Hi all,

IW is on Loose Women in a few moments. I think she is going to discuss GRA. Apologies if a thread has already been started.

India will flog themselves to the highest bidder. India sees themself as a “real woman” and wants that distinction made clear from the dodgy men in frocks brigade. Then India gambled and lost heavily with CBB where India thought they would wow the general public and have no need of the LGBT borg. India then proceeded to suck up to the likes of Paris Lees to beg forgiveness and acceptance. Now time has passed and India has just had ffs and the furore with Jess Bradley snd the sexual assaults on women prisoners - India is feeling strong enough to reject yhe LGBT borg once again. Good luck India - right, heading off to peek at India’s twitter feed!

Did you listen to India Willoughby on Julia Harley Brewer's show with Justine Roberts earlier this year in April?

It was just after Justine Roberts had made the public announcement that MN would uphold discussion here despite attempts by trans rights activists to shut this down.
www.thetimes.co.uk/article/mumsnet-founder-justine-roberts-transgender-activists-try-to-curb-free-speech-on-site-z3sr3nf6q?shareToken=b2eb62822dd26aecc0f88653978ed23a

It is really worth watching:

The PN article written by India Willoughby (linked above) came out very shortly afterwards comparing Mumsnetters to Nazis etc

India was also unhappy that Julia H-B did not find evidence of the transphobic 'hatred and ridicule that festers' on the FWR board as described by IW.

IW used to be 'sensible' on this issue and try and make the distinction between transsexuals and crossdressers and such, then they got piled on by TRAs IIRC and they decided to start championing self ID. I guess India realises that Bradley can single handedly demolish this ridiculous movement, and doesn't want to be caught up in all of that so the distancing starts again. As its fairly clear to most people that when the backlash comes, it won't be predators who get it, it will be blamed on transsexual people.

I thik India made some decent points actually.

placemats · 07/08/2018 17:29

And all the while IW was screaming that she was a woman.

placemats · 07/08/2018 17:28

IW having a go at Amanda Barrie was just a disgusting piece of male entitlement as ever you did see.

Shocking behaviour.

WarmWishes · 07/08/2018 16:59

I know very little about IW, apart from the hairy leg interview on woman's hour and was appalled at BBC's treatment of Jenny after she wrote that article. I have only a blurry recollection of her being on CBB. Must google and see what she did.

Whilst she might be someone who's character can be picked apart, at least her appearance on the show allowed the subject of the GRA be discussed on a mainstream platform. It also allowed Nadia or was it Saira to ask if the GRA means that anyone can use any changing room, regardless of whether they have undergone any kind of transition whatsoever? The panel seemed to be overtly or implicitly sending the message that this is worrying. So a mainstream show, with mainstream hosts, using clear and uncomplicated language highlighted an issue that is currently being dismissed as only the concern of hate filled terfs. It would be hard to label Gloria Hunniford as a terf icon.

I think this can only be a good thing. Hopefully there will now be many more people, that will be aware that an act is intended to be passed that will effect them or their loved ones. If mainstream shows keep it on their agenda then people will start to find out and it will filter into the public consciousness. That is of course assuming the panel discussing it aren't a panel of mysoginists, who agree trans rights trump women's rights.

LizzieSiddal · 07/08/2018 16:39

I actually think the whole discussion (apart from the 'puberty blockers don's cause harm, rubbish), was really positive. We had a Dr on the side of caution and common sense!

Datun · 07/08/2018 16:21

I seem to remember the last time India publicly wanted to grade trans people in terms of their authenticity as women, was right after another transwomen discredited the whole movement? Although I can't remember who.

I'm sure there was a thread about it on here. And the general feeling was they were trying to distance themselves from the 'less credible' transwomen.

It would be funny if it wasn't so insulting.

SwearyG · 07/08/2018 16:03

IW doesn’t have a GRC anyway (said it would be like carrying a Star of David in ones handbag) so I don’t understand IW’s issue with the legalities of how it’s done. As a refusenik IW certainly has a real want to keep people out of a club IW isn’t even in.

placemats · 07/08/2018 15:28

Why does India's twitter pic look like she's a 20 year old? Excuse me dear, but you are in your 50s!

Reality and India don't seem to go hand in hand.

And her disgusting behaviour on CBB will not be forgotten.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 07/08/2018 15:07

I'm amazed that IW gets to be on TV again after their performance on cbb. It would have killed any lesser persons career.

I agree with others that IW will say anything they think will get them the most attention. They'll be writing something contradicting themselves by the end of the week.

I don't think IW is the best advertisement for TS in women's spaces either. They way they behaved on cbb knowing the cameras were on them, was appalling.

WarmWishes · 07/08/2018 14:57

That interview gives me a slight slither of hope. Although not the transing of children part. I hope more mainstream programmes start discussing it.

CoolCarrie · 07/08/2018 14:55

Maybe India is thinking with her female brain cells?

busyboysmum · 07/08/2018 14:36

That's very interesting.

Yes would appear IW is very savvy and aware of the tide turning on this one.

I think the dangers of allowing self id are clear. No-one has ever had a problem with transsexuals until now they've been hijacked by this very aggressive trans lobby who are trying to make everything meaningless.

I agree with IW. It's a massive step to take and should not be de-medicalised. It is so important to have gatekeeping to prevent abuse.

R0wantrees · 07/08/2018 14:18

IW needs to be asked about her change of position.

NameChangedAgain18 · 07/08/2018 14:15

IW sees how IW will be affected by public backlash against the likes of Jess Bradley flashing their cock in the women’s changing rooms. Long and short of it.

WomblingWoman · 07/08/2018 14:07

I have to wonder what's made IW change her position - and it certainly has changed.

Does IW see the tide turning? Has the JB suspension and blog had a weight on this?

beldaran · 07/08/2018 14:04

Well that's an interesting tweet from India.

R0wantrees · 07/08/2018 13:49

I can't imagine a male journalist/celebrity BB contestant who wrote an article in the last six months accusing Mumsnet & Justine Roberts of the things India did in the PN one above not being asked about it on Loose Women.

In fact I'd be amazed given the perceived demographics if Loose Women (or This Morning) would have them on to discuss anything else.

Sarahconnor1 · 07/08/2018 13:48

As certain as night following day. Hi Christine 👋
The IW pile on begins, with a extra dig at MN on the side.

IW on Loose Women
HmmWell · 07/08/2018 13:44

I note IW did not mention feminists on LW, why the change?

India Willoughby 24th April 2018 Pink News
Opinion
'Britain’s rampant transphobia has me worried for my life'

"Last year, I attended an event with lots of other LGBT people at Downing Street, where Theresa May promised to make the lives of trans people safer and easier, with the implementation of a new Gender Recognition Act. A key point of which will be allowing trans people to legally self-identify as a man or woman, without jumping through numerous bureaucratic hoops.

I totally get why many women might have concerns about this, given there have been so many ridiculous over-the-top debates where the scenario of sex-offender in a dress is trotted out.

It just doesn’t bear up to scrutiny though. Honestly. Self-identification in no way incentivises someone to commit a sex offence. It doesn’t make it easier or more likely.

Waving a piece of paper or shouting “I’m a woman” is not going to buy any leniency from the police or courts.

I admit – I wasn’t convinced about self ID myself to begin with, but the evidence from around the world is irrefutable. I was categorically wrong, and fell for the hysteria.

Portugal, Ireland, Norway, Columbia, Malta, Belgium, Denmark and Argentina have or are adopting the same legislation – and there have been no spikes is assaults.

Women’s areas will not become dangerous places when the Gender Recognition Act is passed.

At our garden party, Mrs May admitted her party’s reputation on LGBT matters was poor, but promised that was going to change.

We all clinked glasses, ate cucumber sandwiches and had our photo taken with the PM.

Nothing has happened.

The act has stalled through pressure from hardline feminist groups, who see all trans women as potential rapists in dresses.

Cabinet minister Lis Truss has now tweeted her support for Mumsnet, despite the site hosting rampant transphobia. She needs hauling in to the PM’s office – and Theresa May needs to keep her promise about protecting trans people.

And where’s Amber Rudd, the government’s Women’s and Equalities Minister, in this? What has she got to say about about this persecution of a tiny group of women? The silence is deafening." (continues)

and as a journalist, which she often stresses, I think India really should be challenged about her statements

OlennasWimple · 07/08/2018 13:40

Was the panel less gushing than last time?

I'd always pegged Janet Street-Porter as a sensible, take no prisoners type woman, but even she joined in the discussion last time nodding along to IW's "hormone wash" explanation of transsexualism, and cooing about dating experiences

CoolCarrie · 07/08/2018 13:38

Yes, it does seem to be all or nothing as you say Datun.
What health care does India mean? Mental health or physical health?
Male to female could still have prostate problems, just as female to male could still have issues with ovarian cancer I would imagine, or am I wrong there?

HmmWell · 07/08/2018 13:38

Apart from misleading information about puberty blockers, IW has been quite fair in that interview. Not too much me me me either this time.

Well done LW and IW.
