Another very good thoughtful article from her.

As schools must have sex segregated toilets then this school is evidently prioritising one protected characteristic, gender reassignment, over two others, sex and religious belief. How can they get away with that? Wonder what equality impact assessments they conducted (the answer will be none).

Does anyone have the good fortune (?) to be in Michael Gove’s constituency? Might be worth finding out if he shares his wife’s views.

Popchyk · 22/08/2018 19:05

Now come on, NeverWanted.

Dawn hasn't had a freebie holiday since the 14K 9-day LGBT trip to LA in April.

You can't begrudge her this new week long freebie, surely? Dawn surely has a lot of insight into Italian tourism.

And while we are on Dawn, how come she gets away with the whole cultural appropriation = bad and woman appropriation = good thing?

I'm guessing nobody has ever asked her to explain it. I would love Paxo or someone to ask the question.

tiredandweary · 22/08/2018 19:00

Wonder whether any enterprising journalist will pick up her subsequent special award from the organisation that paid for her holiday? NOT that I'm suggesting an MP's views and support for self ID can be bought with a 10 day holiday and an award. Not at all.

Dawn Butler and her LGBT holiday has been highlighted.

The more people say "I am a woman with a penis" in the public domain, the more the GC message will get through.

theOtherPamAyres · 22/08/2018 17:51

She's also agrees with #stickerwoman

Sarah got replies to her tweet, including

To be clear, some women DO have penises and I am a woman with a penis. So you're wrong, Sarah (Katie)

Yes - that sounds like the sort of comment that will convince GCs. Hmm

Accidents · 22/08/2018 17:37

If people are that fragile they should call an ambulance and get some support for themselves. Ask them their address so you can call them an ambulance next time they say they are suicidal.

ShackUp · 22/08/2018 17:32

Its also the insinuation that ANY debate about how we handle this as a society is driving trans people to suicide.

Today's encounter with men has made me realise how low women are in our societal pecking order.

TimeLady · 22/08/2018 17:23

I find the suggestion that engaging fleetingly with some stranger on social media can incite a person to commit suicide really disgusting. My DF took his own life and it certainly wasn't something that was bandied around as a threat.

ShackUp · 22/08/2018 17:17

They are very scary, very misogynistic and very authoritarian. I had to block one of them.

Accidents · 22/08/2018 17:16

Where do these Twitter males get the aggression and all the time? Are they ill? Are they single? Do they go on Twitter when others within the house do the donkey work?

Mrskeats · 22/08/2018 17:14

I hate to after with Mrs Gove but on this issue I do. It’s a safeguarding issue.

Accidents · 22/08/2018 17:13

TRAs have not helped trans people, they should be supported properly. The average person is entitled to free speech, if you can't cope then please go get support away from Twitter.

Twitter is very healthy.

Owen Jones, Dawn Butler, Boris Johnson and Katie Hopkins are trolls calling for people to pile on others for an opinion. Social media madness.

YourVagesty · 22/08/2018 17:12

Hope her husband and his friends share her view.

ShackUp · 22/08/2018 17:10

I actually said, 'this is a safeguarding issue'

ShackUp · 22/08/2018 17:09

All I said was 'don't shut down debate, this isn't hate speech'

ShackUp · 22/08/2018 17:09

accidents well, quite Sad it was literally men shouting at me and trans people accusing me of inciting them to commit suicide: really scary

Accidents · 22/08/2018 17:05

Stop funding hate are being funded to hate anyone questioning the removal of female safeguarding?

ShackUp · 22/08/2018 16:52

I've had to remove my comment due to the abuse I was getting Sad

ShackUp · 22/08/2018 16:49

And 2 seconds later, 3 people calling me a 'TERF'. It's genuinely frightening.

ShackUp · 22/08/2018 16:39

Christ 'Stop Funding Hate' just got wind of this and there's a pile-on of people on FB claiming that GC voices are 'denying my right to exist'.

hackmum · 22/08/2018 16:03

if you go to the DM comments are sort by 'best', the highest rated ones are quite shocking. It really does show you how little we get away with here.

I think the irony is that those of us who are feminists are probably vastly more sympathetic to trans people than the average person in the street, let alone the average DM reader. We're the ones who get all the hate, though.

theOtherPamAyres · 22/08/2018 15:30

I think we will see the death of Self-Id now

Maybe.

I think the infiltration of women's spaces will continue apace as long as there is a very loose definition of 'gender reassignment' in the Equality Act. There is nothing in the definition to say that gender reassignment involves intervention from healthcare professionals, as far as I can see. (I need to read the legal opinion posted elsewhere today, 22nd August).

If anyone can self-medicate and get a boob job or other feminisation surgery, then I can't see how that differs from self-identification.

Am I mistaken?

TransplantsArePlants · 22/08/2018 14:43

I think we will see the death of Self-Id now. I am really hopeful. But where will the MRAs turn their attention to then?

noeffingidea · 22/08/2018 14:42

Most comments on articles on this issue show that the vast majority do not support self ID. I suspect that is why the Guardian usually close the commenrs section. I would guess that recent survey showing that only 18% support self ID is accurate, though even that small number could well be falling now with increased publicity.
