"Transphobic protesters" at Pride

I know this is old news now, and I'm just starting this thread as a bit of a rant (sorry) but I have just seen an article on my work intranet about "supporting the T in LGBT" and it has got me irritated.

It talks about Pride being disrupted by "transphobic protesters" but nothing at all on who they were or why they were protesting. This is in the context of an article posted by my work's LGBT+ Network.

Like I said, I don't expect to go over all the old ground again, but I just need to vent as I can't in real life.

(PS - namechanged for this as I doubt my GC views would go down well at work. I post fairly regularly on here not under this name)

It's a while since I left the world of work but is that the sort of thing you would expect to have on your intranet now? Ok if you work for Stonewall or similar but in an organisation outside of that?

I'm an ex Labour voter - now politically homeless thanks to their stance on the trans issue, plus the rampant antisemitism that's been displayed.

TransplantsArePlants · 03/08/2018 19:48

That's the other accusation:

We're all 'right wing'

No - lots of us a lefties who've woken up (in my case recently) to misogyny in every political party

It was a shame to see this in my workplace. If I wasn't on MN I would think the protesters really were bigoted individuals who had a conservative and regressive agenda. Which was not the case at all.

And yes, lots of trans ally stuff on the intranet too.

Thanks for letting me vent!

I just think the people who are pushing this agenda need to reintroduce some common sense, and start an actual discussion.
We all know that there is always going to be such a thing as biological sex - so we have to deal with it honestly. And males will always be different to females. So homosexuals should not be forced into rethinking their orientation to now include what would (in effect) be a form of heterosexuality (based on biological sex) or be called bigots.

This is the issue that ignited my feminism. As things progressed I then became a radfem. 0-60 in 50 tweets Grin

Doing a good job of recruiting for a reinvigorated women's liberation movement as well Smile

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 03/08/2018 19:29

Agreed they are alienating their allies faster than they can recruit them atm

Agerbilatemycardigan · 03/08/2018 19:28

They even named Anne Ruzylo as one of the protesters. She wasn't even there!

The outright lies that were written about those women were appalling. I was cheering them on. I think they showed a lot of guts to do what they did.

TransplantsArePlants · 03/08/2018 19:21

The fuss, publicity and lies about these 8 women is really extraordinary. The TRAs are pushing back hard. And because they are doing that it has drawn attention to them in ways I sincerely hope they come to regret

The irony is that they had a lot of trans allies, a majority of whom were women such as myself. They managed to piss them off so mightily, with all of their demands, aggression and policing of language that those same women are now hugely GC and have become radfems. They've really shot themselves in the foot over this.

R0wantrees · 03/08/2018 16:33

There's been a concerted call for trans-allies.
