Fucking horrific. And thank you to the Metro for publishing this act of sexual assault and animal cruelty under the "weird sex" section.

Honestly, what the fuck is wrong with men. How do 8 men find each other that would willing rape a pregnant goat to death? If there aren't loads of disgusting men out there how do gang rapes happen? coincidence that ab inch of disgusting bastards were together?

No idea.I think I have searched some stuff on vegetarianism/veganism lately ? the link was originally to one of those faux news type websites so I googled it to find a British news link and didn't want to use the DM.

Oooh pallet crafts

Gonna try and build a wine rack

But yeah...back on point, how the fuck did it come up on pinterest

IDontEatFriedTurtle · 09/08/2018 11:18

true that was the actual headline, I hadn't thought about it. the truly fucked up thing is somehow it came up for me on pinterest, that was a bit of a shock. I expect it on FWR, and I expect it on basically every news article, but I definitely wasn't expecting it while looking at cakes and pallet crafts.

I don’t think it should have been changed - it’s been a headline in the newspaper

Yep

GoldenWonderwall · 09/08/2018 10:49

I don’t know. I suppose no one wants to hear about poor pregnant goats being raped so they’d rather not see it. I think it’s a knee jerk reaction rather than a considered approach as it’s distressing, I don’t think it should have been changed - it’s been a headline in the newspaper.

I’d love to live in a world where men don’t do things like this. Whilst I do live in this world I reserve the right to discuss it, be angry about it and to call out the reasons why this happens. Too many men, too often and I’m sick to the stomach.

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 09/08/2018 10:46

Oh ladies. Do behave.

Y'all know that the goat should have got some Incredibly Sturdy Goat Trousers...our new product will be on the shelves as soon as the marketing dept have sorted out the international shipping schedule.

Also, I guarantee this will be more and more prevalent, what with all those Pansexuals about these days...what with Pan being a goatfucker and all.

*it might disguise what happened to a child

Cloth ears.

IDontEatFriedTurtle · 09/08/2018 10:37

It's a bit like the way you talk around something to avoid a child understanding, but the adult you speak to knows exactly what you mean.

If I say "pregnant goat dies after assault trigger sexual violence" it might disguise what happened to an adult but you will think exactly the same thing. I do find it strange. I'm not a fan of Russel Brand but I once heard him talk about newspapers using asterisks to spell swear words. F**CK for example. He basically said that letters are there to create words, if you swap the letters to asterisk but I still read "FUCK" in my head, you have spelled fuck. Same sort of thing here?

OP posts:
IDontEatFriedTurtle · 09/08/2018 10:33

Off topic (sort of) but does anyone have any thoughts on trigger warnings?

I appreciate the title was harsh, but "Pregnant goat dies after being raped by 8 men " is exactly what happened.

How else should I have worded it, to me it is obvious that on a site about feminism that rape will be discussed. I obviously don't want people with PTSD to think they can't engage with feminism but I don't see how else it can be got around? If it only said "trigger sexual assault" wouldn't that be saying much the same thing and bringing up the same mental images?

First of all I am not an "MRA" - the main thing that offends me about MRA type websites is that they compile news reports and social media posts that they present as evidence of the "nature" of women. The comments underneath such posts will have tonnes of men chiming in that "AWALT" (i looked this up and it seems to me "All Women Are Like That") or that "women are f*cked in the head" etc.

This thread is just the same - find something terrible men have done, present it as evidence that men are terrible and need to do more to stop male violence.

I point out that men already do more than women to stop other men doing things they don't like and you seem to get angry and say it's not enough. I agree it would be nice if ISIS would just go away if we told then how upsetting we all find their activities, but this does not work and it never has. So what actually are you proposing should happen ?

Are men who are in jail because the committed crimes against women there because a woman put them there and stops them getting out ?

So short of getting men to build more jails, and fill them them with other men (who they then need to keep in there - what is your answer ?

As noted - I had no problem with the thread title.

IDontEatFriedTurtle · 09/08/2018 09:59

I might report that post and ask MNHQ to change it to that roger!

OP posts:
IDontEatFriedTurtle · 09/08/2018 09:58

I do think it's interesting that @mnhq let goady MRAs on the site to tell us that women are just basically inept because we didn't' make anything but if he had said the exact same thing about any other marginalised group he'd be POOF gone. Why is it that we accept sexism as not so bad?

Why not ask why there weren't more black people in universities in the American south in 1830? the mind boggling stupidity of MRAs and the fact they aren't here to discuss feminism or parenting means that should be booted off. They are here purely on the windup I don't get it.

RogerAllamsFangirl · 09/08/2018 09:54

Thread title should be edited again to say that "Goat dies after being raped by eight men and Men complain it makes them look bad."

IDontEatFriedTurtle · 09/08/2018 09:49

I know I can't thread police, but I would beg all of you to just ignore the MRAs please. They fucking love it when you engage. If they need mummies to chat to they can leave their basement and hassle their own mothers.

Apropos of nothing, it's my belief that Kleenex will never go out of business.

I agree

Why is it, every time we have a thread about male violence, people come on and tie themselves in knots trying to excuse it or minimise it or act like it's ok really because many thousands of years ago men actually did something useful? Even people like Upton who has admitted her partner was DIRECTLY AFFECTED by male violence is still minimising it with NAMALT!

It's so tiresome. Men need to stop getting defensive and start doing something about their violence and aggression. And women need to stop trying to preserve men's feelings with NAMALT!

FermatsTheorem · 09/08/2018 09:36

You're probably right, Clarice. I think it might have been Atwood.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 09/08/2018 09:12

I thought the quote was Margaret Atwood - not 100% sure now..

Bringing up male on male violence to obfuscate male violence against women is very close to advocating 'women as human shields'.

FermatsTheorem · 09/08/2018 09:00

Yeah, but the point is, Upton, who's doing the glassing, bottling, head stamping, etc? It's not women.

The original quote (which I think was Dworkin) was specifically about the asymmetry between the sexes. It goes something along the lines of "Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them."

It may well be the case that in addition to being afraid that women might laugh at them, men are also (with good reason) afraid that other men will physically assault them. But it's irrelevant to a feminist analysis of the asymmetry in the power relations between men and women. Male on male violence is indeed a terrible thing, but that's not what's being talked about here.

UptonSnodbury · 09/08/2018 08:52

Men fear:getting laughed at by women, or having to pay child support to women

I'd say that getting stabbed, bottled, head stamped on, pint glass in the face etc are bigger worries and things that mainly happen to men. Of course, domestic violence is equally horrible but it's not like men don't suffer their fair share of assaults. For example, my partner had his nose broken by a headbutt after accidentally spilling a drunk guy's pint when he was in his 20s. Still looks a bit wonky lol.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/08/2018 07:50

Animal abuse is certinly not a new thing.
I lived in the counry as a child, over 50 years ago and there were reports then locally of animals being tortured and mutilated; it's just the sexual details were not spoken of, until I reached adulthood.

I remember being shocked about 35 years ago, when a volunteer from a local animal welfare charity told me they had to report to social services any torture or sexual abuse of an animal, if there were children in the home.

The risk factor for child abuse in a home where there is severe animal abuse has evidently been known for a long time.
It is just that knowledge of that risk is spreading more now.

FermatsTheorem · 09/08/2018 07:43

bewilderness the use of the word for women doing calculations goes back even further. Prior to electronic computers, in the 19th century the Admiralty used human mathematicians to work through the complex algorithms needed to draw up tide tables - and many were women home workers, who would get a bundle of calculations to be carried out through the post, sit at home doing them in odd moments, then post the results back. It was a very "female-friendly" job for the time. It could be done from home, in odd bits of time in between one's other duties.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/08/2018 07:08

Men fear: getting laughed at by women, or having to pay child support to women

Women fear: getting raped or murdered by men, their children being raped or murdered by men.

Men are indeed the majority in the police and armed forces
They (sometimes) protect women from violent crimes committed by other men and have very bravely defended the country against being attacked by the armed forces, mostly men, of other countries.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/08/2018 07:03

2 women per week in the UK murdered by their male partners.
So many more women raped or beaten by men

Men are at far lower risk of assault in the home, or beung murdered by their partner
... unless that partner is also a man
