So, the horrible news story about an acid attack on a three year old child. I can't be the only one who thought his dad or step-dad would be behind it? How sad is that? My assumption when I first heard about the story was that the dad would be punishing the mother. I know, I know - not all men etc but ffs!

As soon as I heard about this, my first thoughts were of course for the Mum and child, but I knew this was not a crime commited by a stranger, I said this is someone the family know.

I hope the child and Mum are going to be ok, and kept a little safer than they were before. They had sought safety at a refuge apparently.

I see on the news this morning, the father is the lead suspect. It’s possible his accomplices were motivated by payment.

It’s particularly insane to commit a crime like this for the sake of SOMEONE ELSE’S hatred of their partner. It can’t even be judged a “crime of passion” (quotation marks because that’s a fucking ridiculous term and not a real thing)

I immediately thought the same. I just knew it. It would be utterly horrifying whoever the perpetrator was of course. I dread to think what suffering lies ahead for this poor boy who has had his healthy future stolen from him.

Obviously the acid attack is a VERY extreme case, but I do despair at the apparently high numbers of men who see their children not as people but as merely tools for hurting their partner/former partner.

Someone in my family - who had never even been alone with his 4-year-old DD - dragged his wife through a protracted battle for custody when she left. When he lost, he didn’t even keep to the agreed arrangement, and severed all contact with his DD within months.

Also stunned by the involvement of five people in the above. Surely brothers...

Yes, Slapbet - if for some weird reason I thought I had valid reason to carry out something similar, I cannot think of a single friend who would say "ok then!"...

Just shows the mindset of some people doesn't it, I don't have anyone in my life I could call to help me commit atrocities, the fact that one of them had 4 he could call on is very disturbing. He obviously knew what type of people they were because you wouldn't call people and outline that plan if you had doubts they'd say no and call the police would you. It's shocking.

I know - 5 people?! I am assuming the other 4 were his mates or his brothers but ffs - how did so many of them think - yes, this is a perfectly acceptable thing to do ??

First thing I said was I bet the dad was punishing the mother. Had there been an update about the 'motive'? I heard 5 people were involved and I feel sick there are 5 people in the world who think that attacking a baby like that is funny/normal/acceptable/a good idea/whatever it was they thought at the time. How does the idea to do that even come into your head? No wonder people keep calling for death penalty to be reintroduced, how can these 'people' ever integrate into society when they're capable of that level of evil.
