A group of parents in America have been making violent comments about a 12 year old trans girl.

Whatever you think about children and trans and bathrooms, this is totally unacceptable, that poor kid.

This the kind of behaviour that many people allege feminists/TERFS engage in, against trans people. Most of us know that feminists/TERFS do not do this, but this could be an opportunity to prove it.

I hope that if the chance arises, those critical of trans/gender will openly and strongly condemn such violence/threats against trans people. If you don't already.

We all know that this kind of threat is horribly common against anyone trans or gender critical. I seldom see anyone standing up for feminists who get threats from TRAs.

Let's be the opposite and make sure we denounce violence against trans people and such behaviour.

If it had happened in the UK I would suggest an open letter to make it clear this kind of thing is condemned.

Absolutely dreadful mob behaviour. Threatening violence has no place in a civilised society and threatening violence against a child especially so, regardless of the decisions the school makes.

We shouldn’t need to say this - the overwhelming opinion on this board anyway is that transpeople have a right to the legal protections they have under law and a right to just live quietly without fear of violence, as all of us do. What we are concerned about is erosion of women’s rights and child safeguarding. What’s happening here shows the failure of safeguarding- of both the child in question and the girls at the school.

OP are you seriously trying to imply that GC women wouldn't think to condemn violence so you have to TELL us? Let me tell YOU, you won't find any woman here condoning violence.

Unlike the anti-woman bigots who hide their atrocities under the trans umbrella.

FermatsTheorem · 14/08/2018 20:44

Agree with everyone else - those comments are horrific. Threats of violence are always wrong and unjustifiable, and to make them against a twelve year old is beyond awful.

"Encouraging trans girls to use the girls toilet will expose them to that behaviour."

Isn't this victim blaming? Noone should ever be threatened with castration no matter who they are.

TransplantsArePlants · 14/08/2018 20:36

We should not have to prove that we utterly condemn the kind of bigotry that those people are demonstrating. But We absolutely do. Bullying and threatening anyone, let alone a child is beyond the pale

But you would know that is you'd spent more that 5 minutes on this board

heresyandwitchcraft · 14/08/2018 20:33

I wholeheartedly, unreservedly and completely condemn the behaviour of the individuals involved in targeting this 12-year old child. Absolutely disgusting, and truly frightening. Violence or threatening violence is never okay, and it is especially awful that this happened to a kid.
The comments they made are beyond the pale and should not be condoned by anyone.

ReluctantCamper · 14/08/2018 20:29

I would say that part of the safeguarding responsibility of parents and schools is acknowledging that some people are shit heads (as the people posting the comments in that article self evidently are) and protecting children from that where possible.

Encouraging trans girls to use the girls toilet will expose them to that behaviour.

I believe it to be a failure in safeguarding the transgirl as well as the girls attending the school.

I don't condone making violent threats towards a child but I would be furious if I had a teenage DD who was being forced to share private space with a teenage boy. I think emotions are running high and the school has made the wrong decision.
