I had an interesting conversation with my husband about this, and he told me about the period he went through in his teens when he questioned his sexuality. He eventually realized that his few crushes on men were actually deep admiration and wanting to be those men, which is an entirely different phenomenon to wanting to jump their bones.

Everyone's sexuality is pretty individual, obviously, but this jokey admission that Riley makes is rather telling about their motivations, tbh.

LonginesPrime · 25/07/2018 22:32

As a lesbian, I can't say I've ever experienced confusion over whether I fancy a woman or just want to be her.

ThistleAmore · 22/07/2018 23:55

The biggest problem that Riley has is that most people 'clock' that they are biologically male, because people read other people based on a set of markers that are so intrinsic we can barely measure them.

They're not being homophobic or transphobic: their lizard brains are literally saying 'wugh?'.

Riley is and always will be a biological male and biological females (be they straight, gay or bi) will read them so. They might be polite and use their chosen pronouns, but they can't halt the innate 'wugh?'.

I wish this fud and their American teeth would f••k off to the far side of f••k......

Voice0fReason · 22/07/2018 23:06

I can't watch Riley's videos any more. They make me want to claw my face off. So cringeworthy and so delusional.

NotTerfNorCis · 22/07/2018 23:04

Haven't watched all of it, but Riley is worried about encountering 'homophobic bullshit' if people find out about the girlfriend. Surely for people to be 'homophobic' they would first have to know Riley was trans? So Riley's first potential problem would be transphobia, not homophobia. Or does Riley believe nobody will notice Riley is not a born female until Riley mentions it?

FloralBunting · 22/07/2018 22:52

Och, could we not? I don't think I can cope with giving all this attention to the shinyqueer pillock. I got as far as Riley doing that weird highly pitched shit about how grateful they are that no one asks who is the man in the relationship and my eyes rolled so far back into my head that my optic nerve now looks like a pretzel.

It’s rumoured that Riley also identifies as a member of 90s one-hit wonders, Hanson.

MMMBop.

FloralBunting · 19/07/2018 23:21

It's the fake authoritative tone, I think. I've spent plenty of time with teenaged and twenty something youngsters who genuinely think they know almost everything and are very keen to tell you all about it.
Plus so many of these YouTubers are like the shiny popular kids and they really trade on that element of being part of the cool gang.

SlothSlothSloth · 19/07/2018 23:16

It’s ridiculous to think Riley lives off this. Everything she does is so... stupid? Just nothing of any value there at all. No thought and no new perspectives. And no honesty, even.

Someone like Contra Points - I may disagree with them on most things, but at least there’s some intellect there, and the videos are entertaining and well-made. How on earth did Riley get so big? She has nothing.

FloralBunting · 19/07/2018 23:09

I think Riley is just keen to appropriate any and all identity cookies they can, and has probably heard quite a bit of stuff from other YouTubers and thinks this kind of simpering bullshit will actually gain more of the kudos Riley thinks they're entitled to.

Riley has learned that they can say whatever they want, as long as they say it really fast, use lots of jargon and point to their patreon at the end.

So yeah, Riley is Queen of the under bridge dwellers alright.

hipsterfun · 19/07/2018 23:09

Riley has this expression like ‘what do I have to say or do before the penny drops!’.

In an earlier video, I noticed Riley states that Riley doesn’t wish to go into personal medical detail. One can only speculate why that might be.

SlothSlothSloth · 19/07/2018 23:07

I don’t think Riley is actively trolling, because she actually went so far as to have facial surgery. Her inconsistencies are accounted for by the fact she clearly hasn’t thought very deeply about, well, anything really.

I will say her surgery has been quite successful and I can believe she might get homophobic looks and so on when she’s with her GF. I wouldn’t necessarily 100% know she was trans - certainly not at a glance. Also it’s possible that some of what she’s interpreting as homophobia is actually transphobia, from people who can tell.

The part about her feeling pressured to be attracted to boys is a clear lie, though. If you google old pictures of her you will see that even just a few years ago she was presenting as fully masculine. Who are these imaginary people who were pressuring a straight teenage boy to go out with other boys? It’s simply impossible that this is true and it’s an insult to lesbians who really did and do experience this.

Dragoncake · 19/07/2018 23:00

I agree about the trolling. There are so many inconsistencies with previous videos. In this one Riley says that your sexual orientation is inherent (paraphrase). Which is good. But not what Riley said in that previous video when Riley reprimanded lesbians for not considering transwomen as sexual partners.

UglyCathKidstonBag · 19/07/2018 22:49

Riley has to be trolling at this point. It is so inflammatory.

donajimena · 19/07/2018 22:41

hipster I agree. I think its all an act. It makes me feel bad for the supporters who have commented with their admiration.

PositivelyPERF · 19/07/2018 22:35

I think you all need to calm down and stop picking on poor Riley. Here’s a picture of some lovely ladies, to calm you down. 😇

hipsterfun · 19/07/2018 22:24

Yeah, I think Riley’s trolling. Riley’s not even trying to pretend otherwise anymore.

Vickyyyy · 19/07/2018 21:26

I'll just mention the bit where he starts saying how veh hard it was growing up because society expected him to fancy boys but he didn't.

Hmm

I have thought this possible for a while now, but any chance Riley is a troll of the Danielle Muscato 'women who don't think I am a woman can suck my dick' type?

Wherismymind · 19/07/2018 21:13

Gncq

I've just read a few blogs and comments from trans women saying they are dating another trans woman because lesbians refuse to see them as real woman and because they have a shared experiance with trans women.

Oh dear. What a silly sausage.

Gncq · 19/07/2018 21:06

Whereismymind
No they don't date other transwomen, they really don't.
RJD and the like are attracted to females. When asked would they date a woman with a penis the answer is usually no because penis is too "triggering" or other BS.

Some TW obviously do date other TW but it's more rare. Basically gay or bisexual blokes (gay as in the male-on-male way not the male-on-female way).

pombear · 19/07/2018 20:57

A low-budget, much less articulate dissection of Riley's film than Magdalen would do:

Oh Riley. You still have a penis.

Despite how fast you talk, we can see through your falsehoods.

You're a male-bodied person, potentially with gender dysphoria, who likes female-bodied people.

That means you can travel with your penis passport in all those places you're worried about without being assaulted or beaten, because you're a male-bodied person dating (I believe) a female-bodied person. Your passport, literally, will be your out from being legally punished for holding hands with your girlfriend in those places.

In Oz, probably not. Though lots of people get odd looks. Which isn't right. We should campaign for noone to get odd looks (not because they think they're a lesbian, but because no one should get odd looks). Because no one, anywhere, should be beaten or judged for how they present, regardless of their biological sex.

(PS the odd looks probably aren't because they think you're lesbian, even though lesbians get harrassment, but because they're reading lots of social cues and trying to work them out. male dating female, but presenting as female )

If you tie up your hair and wear gender-non-stereotypical clothes and walk around with your girlfriend, at the least, people may wonder. But they'd most likely read you as male person with female person, male person choosing signifiers that are outside the 'norm' of male people.

You're straight. Many males who break the norms of what people think of as 'male' get funny looks. It's shit. If you're choosing to adopt the stereotypical clothing and behaviour of females, you still shouldn't be judged.

We should shout and campaign against it. You should be able to be proud and happy to walk alongside your girlfriend. That doesn't make you a lesbian.

And seeing as I'm assuming you weren't trans as a young teenager, I really can't see that you were pressurised into liking boys. The heteronormativity you speak of - that affects gay biological females and males - would presume you were pressurised into liking girls? (Erm,which you do now!) You're appropriating.

PS you can go to bars and clubs even if you don't drink. They're not 'non-drinking-exclusive' places. 7up and lime and soda are a good alternative. Are we to see a new 'alcohol exclusionary radical drinkers' category so your feelz are even more hurt? AERDs?

Oh, and by the way, you yourself say you haven't run into anyone saying they hate gay people. Just the rolling eyes and shoving into people. That's horrible, and shouldn't happen,

But you're not gay. You are a male-bodied person who is breaking the stereotypes of what it means to be male, dating a female-bodied person.

You're straight.

In a world that doesn't like confusion. So I can see why you may experience prejudice and that's not on.

But you're straight.

Sorry about that for the unicorn spit and all.
