Sorry I am seething. Just watched SC give a talk at HoC on Women in Politics - What next. All pretty unremarkable but at the end she says she recognises her privilege as a middle class woman and as a 'cis' woman.
Does she not realise that she has just declared the 'privilege' of every single woman who isnt trans. Nice one.

Yes the “peer on peer assault “ tweets. I was horrified by those. Lost any lingering respect for Stella at that point. She appears to be one of those women who really cares if men like her or not. She’s also not terribly clever, I wouldn’t vote for her.

Popchyk · 24/07/2018 21:03

I wonder if Stella saw GLAAD shelling out £14K for Dawn Butler to go to LA for the GLAAD awards.

Perhaps Stella also fancies a trip.

Bejazzled · 24/07/2018 20:27

She is no ally of women.

Imnobody4 · 24/07/2018 20:12

What really gets me is there was no necessity to use the word at all.

'Such a shame Stella buys into this trans ideology and uses phrases like 'cis privilege' because on all other counts she is definitely the sort of MP we want in parliament imo'

I agree. It's really galling. She should be a ally for women on this issue but sadly it doesn't seem to be the case

nauticant · 24/07/2018 17:46

I think “privilege” is a useful concept but as soon it it is applied it causes problems. As something to be used in a hierarchy it readily gets weaponised and those best equipped to use it against others are those with considerable privilege already.

Agreed ... there is no need for Creasy to use the silly term 'cis' either ... these are choices she is making of her own free will.

Ereshkigal · 24/07/2018 11:48

I very much doubt that even Bromentum forced Creasy into sharing a Vogue photo shoot commemorating womens suffrage with Paris Lees.

Quite. I see that whole thing as trolling women. Creasy is a disgrace on this issue.

R0wantrees · 24/07/2018 09:41

I have wondered to what extent politicians supportive of the transgender community are aware of the allegations of trans misogyny by transwomen against transmen.

terryleather · 23/07/2018 13:26

Cis Privilege posits that someone like Caitlyn Jenner is more oppressed than a child bride or victim of FGM.

It's utter bollocks. Great swinging hairy ones at that.

BettyDuMonde · 23/07/2018 11:25

Decisions are made by whoever is in the room at the time and with stuff like this affecting women we need to ensure that women have appropriate representation. Surely Creasy knows that?

A Lib Dem recently answered a panel question stating that as TWAW it’s fine for parliament to be 50% women - which is actual bollocks because no transwoman is ever going to be consigned to the ‘mummy track’ or overlooked for a job entirely because they are 30ish and might want maternity leave in the next 10 years.

Cis-privilege? My arse.

LangCleg · 23/07/2018 11:18

Just stick on Pulp's Common People and have done with it.

LOL! Quite!

Seriously though: Stella is a lost cause. There is no argument that will convince her. She knows them all already and has deliberately rejected them. There is no point even trying with her.

RedToothBrush · 23/07/2018 11:02

Cis privilege
What does that even mean?

It means being willfully blind to issues outside safe middle class experience and trying to appear as if you understand.

Just stick on Pulp's Common People and have done with it.

FloralBunting · 23/07/2018 10:57

I think 'cis privilege' is a telling phrase coined by the TRA bunch that reveals all the usual appropriation, resentment and self-centredness.

It appropriates the notion of 'white privilege' or even 'male privilege', both of which are predicated on an understanding that a certain group, higher up the foodchain socially, have advantages denied to those lower down.
It is really hard to make the case that women as a worldwide class have huge advantages, so 'female privilege' would fall very flat, but the use of the genuinely othering word 'cis' means that a certain section of the male population can squat on this notion of being the most oppressed class of humans ever by suggesting that actual women have advantages they aren't even aware of.

Unpacking that is instructive, because most women, when presented with this idea, are baffled about what advantages they have that they didn't know about. And it does seem to boil down to being able to have 'a room of one's own', the ability to maintain clear boundaries, to say 'no'.

The kind of people who would have a problem with women retaining those 'privileges' are precisely the ones we don't want in our spaces.

Floisme · 23/07/2018 10:54

flintyminty · 23/07/2018 10:49

This sums up Stella and all the other 'woke' female politicians

"This is a classic case of women who have attained a level of relative entitlement and equality that the majority of women simply do not experience and probably never will, drawing the ladder up behind them to placate the males they depend on to allow to keep all that privilege."

Popchyk · 23/07/2018 10:43

How many male politicians talk about their cis male privilege?

Cos I don't recall Boris Johnson ever saying how privileged he was not to be trans.

Nor Jeremy Corbyn.

Nor Vince Cable.

enoughisenough12 · 23/07/2018 10:42

With people like Stella Creasy (who IS a well respected MP and does a whole lot for women) we have to focus on the issues of danger. The actual evidence about transgender groups flouting Working Together, the sexual assaults on women in prisons, the trans groups / political parties advocating for the rights of Ian Huntley, "Marie Dean' etc. All the things on the "this never happens ' list that clearly evidence the harm being caused to children and women.
There's no point in arguing about cis or TWAW with her. She has the lefty blokes from Momentum breathing down her neck and she's just not going to go there. They're too hostile and dangerous to her position.
It's frustrating when powerful women dismiss dangers to the vulnerable because they're enthralled by powerful lobby groups - but twas ever thus. Just keep on highlighting the indefensible - after all, we are being provided with the evidence on a daily basis.

ReluctantCamper · 23/07/2018 10:38

I'm pretty gender conforming, not because I'm cool with my gender but because I like an easy life (and I like having sex with men)

However I don't regard that as a 'privilege'

ReluctantCamper · 23/07/2018 10:36

Cis privilege

What does that even mean?

Boggling here

ByDayByNight · 23/07/2018 10:07

So not only privileged but pulling up the drawbridge as well.

What a disappointment.

Floisme · 23/07/2018 10:05

Thank you Jacky. So not only privileged but pulling up the drawbridge as well.

JackyHolyoake · 23/07/2018 09:59

Creasy was selected from an all woman shortlist:

Floisme · 23/07/2018 09:55

Does anyone know if she was selected through an all women shortlist?
