Joining, pretending to be feminists and posting shitty stuff, screenshotting that stuff as proof of how 'transphobic' this forum is.

Message from MNHQ: Thanks to all who posted/reported this thread. The OP has now de-regged and we're unsure whether they're genuine or not so we thought it best to get rid.

I noticed this a few days back, but its been very obvious the past day or so, new members often posting actual transphobic things, then this being shared on twitter.

Pathetic I reckon, but they seem to think its effective Hmm

It surprised me when they went after Datun a few days ago - screenshotting her posts all over the place - I mean how mad is that?

Datun is one of the most eloquent posters ever - makes such very good points, and is so knowledgeable. WHy draw attention to someone who has been responsible for peak-transing half of mumsnet??

That particular twitter person seems to have come off twitter now though.

Vickyyyy · 12/08/2018 21:04

If it was genuine, surely you would just namechange rather than de-reg?! I have posted odd threads on here before then felt silly about it and namechanged

If that 53 yr old ex-MNer is real, and if you're reading this thread - don't worry, if you're embarrassed, simply name change and come back!

I enjoyed your other threads, don't go just because you got a bit pissed!!

SingeBuggerBlack · 12/08/2018 20:33

If it was true, it would have kicked off on Twitter. I mean, literal violence on open mic night? Imagine the froth

paintedwingsandgiantrings · 12/08/2018 20:19

I don't know if deregging is proof of TRA involvement in this case, you know.

I did raise my eyebrows at the thread, and prefaced my response on it with "If this is true".

But - I'm on the fence with this one.

If she really did get pissed and make a scene, and then posted on MN while still "merry" (the OP was after 2am last night) then she may well have deregged in embarrassment this morning!

If a TRA troll, why not just namechange or carry on the pretence.

I advance searched the poster and they seemed pretty genuine on their other threads.

Of course I'm not so naive to think a MN history means you're legit. I'm sure I could make a pretty good pretend TRA if I could be arsed (I can't be arsed!), having had so many arguments with them, I know what they say, as I'm sure we all do!

But - still, I'm on the fence with this one. It could be that somewhere, there's a 53 yr old ex-Mner with hangover guilts thinking - oh no what did I do?! Deleting your account to stop yourself posting while drunk sounds plausible to me.

Vickyyyy this is it.

This is one of the reasons a site aimed at parents is such a stupid place for them to try this shit. So many of us are used to saying "That's nice dear, now pull your trousers up, I'm talking to Karen now..."

I can't screenshot the deletion message as I didn't post on the thread and now can't find it!

Agree it is worth engaging in good faith and politely with newcomers.

MipMipMip · 12/08/2018 19:40

Please screenshot the deletion message - that way if their "proof" gets posted it can be countered with "we agree it's a shitty thing to say - posters reported it and mumsnet deleted it and it was a plant anyway" showing that it wasn't allowed to stand.

FloralBunting · 12/08/2018 19:38

I have slightly more patience with eager squirrel newbies - it wasn't so long ago I was one myself! I do understand why the stalwarts get mightily fucked off with it, though, and I think given the level of monkey scat we get flung at us here, no woman should feel obligated to rictus smile and placate newbies.

And seriously, lurkers, if you love these gutsy women from lurking and reading along, you are probably going to expect a bit of arse-handing-to-you if you put your foot in it. This is still Mumsnet, nest of vipers, after all.

FruitOnAPlatter · 12/08/2018 19:36

Exactly right Floral.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/08/2018 19:35

‘Put it away now, dear. No one wants to see your willy

I had to say that in a science museum once

I didnt say dear though..

If only someone had said that to Jess...

SirVixofVixHall · 12/08/2018 19:31

Have noticed the sea lioning and fake naivety too.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/08/2018 19:29

Im always polite Smile

Til theyve been deleted, cos if mumsnet deletes them it probably is a fibby no name thing!!

TransplantsArePlants · 12/08/2018 19:27

Floral

Yes. I like that analogy Grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 12/08/2018 19:26

I wondered where that went

I advance serach everyone who posts something 'strange' from a new nickname now

And usually they have only been here a few days...at least most try and pretend that they have looked at other boards

The fibbing goady nameless thing Hmm

TransplantsArePlants · 12/08/2018 19:24

I agree. Even if you suspect faux-naivety, it can be helpful to at least point to the relevant old threads. More and more lurkers are watching us

FloralBunting · 12/08/2018 19:24

LangCleg speaks sense here.

I see it like having a visitor in a house where your many children are running around. Occasionally you need to attend to the kids to deal with something, but mostly you just carry on having a calm conversation with your visitor, no screeching, no hystrionics necessary.

This is one of the reasons a site aimed at parents is such a stupid place for them to try this shit. So many of us are used to saying "That's nice dear, now pull your trousers up, I'm talking to Karen now..."

MaverickSnoopy · 12/08/2018 19:23

Just goes to show how threatened you us they are. They must be worried.

paintedwingsandgiantrings · 12/08/2018 19:22

Please can we still be polite to new posters though, and give them a little benefit of the doubt?!

People do come here genuinely wanting to learn about the issues.

It doesn't take a minute to point new posters to the excellent break it down for me thread - but I've seen newbies asking for some direction get a snarky "why not go read the posts yourself" or similar.

It makes me cringe when people do that as it reminds me of TRA's "educate yourself" and "oh no I couldn't possibly do emotional labour for you by actually attempting to back up my illogical arguments" nonsense.

SingeBuggerBlack · 12/08/2018 19:17

I suspect the ‘transphobic’ posts will actually gain us more supporters in the long run. The ‘proof’ will no doubt entrench the already entrenched even further, but anyone who’s remotely on the fence who decides to check out the source, well, we know what they’ll actually find.

SingeBuggerBlack · 12/08/2018 19:11

There’s a tactic a week

Certainly the tactics shift but I think it’s becoming pretty clear how very limited their bag of tricks actually is. It’s gone full circle and we seem to be back to sealioning and faux-naive posters again too.
