Is FWR anti feminist?

Amalfimamma · 14/07/2018 18:29

I am risking a ban here, but I feel I need to post this.

As we all know the new guidelines were rolled out and we asked if the 3 strikes policy would be across the board, Justine replied and I've screenshotted her reply below.

Yesterday I was part of a particularly nasty thread where one poster was deleted numerous times for openly racist comments towards the Irish.

I reported the posts and asked if the 3 strikes stance would be taken, as per New guidelines.

The reply was no and the email has been attached.

So. There we have it. Racism is ok on MN. Biology and correct use of the English language is not.

why are the administration only policing trans related comments

Hence the thread.......... 🙄

nd why are the administration only policing trans related comments

Yeah

Id love the answer to that question as well

CocoFlannel9 · 16/07/2018 21:58

I'm not excusing them at all. I'm just pointing out that the trans issue is a much more sensitive one right now. If it isn't, then why are half the topics on this board about trans, and why are the administration only policing trans related comments?

Somerville · 16/07/2018 21:56

Coco you got your arse handed to you because you are either clueless or as goady as fuck. Saying that anti-Irish sentiment is less "topical and inflammatory" than trans issues - when I'd already pointed out the significance of the date. (Google "12th July Northern Ireland" if this means nothing to you.).

HotRocker · 16/07/2018 21:33

If you come on here excusing racist jokes you’re probably not going to get the welcome mat rolled out.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 16/07/2018 20:52

Oh shit sorry coco

Thatll teach me not to press refresh

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 16/07/2018 20:51

Thats advanced search in mumsnet coco

The button is just underneath the title

I just wondered what the google bit was is all Smile

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 16/07/2018 20:46

Coco do you wander into a men's rights forum and expect them to welcome you?? REALLY?

🤨

thebewilderness · 16/07/2018 20:39

Why would you expect a Feminist and Women's Rights board to be welcoming?
Feminism is a political movement, not a social club.

CocoFlannel9 · 16/07/2018 20:34

But half the time I see 'MRA' or 'male troll' directed at anybody who dares to voice an opinion which disagrees with the regulars on here, especially if they are new to this board. It's not very healthy or welcoming to new posters.

thebewilderness · 16/07/2018 20:27

CocoFlannel9

That is just the advanced search button at the top of the page we sometimes use to help identify MRAs quickly and efficiently.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 16/07/2018 20:26

I want to thank Amalfi for starting this thread. I'm a Derry girl, born and bred on the Bogside and common as muck!

I unfortunately lived for four years in England, where I heard every 'joke' under the sun.

The irony is....I was there as a Literacy teacher. I, an Irish person, was teaching English ADULTS how to speak, read and write their own language. I never want to set foot in England again.

CocoFlannel9 · 16/07/2018 20:07

As in googling my username to see the threads I've posted in, which is what many on here seem to do.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 16/07/2018 17:45

Google stalked?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 16/07/2018 17:18

Quoting official reports about some jailed sex offenders abusing the self id process is also verboten

HotRocker · 16/07/2018 17:11

I don’t see this ranking of different types of phobia or prejudice being a vote winner to be honest. If your starting position is that your perceived oppression is more harmful than racism, or sexism, or homophobia, or disablism, or any other phobia or ism, then your immediately alienating large swathes of the population. I can say that I’ve suffered disablism, sexism and homophobia, but I wouldn’t suggest that their affects are any worse than say racism, which I haven’t experienced due to being a white person in a predominantly white country. The insistence that everybody empathise, and sympathise, while completely dismissing, or aggressively denying anyone else’s experiences doesn’t go down well in my experience, with most people anyway. It’s an if you don’t like it then don’t do it to anyone else situation, and I think the vast majority of people feel the same once they get shat on.
I too would be interested to know why @MNHQ feel it’s appropriate to allow posters to repeatedly post racist material without sanction. Even without the backdrop of the trans thing it shouldn’t be acceptable. I’d also like to know why they are holding women on FWR to a higher standard than everyone else. Either a thing is bad and harmful or it isn’t. There should not be a hierarchy of who gets to feel more upset than anyone else, because that’s oppression by its very nature.

CocoFlannel9 · 16/07/2018 17:06

Bit scary though to.be google stalked by people on here for disagreeing with their opinion - as if a new poster wouldn't still be entitled to their own.

CocoFlannel9 · 16/07/2018 17:05

I'm not a new poster btw. I mainly post on AIBU but created new profile as my other one has my surname in it.

Amalfimamma · 16/07/2018 17:02

OrdinaryGirl
I apologise for misunderstanding your post. Ignorance, is easily identified and normally when it's pointed out the offender takes note and doesnt offend again, malice (as in the post linked) is when the offender feigns ignorance and continues to offend when told whats so offending . Ergo 5 deletions in one post.

Flowers we have a long and painful history, from both sides and, unfortunately, we were often pitted against each other like pawns.

And those who used us as pawns are now the "peacemakers" and "statesmen" respected the world over.........

Thank you Amalfi - I have taken that info on board. And apologies for the offence caused. Thanks
The potato gags weren't from me (didn't give further details as too identifying) but know they will have been from ignorance rather than malice. Doesn't excuse it though. I do try to keep abreast of stuff - especially correct terminology - and don't always manage it - I do appreciate your response.

duckfuckduck · 16/07/2018 16:52

I'd also say that my family were subjected to discrimination and hate crime (we were burnt out which is why we left Northern Ireland and moved to England).

It's everyone who carries pain and the hahahaha lets all laugh of the racist shite that gets trotted out from "having a paddy" lolz to how many types of dinner for potatoes to "flegs" as per whichever is your choice is unhelpful (understatement)

Amalfimamma · 16/07/2018 16:51

Not a word. @MNHQ can someone please clarify the guidelines for us ?

OP posts:
Somerville · 16/07/2018 16:46

No-one from HQ has responded, Amalfi; have they to you?

I'm ignoring the troll.

@OrdinaryGirl you are incorrect about the equality act.
The equality and human rights commission says;

"What is race discrimination?
This is when you are treated differently because of your race in one of the situations covered by the Equality Act."
It goes on to clarify:
In the Equality Act, race can mean your colour, or your nationality (including your citizenship).

My family (Irish Catholics) were on the receiving end of direct and vicious discrimination and oppression until about twenty years ago when the GFA was ratified. We are still subject to taunts and hatecrimes, particularly at this time of year. If you have read the thread in question you'll see more detail on this.
