Laura Huteson death: Hull man killed woman in 'bizarre' sex game www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-humber-45140580

How often hetersexual men die during “risky” sex games because I can’t think of one case from the news? I know that sadly happens in same sex couples/ participants (can think of a couple examples from the news) but in hetero? It seems it tends to be women who love being throttled, punched, tied up, brutalised.

What does it mean he did not intend that to happen. What did he think would happen.

This is so fucked! A woman is murdered and a worthless man concocts a cock and knife story and gets SIX YEARS!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Come on, Stevejobs...tell us again how men protect women!

placemats · 10/08/2018 19:02

Thanks for the clarification Lang

Don't think I could bear to look at what the 'discount' was.

Buy one get one free?

ToeToToe · 10/08/2018 18:58

For all we know that could've been a cold blooded murder that was entirely premeditated. She may have had no idea of the presence of a knfe.

The dead women don't get to tell their side of the story. This makes me sick.

It's like Oscar Pistorius - he gets to tell his side only to the court - because she's, well dead. And they always seem to be given the benefit of the doubt - while the woman is, well, dead.

21 years old.

LangCleg · 10/08/2018 18:54

He obviously admitted not guilty because it went to trial.

Article says he pleaded guilty. So the court business was sentencing after mitigation heard. If I get time, I'll look for the sentencing remarks to see what, if any, discount he got for an early plea.

Popchyk · 10/08/2018 18:45

And if he'd actually served the 18 months that he was sentenced for in the aggravated vehicle taking and theft case, he'd still have been in jail in the night in question.

Another factor. Repeat offenders consistently let out early. So that they can commit further crimes while they are still on licence.

TatianaLarina · 10/08/2018 18:38

A 21 year old up for a bit of fun with a knife with a guy she just met that day? Pull the other one.

ILoveDolly · 10/08/2018 18:33

It takes quite some force and intent to cut through human flesh. Makes me sick for the poor woman even if she initially thought it would be a bit of fun with a blunt knife.

placemats · 10/08/2018 18:32

If this woman had survived her injuries and rang the police then the outcome would have been so much different. My guess would be he would be in for at least 8 years.

placemats · 10/08/2018 18:28

Dead women can't speak

Needs repeating again, and again, and again, and again, and again.

LangCleg · 10/08/2018 18:28

Something has to change. Is the CPS too risk averse with charging? Are juries inadequate to the task? Are judges a front line of misogyny? What?

LangCleg · 10/08/2018 18:26

There many issues with the US justice system, but I don't think they'd ever insult the memory of a dead woman by sentencing her murderer to 6 years, released after 3..

I dunno. This one seems to have been charged down to manslaughter - either because the CPS believed his defence or because CPS feared an acquittal on reasonable doubt grounds. And there are automatic discounts on sentences depending on the point at which a defendant pleads guilty.

Most US states seem to have offences of voluntary and involuntary manslaughter. This would likely have been involuntary based on the defence (murder requires premeditation; voluntary manslaughter requires intent to kill). Looking down the list of sentencing guidelines on Wiki (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_punishments_for_murder_in_the_United_States), it seems pretty much in line.

So if the case had turned out the same way stateside - the defence either believed by prosecution or feared strong enough to create reasonable doubt - it looks as though the sentence would have been similar in most states.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/08/2018 18:26

Poor woman..

Porn has made choking etc mainstream, whether women want it or not. Now what people do in their own time in private as consenting adults is up to them BUT when acts like this become expected more widely this is one of the results.

The bus stop case was really chilling - the defence basically tried to say that she had a prior interest in choking and so naturally this was just sex gone wrong. how can that possibly be seen as a reasonable defence?

So you’re now seeing a situation where a man cuts a woman’s throat during sex and the defence is that ‘oh it’s just sex gone wrong.’ Again, how can that possibly be seen as reasonable? He had a knife under his pillow? She just rolled into it?

Now if you wake up in the middle of the night and someone is breaking into your home and you grab a knife from the kitchen in self defence that’s seen very differently to having a weapon in/by the bed, because the latter presumes you’re tooled up for violence. But having a knife under your pillow and using it during sex? Totally fine! 🤦🏻‍♀️

And let’s look at the weighting given to their histories.
He has a record of violent behaviour, confirmed by police and the courts.
She has no criminal record but apparently has had slightly edgy sex in the past.

So his real, documented history of violence is ignored but her alleged Non violent preferences mean he gets a light sentence.

Fuck. That. Shit.

Yes, words fail me. This has it all doesn’t it? Double standards, victim blaming, victim shaming, life being cheap... the lot. God it must be so frustrating being a copper and seeing all your work to bring people like this to court just dashed.

Urgh.

placemats · 10/08/2018 18:22

Line out the cocaine.
Keep a knife under the pillow.
Enjoy extreme sex that includes strangulation without censure.
Stab the woman you are having sex with in the jugular. (Obviously, you know where this is beforehand).
Kill that person.
Have an orgasm.

Whilst on trial:
Claim to love the person and cry tears.

Get 6 years in prison, out in three if the appeals don't work.

Obviously with the tears and all, this will not be rinsed and repeated.

Go out and date further women.

It's quite literally one is left without words.

Yes.

She was only 21 Sad

Datun · 10/08/2018 17:58

(I know you're in it already, m'dear.)

You know what it is Lang.? I read this, I read about that poor young woman who was trafficked and raped thousands of times, and wankers like our fledging misogynist, saying no one wants to be a feminist because there's no longer a need.

And I really don't have any words left.

All the expletives, the outrage the exclamation marks, sometimes seem to fall away.

It's quite literally one is left without words.

LangCleg · 10/08/2018 17:52

Holding a knife to a woman's throat during sex says you are getting sexually aroused by threatening women with violence.

I wish judges would make far more of this aspect.

Join the bloody club!

(I know you're in it already, m'dear.)

LangCleg · 10/08/2018 17:51

Did the police and the CPS actually believe this defence? Or did they charge down to get a conviction, any conviction?

I would dearly love sight of the charging discussions and decisions.

Butterymuffin · 10/08/2018 17:20

He'd done this repeatedly according to the report. But the logic seems to be that because no woman had died from it previously it was all fine and totally unexpected that any woman might ever die as a result of someone holding a knife tightly against their neck. Hmm

TatianaLarina · 10/08/2018 16:40

I think the message is that women’s lives are cheap and it’s ok to kill them.

TwistedStitch · 10/08/2018 16:39

So he already had the knife under his pillow- it's not something they decided to use together. He has a history of violent behaviour and a young woman ended up dead in his bed. He then repeatedly lied or refused to co-operate with the investigation. But we are to take his word that these acts were consensual and just a 'sex game' gone wrong.
