So what is trans?
Where is the distress that might help us all understand and empathise?

The trans ideology is bat shit crazy if they think we have to indulge a want.
They are undermining transsexuals who truly suffer with their sex.
They are trivialising this. I don’t get it other than it has to be a desire to oppress women. Which it clearly is. But why are these blokes so scared of their own sex? That is a question I would love answered.

Sorry, Truth, I know we are on the same page, I just read back my post and it sounds like I am somehow at odds with you because I started with your point.

KataraJean · 17/08/2018 21:45

I cannot tell you what it is that made me unhappy with my sex, but I can tell you it was horrible hollow feeling to be surrounded by everyone happy for who they are and afraid to be open about it

The crucial thing you say here is that you were unhappy with your sex - that is your biological make-up as a man. Sex is not gender. Thus you are speaking as a transsexual, not a person who is arguing that they are trans because they do not fit sex-based social roles (gender) associated with being male or female or because they have an innate idea that they are the other gender, whatever that means. But even then, it would be helpful to know why exactly you were unhappy with your male body, which is what I presume you mean.

Also, and I mean no disrespect, but I tell my seven year old not to believe that everyone else has no problems or is quite happy, just that he does not know what struggles other people have and what outward face they are showing to the world. It is simply not true that everyone is happy for who they are! Otherwise, psychotherapists would be out of a job.

The second important thing you say is that you are an Aspie. My understanding and experience of Aspergers is that it lends a tendency to see things in very black and white clear cut categories, and I also understand there are concerns about the higher prevalence of people on the autistic spectrum who have issues around their 'gender identity'. In my opinion that is because 'gender identity' restricts rather than broadens options, so if someone on the autistic spectrum has issues with nuance, they will find it harder to fit into an ever restrictive idea of what being a man or woman is - whereas in reality, all that makes one a man is possession of a penis, how one lives or behaves as a man is completely individual and it is up to you to embrace, challenge or negotiate gendered stereotypes.

Of course, I cannot and would not say that 'trans' is not a valid identity, and I fully accept your own conclusions that you are happier being trans. I agree it gives you a different perspective on the world. But I do not think it gives you a female perspective (although I am clear you have not tried to argue this, aside from the fiction of 'real life experience' as a woman) and I do not think being unhappy with your sex and taking steps to address that makes you a woman either; it makes you a transwoman, and that is fine. There needs to be room for women and transwomen, and not crowding into the same space and co-opting the other's experiences. We should be free and safe to say this.

Truthmytruth - yes, what I wrote off the top of my head of what has happened to me is sadly the experiences of many, many women. Probably the majority. Yet to look at us, getting on with it, you would think we were quite happy with who we were and our lives. Where we have shown that we were and are not, over the decades, is with the feminist activism and legal challenges that have provided greater equality in the law, woman-centred maternity provision, domestic violence refuges, rape crisis centres, women's book festivals and forums, all places where we could seek support (from those who understood) to make sure that we were able to just get on with it. These are the things which transgender ideology undermines and erodes with the insistence that transwomen are women, and male-bodied people should have equal access to same-sex space.

Ereshkigal · 17/08/2018 08:43

Making the leap to their sex merely demonstrates how entrenched is the belief of gender being innate. And, ironically, overwhelming, shows the necessity of feminism, particulary gender critical feminism.

I also don't like it as they are saying well that doesn't apply to super special me so I'll just opt out. Fuck all the boring cis people.

Starkstaring · 17/08/2018 06:23

And yet a surgeon is willing to perform a double mastectomy on a non-binary 20 year old (this is in the UK). with significant comorbid conditions.

Not sure what surgery a non binary person of an XY origin has.to have.

Datun · 17/08/2018 06:18

Another one here confused as to what actually makes someone 'non binary' and therefore trans? And how that means that they should have the right to use 'whatever facilities they are most comfortable with'? Could you expand please?

What's "valid" about confusing personality with sex because you think everyone else is a walking sex stereotype and you are completely unique and special?"

In terms of the OP, this ^^ sums it up.

Youngsters appear to have identified that gender is restrictive, don't like it, and have gone ta da! I'm non binary then!

Making the leap to their sex merely demonstrates how entrenched is the belief of gender being innate. And, ironically, overwhelming, shows the necessity of feminism, particulary gender critical feminism.

'Non binary folk' like Bunce are, in my opinion band wagon jumpers hiding behind a label that makes zero sense in terms of their lifestyle.

They've actually doubled down on the binary, not dismissed it.

It's cross dressing in old money.

And special it ain't.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 17/08/2018 00:38

I still prefer single sex facilities for women.
No men. Men have their own facilities.

Women don't have penises.

Ereshkigal · 16/08/2018 23:20

But because you want to be validated you have compromised your integrity and agreed that anyone who says they are trans are valid. If I wake up tomorrow and say I’m trans would you believe me? Or would you want to question this sudden decision?

YY I have a major problem with this. And it is this refusal to gatekeep in any way and opposition to any limits on what is considered "trans" which may torpedo the whole movement.

Bronner- People aren't buying this, on the whole. They have sympathy for transsexuals who they see as troubled feminine gay men, on the whole. They don't tend to associate them with the boundary pushing cross dressers and narcissistic "genderfluid" and "non binary" types who populate your movement. You really don't want them to start doing that.

Truthmytruth · 16/08/2018 23:12

Be the best person you can. That’s all we want. But don’t try to make the non affirming people feel bad. It is a different perspective. We are all allowed this. If you want to help, continue questioning those potential fabulous gay guys or females. Let them live a life first. Don’t try to catch them at their most vulnerable. Obviously you are not but please stand up to the activists. Help your transsexuals and fight for you too because society is starting to challenge this. The once, small percentage of transsexuals, who did not compromise women and children, are being redefined by TRAs and you, are being brought into the debate and the public, when they get the chance to see what is happening, will see you as a woKEman. Your life is also being stressed as a result. Speak up and challenge the shit. Please

OP posts:
Truthmytruth · 16/08/2018 22:58

I just want to reiterate. You are not the person I wanted to respond. I wanted the woKEman to enlighten me. Thank you for your response. I do not want to argue with you any more. I don’t understand it but I guess it is distressing. My fear is our kids are being indoctrinated into belief that makes them act hastily. You said you waits. You were a mature adult. This is where we want our kids to be. A real lived life and decisions based on experience. I say this because this is coming to my door and I actually see it from a different perspective. I see psyscological distress and escapism but google sees transgender.

Bronners78 · 16/08/2018 22:50

Having met many people, trans, cis, non binary I respect everyone and I’d support you anyway I can. I have helped a few friends in their early days and even stopped a young chap trying to buy hormones of the internet (scared him half to death and after a short spell of RLE decided he was just fabulously gay instead)

I have no advantage in society because I’m trans and have transitioned, my pension age is still 68, my insurance premium is the same. However, I’m happier in myself, my confidence has improved and friends tell me they see the difference in me overall.

I cannot tell you what it is that made me unhappy with my sex, but I can tell you it was horrible hollow feeling to be surrounded by everyone happy for who they are and afraid to be open about it.

Sometime people ask if there was a magic pill that could stop me being trans would I take it, that I struggle to answer. Being trans has given me a unique perspective on the world, but it has made my life more complicated. In the end I am who I am because I’m trans and Aspie and I’ve come to accept that that can’t change so I will endeavour to be the best person I can.

Truthmytruth · 16/08/2018 22:49

And they try to say we are priveleged.
KataraJean has told it as it is for the majority of us, yet trans ‘folks’ think they have it bad. Actually, I think trans ‘ folks’ are wanting to be seen as victims for attention seeking purposes. How many of us females who are victims wallow in this.
Katara Jean doesn’t but she is pointing out real life and I guess she has got on with it without asking others to validate her experience. Women are strong and women fight back when they have reached a limit. The trans ideology/ cult/ narrative / shite is making us all stronger. I am in awe with the woman on this forum. The trans ‘woman’ who respond here does not measure up to them and they shouldn’t even try because we women know what being a woman means. We don’t have to justify ourself but trans women do and they need to speak up and tell us more about what being a women is other than a feeling. That is disrespectful to us.
Be a transsexual but don’t try to say you are a woman. How friggin ridiculous do you think this is to real woman. We may tee hee you but we don’t believe you. The more you demand the less tee heeing we become. You now alienate us as a result. You are the other. The trans woKEman.

What constitutes a year of ‘real life experience’ of being a woman?

Because my experience of being a woman comes from being expected to do all the domestic shit, talked over or ignored in meetings, flooding when I am on my period, taking pills to avoid getting pregnant or tracking my fertility, miscarrying when I want to be pregnant, all of the associated issues with being pregnant, taking maternity leave, looking after a SEN child; inequality in marriage, rape in my own bed; being flashed at when out running, being called a fucking bitch by a man for parking next to his flash car (did not damage it in any way)... the list goes on.

That is not my name or what I wear. It is not my driving licence or the fact that i write F when asked my sex. It is my build and my anatomy. That is my real life experience of being a woman.

A transwoman surely experiences a year of being a transwoman- no less valid, but certainly different.

Truthmytruth · 16/08/2018 22:21

Bronners78
Thank you for trying to enlighten me. I wanted a non dysphoric trans person to answer. You had dysphoria. You are not the right person to respond. When you try to include non dysphoric trans people and try try to argue their case you are actually doing this from a unknown perspective so I can’t trust your judgement. So far you have managed to convince me that non dysphoric trans are not actually trans but just people who want to rebel against the stereotype. But because you want to be validated you have compromised your integrity and agreed that anyone who says they are trans are valid. If I wake up tomorrow and say I’m trans would you believe me? Or would you want to question this sudden decision? My last questions to you are this : what advantage have you gained by being a trans woman? How has this made your life better? What was so bad about your own sex that made you want to be a woman? I am really interested in this but I respect your right not to reply. The thing is it might help us all understand if you do respond.

Non-binary folk are people who generally don’t have GD, and mostly don’t seek any medical intervention. Doesn’t stop them being trans or valid.

Another one here confused as to what actually makes someone 'non binary' and therefore trans? And how that means that they should have the right to use 'whatever facilities they are most comfortable with'? Could you expand please?

Also, another one confused as to why trans people are always referred to as 'folk'?

TerfsUp · 16/08/2018 13:18

Trans folk use facilities they are most comfortable with

Fuck that shit.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 16/08/2018 13:18

Perhaps we are all trans in the end...

LGB people. Working mums. Stay at home dads. Women who don't want kids. Men who work in childcare. Women with manual jobs....

Yes, pretty much everyone when you get down to it. Maybe the only real gender conformists are the people who believe in gender identities.

Noqont · 16/08/2018 12:31

Trans folk use facilities they are most comfortable with

Fuck what the women think eh? As long as the men are comfortable? I don't think so. Not anymore.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 16/08/2018 12:24

Would gender non-conforming come under the trans umbrella, as another interpretation of non-binary?

And if gender non-conforming is trans, then surely gender critical is as well?

Perhaps we are all trans in the end...

Charliethefeminist · 16/08/2018 09:30

Do remember when 'get over yourself' actually meant something? Smh

Charliethefeminist · 16/08/2018 09:28

Stop saying 'folk' it's ridiculous. No one buys it.

TerfsUp · 16/08/2018 09:03

The issues around suicidal feelings tend to stem from society. Internally you know who you are, but you know society doesn’t accept you.

I have autism so this is my world. Funnily enough, I don't expect everyone else to bow to my demands. But, then again, I'm female.

Can you define trans as it applies to 'non binary folk' without GD?

"What's "valid" about confusing personality with sex because you think everyone else is a walking sex stereotype and you are completely unique and special?"

This.
