A group of parents in America have been making violent comments about a 12 year old trans girl.

Whatever you think about children and trans and bathrooms, this is totally unacceptable, that poor kid.

This the kind of behaviour that many people allege feminists/TERFS engage in, against trans people. Most of us know that feminists/TERFS do not do this, but this could be an opportunity to prove it.

I hope that if the chance arises, those critical of trans/gender will openly and strongly condemn such violence/threats against trans people. If you don't already.

We all know that this kind of threat is horribly common against anyone trans or gender critical. I seldom see anyone standing up for feminists who get threats from TRAs.

Let's be the opposite and make sure we denounce violence against trans people and such behaviour.

If it had happened in the UK I would suggest an open letter to make it clear this kind of thing is condemned.

What on earth have British feminists got to do with a bunch of American men bullying a child? Why do we have to condemn them specifically? Obviously making threats against children is wrong, but no one here has any connection to any of it. Might as well ask us to condemn any other random vile behaviour directed at anyone anywhere...

A patronising thread, OP. Not impressed.

FruitOnAPlatter · 16/08/2018 10:11

Do most of you just talk on here without considering this stuff?

I show that i think bullying kids is unacceptable by not bullying kids personally.

I don't think that expecting people to 'come out against' things that they are nothing to do with, have no control over, and don't do themselves is pretty ridiculous and virtue-signalling.

Anyone who lumps feminists in with those conservative men is clearly doing it for their own agenda, and nothing a feminist says is going to make a difference, because they won't hear it, they'll just go on with their own story about what feminists say anyway.

Gender critical women do not threaten children or condone behaviour like that. I've never ever seen that on any of the boards or groups. Ever.

Do you ever even look at what the general population thinks of this issue? Look at the pink news survey ... says it all really.

Personally I think third gender neutral spaces should be made readily available.

TerfsUp · 16/08/2018 08:37

And I quote another great post: You brought this to our attention and told us how to react. It was patronising. I don't really care what some random on Twitter thinks

My feeling about concern trolling, being patronising and telling women what they should say: fuck that shit.

TerfsUp · 16/08/2018 08:35

This is a great opportunity to actively show that we, (unlike all the people who have been silent about the abuse of feminists), are rational, kind people who condemn threats and violence. We should take this chance to openly, vocally be the opposite of what is being done to us.

Thebewilderness put it well and I quote: "I have no patience for people who insist that women must start doing what we already do every day. It stinks of concern trolling, whether it is sincere or not."

I will put it more bluntly and less politely: fuck that shit.

Bowlofbabelfish · 16/08/2018 07:00

Then I thought 'shit this is going to be used as evidence that those who want to keep bathrooms single sex, are crazy bigots who threaten trans people'.

Gosh did you? I thought ‘poor kid, awful people making threats. how badly handled by the school’

Rather distasteful to make it political? A child is involved. This is a parenting website. Not a single person on here (and there are roughly 11 million users) would be anything other than horrified at a child receiving such threats. As the responses show.

Did you get what you wanted from this thread OP? What did you want exactly? Did you expect any other response from feminists/ parents than ‘god how awful to threaten a child what a mess.’

SPOFS · 16/08/2018 02:57

I'd just like to add that most public bathrooms in America have high doors and walls. The wall and door is usually around 1 foot from the floor, making them much less private than in the UK. This obviously means that it's much easier to "peep" (for want of a better word) on someone. I think that's why America gets a bit sidetracked on the toilet issue.

Datun · 15/08/2018 23:23

Like the tweet I posted earlier, they only posted the title of this thread and tried to whip up outrage that we supported violent threats and abuse of this child even though not one person said that.

Exactly. It does say a lot about them that they hold people in such contempt they they don't think, for a single second, they'll actually follow the logical course of checking out the thread themself.

sociopathsunited · 15/08/2018 22:58

Is it too late for cake?

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 22:57

The other thing that I don't think you are aware of, is that it absolutely doesn't matter what feminists say. It's completely irrelevant to TRAs. They cut and paste random bits of text, couple them together and go, see!

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 15/08/2018 22:56

Can we mention McCarthyism?

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 22:54

We see you, TRAs, always. Not directed at anyone in particular.

Datun · 15/08/2018 22:54

OP, I understand you want feminists to condemn the violence in the article (btw, apparently, it's not the actual parents of children in the school, it's randoms from outside the area), but feminists relentlessly condemn violence already.

It's not a new thing.
It's like asking people to condemn terrorists. Nudging them, because if they don't spontaneously do it, they must be complicit.

The other thing that I don't think you are aware of, is that it absolutely doesn't matter what feminists say. It's completely irrelevant to TRAs. They cut and paste random bits of text, couple them together and go, see!

Look what they said about Anne Ruzylo and Linda Bellos. Taking random words, and stringing them together out of context.

Like a kid's montage. Even this thread. The title taken out of context and stuff invented around it.

It's pointless. The only way to avoid it is to never speak.

#NoDebate.

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 15/08/2018 22:50

Such depths of manipulation - almost as if it was being posted by a [sex of person who may or may not have posted this thread removed by MNHQ].

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 22:40

I think creating this thread obliged people to respond as otherwise if it were tumbleweed it would have been pointed to as evidence of our horrible transchild hating. When of course when this didn't happen it was still screenshot in a desperate attempt to pretend that we support this abuse of a child.

You brought this to our attention and told us how to react. It was patronising. I don't really care what some random on Twitter thinks

This.

TransplantsArePlants · 15/08/2018 22:36

I think if you were sincere you might think about whether you have the need to prove that you are nice to people who are not. If you are a woman, you might want to consider why that is. And I am well aware how patronising I've just been Grin

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 15/08/2018 22:22

Could you patronise this thread up a bit OP? Not sure it's quite there yet.

iamawoman · 15/08/2018 22:20

Well the types of people that label others terfs and bigots aren't really going to change their minds and decide we are really lovely fluffy feminists if we condemn the perpetrators of the threats in this story are they, as it doesn't suit their agenda to listen to what women have to say . So why start a post on it I wonder??

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 15/08/2018 22:07

Do most of you just talk on here without considering this stuff?

Considering the stuff that just so happened because of your thread, that we pointed out was being screen shot showing how mean FWR is you mean.

No, never crossed our minds. How could it, if you weren't here to tell us what to do?

thebewilderness · 15/08/2018 21:59

HamsterToast

Were you aware that this is a parenting website?

SturdyEarmuffs · 15/08/2018 21:36

Hamster, the very fact that you posted this tells us you don't read much fuck all on FWR. I'm with thebewilderness on this - if you've bought into the narrative that posters here are 'crazy bigots' needing to appease then I suggest you do a bit more reading before you post with instructions on what 'we' need to do or say to 'please' others.

There's nothing posted on FWR by genuine posters not those plopping in with their disingenuous concerns that would suggest anyone here would condone threatening a child but you somehow feel we need to 'prove' that?

Take your concern elsewhere - those who do threaten violence could do with your lecturing.

HamsterToast · 15/08/2018 20:52

@thebewilderness Actually that approach might be the most successful. Most social changes comes about with a mixture of expressed anger/protest and rational discussion and mediation. I'm not much good at the confrontation stuff but I'm good at the second bit. I do think it's important to consider 'how things look' though. Not to the point that you stop fighting. But I do worry that we are teetering on the edge of being dismissed by the people who matter as crazy bigots. ie The ones who make the laws who are influenced by public opinion. There has been good work done to challenge that view by people like WPUK, by being clear and rational. We need to keep that going.

@noqont No problem, I think I was so busy trying to be cunningly vague in my post that I was just vague lol :-)

Sweetsongbird1 · 15/08/2018 20:18

The posts the school parents posted are sickening.

A poster up thread says every one was letting that child down and I agree.

These kids are getting caught up in terrible agenda that adults have caused.
