BBC Children In Need withdraws funding from Glasgow rape crisis centre for 'not doing enough for men and boys'

It’s because the Scottish government and many SNP voters have been vocal against the BBC.

This could work out in women's favour: a charity funded by direct public subscription wouldn't rely on grants with pomo conditions attached from middleman "charities", so would be free to stay single-sex.

Just made a donation, and ticked the box for them to keep me informed of ways to help in future. I didn't know Abused Men in Scotland had lost funds too. A worrying trend - surely some services are better single sexed, as they can be tailored more appropriately?

Glasgow Rape Crisis has opened a JustGiving appeal, due to the number of enquiries about how people can donate.

Because of withdrawal of funding, their waiting list has been closed to new service users. The money raised will mean that the waiting list can be tackled.

Actually Rape crisis does provide a service for men by helping the women and girls they rape.

As I said, support from GRC gave me my life back. I am the mother of a DS. They helped him by doing that, because I need to be able to provide for him, not be off sick with PTSD.

Would they stop giving to charities designed to reduce FGM too, as that helps females more than males?

Completely agree that it makes the BBC look terrible at a time when they/CIN need to be actively supporting the multiple good causes who are doing their best to mitigate against VAWG.

These charities are almost all run on goodwill and basically fresh air, so a big funder like CIN disappearing will be very hard to replace. It will also be scaring the crap out of other women’s charities who have a single-sex public benefit, adding to the beleaguered climate.

They appear to have taken the bizarre position that all facilities must be unisex if they want grants from an organization that claims to be interested in helping "Children in Need".

My uncle worked for the BBC and always said how he hated CIN because the celebrities were paid and very few would donate their fee to the cause. The sports stars would show up and donate their time for free.

My uncle was not paid much and was asked to donate his wages for the week leading up to CIN. He said he would when those he was promoting also donated their pay in full.

It has taken years and years of public education, fund-raising, training, building confidence and expertise, scratching around for grants and balancing books, to build these services.

It is infuriating to hear words to the effect: "Very nice. We'll have some of that, now. We'll move in to that office over there, but give you some time to reorganise and re-orientate the service. A nice cup of tea wouldn't go amiss either".

We don't dispute that all rape victims need help and somewhere to go. It's just friggin' cheeky to assume that women's services will fill the gaps.

And in other news, the Cats Protection League criticised for unfairly discriminating against Lions and Leopards.

I've signed and this bit really struck me.

'Given that more than 90% of all reported rapes are committed against women it would seem more appropriate for Children in Need to consider providing funding to services geared up for male survivors rather than withdrawing this award.'

I will make a donation to the Rape crisis centre in Glasgow and also write to children in need to say unless their decision to pull funding is reversed I will seriously consider never supporting them again.

They need to review who and what they are supporting and who and what they are not supporting. They will I hope hate the bad press this gives.

This is misogyny in action. If they care about men and boys, support a charity working with them. Or start one! But don't sacrifice women and girls to a misogynistic ideology. Recognising one group needs help doesn't mean we can throw the other majority group of victims out without help, what were they thinking.

Not one dime will go to CiN from this house.

p.s. A pp mentioned the Masons. Last week they announced that men who were previously women would be eligible to join and women who were previously men and already members would remain as members.

Also the charity sector in general seems to be a total mess, at least the big ones.
