced to accept a man performing any kind of intimate personal care, beauty services (same goes for health care)

AgonyBeetle · 23/08/2018 09:26

In fact it really highlights the first law of misogyny to the max:

'Women saying no to men for any reason, including for the prevention of potential physical injury to the man, is a hate crime.'

There are not enough [eyeroll] emoticons in the world for this.

Charliethefeminist · 23/08/2018 09:21

Is this a genuine attempt to shut down businesses that cater for women - I really think it is a malicious, calculated and deadly serious effort to remove places in public life where women gather without men.

AgonyBeetle · 23/08/2018 09:20

Presumably this individual would also have been quick to sue if their cock and balls had been injured in the course of being waxed by someone who was not trained for the job.

Can’t win with these types, really. Hmm

Charliethefeminist · 23/08/2018 09:19

Make peace ✌️

Charliethefeminist · 23/08/2018 09:18

'True trans' in the sense of wanting to crack on with a quiet life and make piece with your dysphoria, yes, I would say there are. True trans as in, really having a woman's brain inside a man's body? No, completely impossible.

FanWithoutAGuard · 23/08/2018 09:14

And this is the difference between 'true trans' and TRAs right? Some people want a GRC so they can just live as best they can, with a minimum of hassle to themselves. TRAs seem to want it so they can demand things, so they can make people treat them as women on pain of prosecution.

The first is accommodation, the second is a complete takeover.

LangCleg · 23/08/2018 09:02

This one is going into my consultation response.

TransplantsArePlants · 23/08/2018 08:52

Ivy

Yes, it was a parody of the terrible 'front hole' nonsense

NameChangedAgain18 · 23/08/2018 08:40

I think it’s telling that the second individual mentioned in the article could have waited for a trained member of staff to wax their cock and balls, but wanted a Muslim woman to be forced to do it.

IvyFluids · 23/08/2018 08:36

Transplants I thought the third hole comment was on purpose Grin Have you seen the new thing where you cant event say vulva/vagina anymore in case it offends someone? You have to say front hole now.

Ereshkigal · 23/08/2018 08:36

This lawsuit may be a good thing

I agree.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 23/08/2018 08:25

This lawsuit may be a good thing. It should be obvious to everyone that the skills and techniques needed to wax men and women would be different, and staff may not be trained or want to perform the procedure on both men and women.

It highlights that we need words, particularly for women and girls, that everyone understands that mean something. There are lots of male transpeople that use the words woman, girl, female, vagina and vulva to describe themselves and their body. This leaves women and business no words to describe themselves and the services they perform that are for women's bodies.

ChattyLion · 23/08/2018 08:15

Is this complainant saying it’s illegal in canada to specialise in women’s cosmetic/personal services AND not to have fully trained for qualifications in every aspects of Male cosmetic/personal services under self ID? Hmm

I can’t see small business owners being able to fund the full ramifications of legal gender self ID.

KatVonSweet · 23/08/2018 08:07

So brave and stunning.

If a salon doesn't offer this service it doesn't offer the service. Waxing Bryans balls surely needs training? If it's not a service they offer then how dare this person harass them.

This is insanity.

FanWithoutAGuard · 23/08/2018 07:58

Thirdhole = asshole

I like it - woman-centric, therefore inaccurate for 50% of the population which we can hand wave/ignore just like the ridiculous 'front hole' we are being asked to consider using for our vaginas.

stillathing · 23/08/2018 07:36

So. Absolutely indistinguishable in action from a men's rights activist?

SturdyEarmuffs · 23/08/2018 07:33

TELI would be all over this here, if GRA reform goes through. They are set up to look for possible litigation opportunities.

This shows up the lunacy of the Canada situation & hopefully serves as a warning here what this could lead to. madness.
