They really don't like or support women do they? Especially women who have the temerity to call men out about abuse:

That article is shocking. Please do start an Aibu post.

On the subject of awful children’s homes, here’s another incredibly depressing and distressing article le from today’s press.

When I was a child we lived cheek-by-jowl with families most of whose boys and men were in Approved School, Borstal, or prison. Many of the women were involved in sex work, shoplifting gangs etc.

My mother was very distressed at the age of some of the girls/boys exposed to or involved in the activities around them. However, such was the reputation and rumoured conditions of Approved Schools or Schools for Wayward Boys and Girls at the time that she couldn't see that the lives of the children would be at all improved if Social Services were involved or the children sent there on an order.

My mother did what she could and I know this caused her a huge amount of moral anguish.

Despite all the rhetoric about safe-guarding, with the intersection of austerity, the Children's Act, on-going abysmal standards at children's homes - decades later, it doesn't feel like anything has improved substantially.

Ereshkigal be my guest. My threads always die within about two posts on AIBU and chat!

Ereshkigal · 26/07/2018 09:25

Wow Red. That article is shocking. The venal, amoral heartless bastards. I think it needs to be in AIBU or Chat, as even many people who don't give a fuck about women's rights would surely care about this?

It doesn't say whether there is going to be any kind of formal investigation that I can see. Just slickly refuted by the company's comms team. I find their response very arrogant.

The Buzzfeed article you MUST read today about children's homes.

OnThisHill · 26/07/2018 09:04

It IS incredible at how women have become politically homeless. For real. Not one mainstream party is for us. Not even the bloody GREEN party Angry

AngryAttackKittens · 26/07/2018 08:40

I never thought I'd be actively opposing the idea of a Labour government. Does my head in, honestly.

GorgonLondon · 26/07/2018 08:35

Labour has become an absolute cesspit of racism and misogyny, and a dictatorship where 'thought crime' of not adhering to the Corbyn cult is punished with violence and threats. I am so, so scared of what will happen if they ever get into government.

RedToothBrush · 26/07/2018 08:33

Sarah Championis quoted today in buzzfeeds utterly revolting and shocking investigation into childrens homes.

What I find fascinating is just how far removed Labour currently are from children's wellbeing with their rights not even on the radar in many cases, and those for whom it is on the radar are being targeted in various ways to get rid of them.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/07/2018 08:33

Almost as if a lot of people have a vested interest in preventing CSA from being investigated, isn't it?

Bowlofbabelfish · 26/07/2018 08:23

Jeez. One bloke calls her akin to a ‘neo fascist murderer.’

A couple of those kids who were abused were actually murdered by the gangs that abused them.

The vitriol healed on anyone, but especially a woman, who tries to prevent or investigate CSA is astonishing.

TerfAndSerf · 26/07/2018 03:25

Sajid Javed has pledged support for Sarah Champion on Twitter and The Times has reported that he's ordered research to be done into the ethnic background of grooming gangs and why those of Pakistani origin are over represented.

Sorry I don't have a share token.

OnThisHill · 26/07/2018 02:33

Rotherham does not equal Yorkshire!

Sarah Champion has a majority of 11, 000, increased by 4% & twice the votes of the Tories.

I would be very surprised, if Momentum were to make this about race, which it looks like - that Sarah would not prevail.

She has done phenomenal work on this issue and is very well respected, largely but not just because of this.

I stand with Sarah Champion

I don't want to be too outing, but there are certain male labour counsellors in my area who don't do anything, but because they are able to rally support from their religious group, they are pretty much guaranteed seats in the council. It is very troubling that religious groups appear to have more sway in labour than unions. But mustn't talk about it of course.

Aneurin · 25/07/2018 23:08

I usually just lurk on here as I lack the intelligence to offer anything constructive to the debate, but this has spurred me on. I've cancelled my membership of Labour and told the misogynistic anti-Semites exactly why.

arranfan · 25/07/2018 22:04

Labour. For the men, not the few.

or,

Labour for the men - not the few.

(To be understood that Labour is an exhortative verb there).

Crazy3 · 25/07/2018 22:00

Pester powerSmile

Crazy3 · 25/07/2018 21:59

That’s what I’ve just done anyway. Let’s see her offered her front bench position back.

Ereshkigal · 25/07/2018 21:53

It's alarming how thoroughly indoctrinated young people have been into the idea that being part of a group that's discriminated against means you can't ever be at fault, and if you are it's better that it isn't talked about too much.

YY.

enoughisenough12 · 25/07/2018 21:43

We are seeing a massive increase in the demonisation of women daring to highlight issues of safeguarding. It is unforgivable for political parties to collude in silencing women about this issue. If the safety and welfare of children isn't the highest priority in a society, then that society is finished - and at the moment the rights of men (all sorts of men) are being actively promoted over the rights and safety of children in a sinister and deeply oppressive manner.

I actually heard women I know taking the "she's a disgusting racist and there's no other reason anyone could want to talk about the grooming gangs" line. It's alarming how thoroughly indoctrinated young people have been into the idea that being part of a group that's discriminated against means you can't ever be at fault, and if you are it's better that it isn't talked about too much.

QuarksandLeptons · 25/07/2018 21:33

“What about writing to our own M.P. To say how disgusted we are at Sarah’s treatment. Also that if they want our vote she had better be offered her job back.”

Great idea. I’m going to do this

Crazy3 · 25/07/2018 21:27

Gacapa · 25/07/2018 20:16

A family member works in child protection in Bradford and she has pleaded with her son and his wife to move elsewhere. She is adamant that her granddaughters will not be safe. The CSE of white girls is rife according to her. She looks haunted.

My experience is that the Labour Party relies heavily on the votes from Muslim communities. It’s out of the question to stir anything up.

Indeed, Yorkshire is fucked.
