I wholly reject the term cis woman

I wholly reject the term cis woman (or anything approximating it, be that ciswoman, cis-woman, cisgender etc.).

I do not need a qualifier or prefix to my womanhood.

Using that prefix to describe me is an insulating act of misogyny.

I do not identify with gender. I believe gender exists as a hierarchical social construct to force us into not only stereotypes but submission.

Anyone who uses the term “cis” to describe me is discriminating against my biology.

I will push back against the use of it until the day I die. I will write to newspapers, TV channels and other outlets telling them exactly why it is offensive each and every time I see it used. I will report its use as hate speech and discrimination each time I see it used.

I wholly reject the term cis woman. I am a woman.

I also hate the term and will rail against it whenever I hear it.

Ereshkigal · 19/07/2018 09:08

It is also so obviously a power trip - look at the language used around it - so often massively aggressive and seeking to dominate and anger women.

This.

Observe how it's used here by our friend Avery:

Vickyyyy · 19/07/2018 09:01

Another who rejects the nonsense term. It assumed I am happy with the stereotypes forced onto me because of my sex (which was observed at birth, not 'assigned', which implies there are just midwives/doctors playing toss the coin)

Its not the same as straight, at all. Straight is something you are. Cis is something you are not. Ontop of that, I read cis woman as 'female woman' which is the only way to actually be a fucking woman! So the female part is just unneeded.

Ereshkigal · 18/07/2018 21:37

Bold fail. Just call it trans bold.

Ereshkigal · 18/07/2018 21:36

You may not identify as straight, but if you don't identify as gay, then you will be labelled heterosexual.

No. It's not that simple. I am not cis. I don't have a gender identity. I don't believe in innate gender identity. Therefore I don't define myself in terms of gender identity ideology. Please call me agender, if you must. So Stonewall defines me as trans. And I might just march at Pride, and take up an LGBT place somewhere. Do you get it yet?

Alternativefacts · 18/07/2018 21:32

Cis is deeply offensive to me because it presumes that I accept gender stereotypes. Fxxx off with that, do these people understand nothing about feminism and gender stereotypes?

It is also so obviously a power trip - look at the language used around it - so often massively aggressive and seeking to dominate and anger women.

artmadnana · 18/07/2018 21:20

I completely agree. I find it arrogant in the extreme when a minority group push women aside with such a prefix.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 18/07/2018 21:09

A male acquaintance said that if anyone tried to call him cis he would 'knock their fucking teeth out'! I was shocked at first but then I thought he will never have to do that, will he, because the TRA chickens just go after women!

RaininSummer · 18/07/2018 21:03

The only person so far to try to call me cis was a transwoman who I politely told to fuck off with the cis. Nobody else there that evening had ever heard the term.

thebewilderness · 18/07/2018 20:53

Cisgender is not some term invented by trans activists to insult women.

Don't be silly! Most Feminists know they lifted it from chemistry to other women. Followers of Genderism admitted it when they first set about popularizing the term and spent thousands of words mansplaining how women have no right to object to the labels they are assigned because science.

I don't have anything to add but there are lots of really interesting posts on this thread. Thanks Smile

WomanInBoots · 18/07/2018 17:36

I find the term derogatory and offensive and would say so to someone that used it. Now I have the words to explain why if pushed to do so. I am not cis because I don't accept the gender stereotype attributed to my sex as real or applicable to me... so fuck right off marra. K?

VickyEadie · 18/07/2018 16:24

It is an academic term en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cisgender used to avoid othering trans people

So, let me get this right: trans activists determine their own labels, but the rest of us have to have the ones they decide to give us? I have to be 'othered' with this cis label, despite declaring I don't accept it?

UglyCathKidstonBag · 18/07/2018 16:09

Been talking back and forth on email about this with a colleague and now know she is firmly on the GC side!
“If someone can identify within the narrow parameters of gender, then I can identify outside and as such cast aside the homophobic and religious rhetoric of identity politics.”

WE WHOLLY REJECT THE TERM CISWOMAN.

I reject it too. I don't identify as a woman, I am one.

I will not tick a 'cis' column on a form. Ever.

HattieAndHerBoy · 18/07/2018 14:48

Me too. I reject it because its complete and utter nonsense.

BrevilleTron · 18/07/2018 14:46

I am woman. Not 'cis' anything. I have ovaries.
If it has or has ever had a penis it's a man.

Exactly this. I am a woman.

LangCleg · 18/07/2018 14:28

you will be labelled

I thought it was a mortal sin to label other people? Make your mind up.

MaterialReality · 18/07/2018 14:11

You may not identify as straight, but if you don't identify as gay, then you will be labelled heterosexual.

I don't identify as gay. I'm not gay. I'm also not heterosexual.

I'm asexual. The absence of a sexual orientation. Similarly, I do not have a gender identity. You can say that I am 'not trans' but I'm also not 'cis'

It's as accurate as calling me straight because I don't 'identify' as gay, i.e. not at all.

UglyCathKidstonBag · 18/07/2018 13:45

You may not identify as straight, but if you don't identify as gay, then you will be labelled heterosexual.

You might like to reconsider this.
I don’t identify as my sexuality btw, if isn’t a choice I make.

@SarahAr

As Errol has quoted, wiki says cisgender applies to
individuals who have a match between the gender they were assigned at birth, their bodies, and their personal identity

  1. I was not assigned a gender at birth. My sex was recognised. When I have assisted at births, no one assigns a gender or sex do the infant.
  1. I am an adult human female, a woman. Society most commonly imposes the gender stereotypes upon me that include being dainty, linking pink and stroking kittens. I not only reject those stereotypes but I reject the notion of gender at all. How and why am I the “cisgender”?

It’s a nonsense. I have been told I must accept it “because it is academic and Latin”. Well “pseudo” is, I believe of Greek origin.

Hmm

Bisexuals don't exist then?

ginghamstarfish · 18/07/2018 13:34

I reject it too, but why even talk about it? It's not worth wasting words on.
