Looks like Grindr are setting up a trans version... but the name...

They've chosen is "kindr".

Given the disturbing underground usage of the term "kind" is that not an odd choice?

They've not said exactly what the new app is but from the video it does imply it's trans-focused.

Looks like Grindr are setting up a trans version... but the name...

If kindr is to filter out racism (good) then why are there people posting about “shaking up the cis-tem”?

ILoveDolly · 10/08/2018 21:53

Jesus wept. I think the IDEA is great. The name though is problematic.

SisterNotCisTerf · 10/08/2018 21:52

They might want to take a look at some of the other tweets that appear when you search Kindr...

It’s not just us making that connection we aren’t allowed to point out.

It’s the name of actual kindergartens!

It’s also the name of a (very attractive to children) animated game.

What the hell were they thinking?

Datun · 10/08/2018 21:51

nauticant

I'm all for filtering out racism. But a different name. 'Nicer'. 'Calmr'. Koolr.

Or just delete racists off Grindr?

Datun · 10/08/2018 21:48

Oh it's much worse than that Datun, this place needs to be shut down, police called, lawyers to be brought in, and I disgust them.

On another day we'd be paid for this advice!

nauticant · 10/08/2018 21:48

It is worth reading the pinknews link. The story there is that kindr is to be a version of grindr in which efforts are made to filter out racism. The involvement of Munroe Bergdorf relates to the anti-racism aspect and is not about trans. It's worthwhile being aware of the facts here.

BabySharkDooDooDooDoo · 10/08/2018 21:44

That is absolutely appalling! I cant believe they have let that name stand given what its meanings are

SisterNotCisTerf · 10/08/2018 21:43

Yes apparently we’ve pointed out the VERY FUCKING OBVIOUS connection to children in order to get trans people attacked Hmm

SisterNotCisTerf · 10/08/2018 21:39

Found it.

Nice bit of disablist language being tossed in there. Hmm

Chamomile tea 😂😂😂

SturdyEarmuffs · 10/08/2018 21:39

Oh it's much worse than that Datun, this place needs to be shut down, police called, lawyers to be brought in, and I disgust them. Strong words. Just none of them remotely concerned with the conflation of the name Kindr with anything untoward.

Datun · 10/08/2018 21:35

Twitter TRAs are cross that we are high-lighting the commercial suicide of naming a dating app Kindr?

Claiming our highlighting the name is the problem, not the name itself.

Something called focus groups, that marketing companies pay an absolute fortune for?

Got it.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/08/2018 21:34

In that case it will be interesting. Men are not held to the same standards of ‘being nice’ as women are. The man who had the ‘I care not for the opinions of the transactivists. You may quote me’ line was not piled on. So far not much of this has affected men.

I know a lot of us have said that when this does affect men, we may see some movement. So let’s see what happens.

I would suspect men will be free to happily state their dating preferences and women will not.

SisterNotCisTerf · 10/08/2018 21:32

I get ya sturdy! Grin

ChattyLion · 10/08/2018 21:30

Jesus wept. Sad
I’m really hoping this is just a wind up and Chris Morris is about to appear.

pombear · 10/08/2018 21:28

(Waves to twitter)
I'm just going to mention again, from reading around this, it doesn't look like a separate new app, despite this thread's title.

It looks like it is a campaign to 'address' transphobia on Grindr as well as other 'isms/shaming'. With a title with unfortunate associations

Many people have pondered on these threads in the past why #get the L out type of activity hasn't really taken off in the same way amongst gay men.

I think it's because it doesn't really affect them on the whole. This is probably the first time that there is a more obvious challenge to gay men who use Tindr of why they might be 'phobic' in not considering trans people in their dating pool.

It's already prompting the same conversations Magdalen's been having forever, but in reverse (ie gay not lesbian):

Could prompt some new eyes to be opened to the gender-critical issues.

SturdyEarmuffs · 10/08/2018 21:28

Now I wouldn't be so crass as to post someone's twitter name here, thus pointing focus on that person, unlike them as they don't even cover up names being screen shot here.

👋

ThatsWotSheSaid · 10/08/2018 21:28

Is it not just supposed to be ‘kinder’ as in ‘more kind’ to tackle the outrageous racism and general nastyness on grinder. People will state their dating preferences in extremely offensive ways I have seen ‘no fats no blacks’ writen on profiles.

SisterNotCisTerf · 10/08/2018 21:24

Where on Twitter?

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 10/08/2018 21:20

We are being quoted and posted on twitter, just so you're all aware.

Course...what better way to spend your friday night than agreeing with feminists that to start a trans dating website called 'kindr' is surely too near the mark...unless you are saying they are disagreeing...in which case....erm...well...

Urbanbeetler · 10/08/2018 21:18

Of course we are, which is diverting focus away from the issues which actually affect women. This is a plop thread.

Datun · 10/08/2018 21:18

I know that visitors to FWR have increased from 15000 to 177000 in one year (which is greattt for advertisers), but I'd be genuinely interested to know how many were alerted via Twitter and TRAs.

SturdyEarmuffs · 10/08/2018 21:14

Can everyone give our resident lurking twits a wave 👋

We are being quoted and posted on twitter, just so you're all aware.

My opinion is that your opinion is silly.

And I've explained why.
