According to the Associate Editor of Spiked! online magazine, Joanna Williams, we're not at risk, as so many feminists are in positions of power now.

Anyone else wondering if Joanna Williams is a nom de plume for a bloke?

Just in case posters want to refer to gender identity enthusiasts as identitarians, that term is already taken as referring to far-right and white nationalist movements.

IJustHadTo Libertarians are not necessarily explicitly anti-feminist, but they’re highly individualistic in their worldview and reject government as far as they possibly can. Since women need a raft of government measures to ensure we’re not completely subjugated by men and disadvantaged by our biology, libertarian philosophy isn’t really compatible with feminism, IMO.

Many of these comments are focused on the gender of the writer. I find that to be irrelevant to this article. Although women find connection through experiences of mistreatment, the reality is that not all women have the same opinion on the issue. This is because they're social and personal aspects are different regarding culture, beliefs, and personality. Many important factors were put into place in this piece of writing, such as realizing the public-health differences or the different levels of poverty. Regardless, violence is everywhere but for those who haven't experienced it, they are most likely part of the 93%-97% population that are not feminists. This common ground allows women to work together in pursuit of a shared goal.

“asking their husband who to vote for.”

I know a (famous) woman in her thirties who votes Tory because her Dad says “they are nice and went to look after everyone”.
She thinks feminists are “throwing women under the bus”.

FloralBunting · 02/08/2018 21:12

Ladies Against Feminism types, too. Conservative Christians with a penchant for Victoriana and women not voting, or,if they do, asking their husband who to vote for. (Sounds ridiculous? Ask me how I know...Wink)

The point is that the Patriarchy has its hooks very firmly embedded into almost all spheres of society. The fact that so many don't see it until it's pointed out is testament to the influential reach it has.

IJustHadToNameChange · 02/08/2018 20:59

I'm not au fait with all the feminist theory or politics, I'm only paddling in the shallow end here.

So..

Libertarians
Identitarians
TRAs
MRAs

and other women are all anti-feminist.

Anyone else I need to watch out for?

Williams not Harris.

Ereshkigal · 02/08/2018 20:14

This is a classic case of women who have attained a level of relative entitlement and equality that the majority of women simply do not experience and probably never will, drawing the ladder up behind them to placate the males they depend on to allow to keep all that privilege."

YY. The libertarians like Harris do it and so do the identitarians, witness that entire shameful Fawcett Society panel.

thebewilderness · 02/08/2018 19:38

More and more MRAs identify as feminists so that they can secure jobs in the media advocating for everyone except women.

This tweet sums it up nicely:

"This is a classic case of women who have attained a level of relative entitlement and equality that the majority of women simply do not experience and probably never will, drawing the ladder up behind them to placate the males they depend on to allow to keep all that privilege."

Women are not at risk from men, apparently....

Honestly my dears, I am so familiar with women being vocally anti-feminist this isn't at all surprising.
It's very much coming from a position of privilege - and the vocalising if these views often confers even more privilege for the woman who prepared to turn a blind eye for the sake of high status among her male colleagues and friends.
I remember so many articles I wrote ripping feminism to shreds and the approval I got from my male acquaintances was very gratifying and affirming. It made me feel even safer, tbh, which I now realize was because I had deflected negative attention away from myself and onto other women.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 02/08/2018 19:06

I've found that too many women who've benefited from previous feminist endeavours and are rich and secure enough to have never faced the prejudice and abuse that affect so many less fortunate women are dismissive. I'm afraid I was pretty glib myself until the reality of the impact of pregnancy, child-care etc on my career made me adjust my world view.

My lovely daughter told me today that she's been telling her equally privileged friends that the feminist struggle is real and necessary. Proud of her but upset that they, apparently, think that it isn't.

ElenOfTheWays · 02/08/2018 18:59

Well. I don't know what world she's living in, but it's not the same one I live in at all. She sounds like a crazy person to me.

nauticant · 02/08/2018 18:59

Yes. I used to be dismissive of Spiked but lately I'm much more aware of the value of there being a plurality of viewpoints in the media. I'm more willing to judge articles according to the content rather than their source. But I do like to have an awareness of the sources so I can know if they have a history of coming out with bonkers stuff.

IJustHadToNameChange · 02/08/2018 18:56

Seriously?

That's a woman?

They seem to operate on a contribution model, I believe anyone can submit for consideration.

They have some decent articles sometimes and some that make me go WTF but I suppose you are going to get that with a range of viewpoints.

nauticant · 02/08/2018 18:50

Sorry, I got that wrong:

as far as Spiked LM were concerned

nauticant · 02/08/2018 18:47

Isn’t spiked a libertarian publication?

Spiked can do the stopped-clock-is-right-twice-a-day routine but it's best not to lose sight of how barking it can be:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiked_(magazine)

The magazine was founded in 2000 after the bankruptcy of its predecessor, Living Marxism (LM) - this was after the predecessor publication accused ITN of lying over war atrocities in the Yugoslav war, as far as Spiked were concerned (on astonishingly flimsy but self-serving evidence) the internment camps and the mass killings there apparently were fabrications.

LastOneDancing · 02/08/2018 18:42

Comments in the article I mean Confused not on this thread.

LastOneDancing · 02/08/2018 18:33

I don't understand the comments? As in, I literally can't understand some of them.

They're banging on about how feminists don't condemn Pakistani rape gangs?? Wtf? Is their point that white men are 'only' letching and threatening violence that's ok because BME men are worse??

My mind is boggling.

Here's the Times big investigation today detailing the risks that many women face from men in their communities:
