A group of parents in America have been making violent comments about a 12 year old trans girl.

Whatever you think about children and trans and bathrooms, this is totally unacceptable, that poor kid.

This the kind of behaviour that many people allege feminists/TERFS engage in, against trans people. Most of us know that feminists/TERFS do not do this, but this could be an opportunity to prove it.

I hope that if the chance arises, those critical of trans/gender will openly and strongly condemn such violence/threats against trans people. If you don't already.

We all know that this kind of threat is horribly common against anyone trans or gender critical. I seldom see anyone standing up for feminists who get threats from TRAs.

Let's be the opposite and make sure we denounce violence against trans people and such behaviour.

If it had happened in the UK I would suggest an open letter to make it clear this kind of thing is condemned.

OP posts:
BarrackerBarmer · 15/08/2018 00:51

I unequivocally condemn the threats and behaviour such as that displayed by these parents towards a child.

I invite my transactivist opposites to join me in condemning all threats of violence and acts of violence.

It does not undermine either of our positions to explicitly reject such nasty attitudes and harmful intent.

Ereshkigal · 14/08/2018 23:33

This whole issue needs a serious grip got on it, pronto. Accepting trans women does NOT mean accepting that they are exactly the opposite sex and should be treated exactly the same. It means providing facilities for them that meet their needs and ensuring that natal females also have facilities that meet their needs.

YY. Good points.

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 14/08/2018 22:29

This is another Public Service Announcement.

TheCountryGirl · 14/08/2018 22:20

I wonder where the OP has drifted off to....

Ihuntmonsters · 14/08/2018 22:15

Looks like it was the first day at a new school and that the child had previously used a staff bathroom (possibly after an incident). Poor transfer preparations by both parents and school it seems.

Noqont · 14/08/2018 22:14

This the kind of behaviour that many people allege feminists/TERFS engage in

Terf is an offensive term. You prevent rational discussion by using this term to insult women. Additionally this term encourages violence from certain groups against woman. Which I'm sure isn't something you want. Is it? Seeing as your post is about condemning violent behaviour. Something to think about.....

MrsFogi · 14/08/2018 22:13

No one should ever threaten violence (maybe TRAs could take that on board too Hmm).
On the issue of a "transgirl" in a girls' space I think institutions are making the wrong call all the time and failing in their duty to girls. I would be furious if I was one of the parents. That said I would be venting my fury in a non-violent manner and without threats of violence.

Branleuse · 14/08/2018 22:09

Absolutely horrible comments, but why is he being allowed to use the girls bathroom?

nauticant · 14/08/2018 22:05

I also got a "prove you're not a bigot" vibe from this thread IncrediblySturdyPyjamas. I'm not going to comment further.

TheCountryGirl · 14/08/2018 22:05

Self ID is a nightmare - I absolutely concur...it is heĺlish for everyone, especially women and children.

NotTerfNorCis · 14/08/2018 22:02

You do know 'terf' is an offensive term?

ReluctantCamper · 14/08/2018 21:56

Isn't this victim blaming?

Nope

Encouraging children to exhibit inappropriate behaviour such as trying to access spaces set aside for the opposite sex is a serious safeguarding issue. Any adult participating in this kind of behaviour should think seriously about their motives

Why do they want children to fight their battles?

silentcrow · 14/08/2018 21:55

Why members of a UK feminism board should be told to talk about it is a little beyond me.

Sound a touch like "so when are you Muslims going to condemn terrorism!!!!", doesn't it.

Bottom line: violence is wrong, safeguarding of all children is undermined by self ID. Don't think there's anything else to discuss.

Noqont · 14/08/2018 21:49

Let's be the opposite and make sure we denounce violence against trans people and such behaviour.

I don't agree with violence against anyone.

The school should have done more to safeguard the child. By using an alternative changing facility, a third space, such as the adults, if the child did not feel comfortable in the boys. But this case does highlight everything that is wrong with self ID which erodes safeguarding.

Voice0fReason · 14/08/2018 21:44

Absolutely horrific comments there and I totally and unequivocally condemn that behaviour.

I also believe that the school made completely the wrong decision to allow a boy into the girls' spaces. That is unacceptable and I would be furious at the safeguarding failure.

CholloDeNombre · 14/08/2018 21:41

This is the exact consequence of the trans ideology being pushed by anti woman extremists; it exposes children and trans people to genuine bigotry, and possible danger. As a society we should all be working towards solutions that maintain the privacy and dignity of all parties, and strengthening safeguards.

Instead we find everyone losing their freaking minds and allowing situations that leave girls feeling vulnerable and trans people open to abusive comments or worse. Self ID is a nightmare.

sociopathsunited · 14/08/2018 21:34

Horrific situation, easily solved by the provision and use of third spaces. Self ID removes safeguards for all.

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 14/08/2018 21:10

I don;t have to prove anything to anyone, thanks.

PeakPants · 14/08/2018 21:09

The people making the comments are hardly feminists- they seem to be barely illiterates from the Mid-West. It is of course wrong for the parents to bully the child like that and make nasty comments. At the same time, the school should be providing a safe third space for the child to get changed and go to the toilet. Saying you are a girl does not make you a girl and the female children at the school also deserve separate spaces.

This whole issue needs a serious grip got on it, pronto. Accepting trans women does NOT mean accepting that they are exactly the opposite sex and should be treated exactly the same. It means providing facilities for them that meet their needs and ensuring that natal females also have facilities that meet their needs.

FloralBunting · 14/08/2018 21:08

Yes, unequivocal condemnation of threats and violence toward anyone. Shouldn't need saying again because it is said many times here.

You might want to rethink your use of banned terms here, OP, they can get you deleted. There is a sticky thread at the top of the Feminist Chat section.

Ereshkigal · 14/08/2018 21:03

Schools should safeguard all pupils. What this does highlight is that vulnerable kids are on the front line in what is an ideological struggle between adults

Yes I agree.

Ihuntmonsters · 14/08/2018 21:01

This seems like a really unpleasant situation, and any threats, particularly towards a child are unacceptable.

Why members of a UK feminism board should be told to talk about it is a little beyond me. The school district and local police seem to be taking appropriate steps and it looks like the child is well supported. Trans rights activists allege all sorts of things, and do so regardless of the behaviour of their targets.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 14/08/2018 21:01

No child should ever face threats or violence and adults who indulge in such reprehensible behaviour are disgusting.

Schools should safeguard all pupils. What this does highlight is that vulnerable kids are on the front line in what is an ideological struggle between adults.

Bespin · 14/08/2018 20:56

this is horrendous and is unfortunately the unintended consequences of this debate which is simular to the unintended consequences from TRA both need to be safeguarded and assessed

Ereshkigal · 14/08/2018 20:55

Isn't this victim blaming? Noone should ever be threatened with castration no matter who they are.

No, of course not. I can both unequivocally condemn abuse and violent threats to all trans people, especially children, and also feel that this child should not be in female sex segregated spaces.
