What about other signs in your cycle, like EWCM?

Oh yes, periods are the lovely fluffy side of being female. My mooncup is full of unicorns and fairy dust.

AmazingPostVoices · 15/07/2018 15:39

I wonder if this person had to google period symptoms to know what to look for?

I thought that the description read rather like a teen magazine description of a period.

HotRocker · 15/07/2018 15:37

Internet self-diagnosis is such a dangerous thing.

AmazingPostVoices · 15/07/2018 15:37

Thinking about that article I’m disturbed that the author suggested that gender critical women were challenging the idea of trans women having period because it makes us feel “powerful”.

That indicates an incredible depth of ignorance of the daily realities of managing periods for women all over the world.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/07/2018 15:35

I always wear high heels and dresses and extra make up when I have mine, because I feel like a proper girl.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/07/2018 15:34

Of course they want periods.

We all know periods are glittery and girly and lots of fun, some cramping aside.

SimonBridges · 15/07/2018 15:32

When they first developed the pill (and by they I mean men) it was decided that women would need to have a period every fourth week for their mental health. There is no medical reason for it.

Mogleflop · 15/07/2018 15:31

I wonder what it feels like to try to convince yourself of this stuff.

Maybe it's that "if I can have periods then I'll be a real girl!" thing.

But you must also know it's not true - that periods are necessarily about menstruation, and you can't imagine yourself into one (as I remember well from the endless two week wait). So it can't ever really work deep down.

At what point after jumping into all this stuff do you begin to wish you hadn't? And once it's your entire public persona and community, how do you back down?

LinoleumBlownapart · 15/07/2018 15:18

Exactly to desire period pains is like desiring to be burned with cigarettes. It's a fetish but to suggest that 1. They don't have them 2. They have no idea what it's like to have a period is now considered transphobic. That's why there's so many people willing to back up the madness on twitter. Being accused of being transphobic by pointing out madness puts many off. I don't care personally if someone wants to call me transphobic it won't make it true, just as if they said had a blue face it wouldn't make it real. People born male cannot have periods, fact, that's not transphobic. It doesn't upset or anger me that they have period symptoms. I couldn't care less if they want periods but I don't appreciate them attacking women and calling women transphobic or "terf" or other insults for pointing out the impossible.

We're all transphobic for suggesting it's impossible. So that's us told.

VickyEadie · 15/07/2018 14:55

I don't understand how a period is something to desire anyway confused I'm female but enjoy not having them due to contraception, it doesn't make me feel any less 'womanly' just saves feeling rubbish a few days a month!

That they see it as something to envy proves beyond doubt they've no idea what it is - in fact - like to be a woman.

BounceAndClimb · 15/07/2018 14:30

Well its not just one type of women that bleed, women and women who identify as transgender bleed. But it is still only biological females who bleed so that easily answers that for them..

ErrolTheDragon · 15/07/2018 14:07

The main problem though, is the dismissal of women's bleeding. That small detail is the reason for horrible discrimination against menstruating women and girls - which of course still happens in some cultures - being considered ritually 'unclean'. The lack of sanpro in many countries is a huge practical problem for many women.

Wasn't there some problem a while back with a charity or campaign aimed at helping women in developing countries with this sort of thing being kyboshed by some self-obsessed TRAs branding it trans exclusionary?

OlennasWimple · 15/07/2018 13:51

No, when transmen have periods the narrative is that "it's not only women who bleed". See Toni the Tampon and its creator, Cass Clemmer for details

BounceAndClimb · 15/07/2018 13:31

Placemats how could they argue that?
Its just someone biologically female having a natural body function.

placemats · 15/07/2018 13:03

So if a trans man, has periods is this then transphobic?

That is beyond mad, and so insulting.

I get/got awful period pains. Now awful menopause.

To do with my womb and ovaries and eggs.

Ereshkigal · 15/07/2018 10:59

It's good of you to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I've read far too many identical narratives and skimmed vids, to do the same!

Indeed! Me too.

VickyEadie · 15/07/2018 10:44

Apparently, some of them are trying to argue that period means 'period of time' and so their 'period' of having trapped wind/IBS/nothing IS what women call a 'period'.

Some on another forum just pointed out that some of these deluded people are able to argue simultaneously that women shouldn't ever mention their female biological functions because it's hurtful and exclusionary to transwomen - and claim THEY have periods and freely talk about them.

Bejazzled · 15/07/2018 10:40

Batshit. End of.

SimonBridges · 15/07/2018 10:38

Apropos of nothing did you know that in pre revolutionary France there was a delusion amongst some aristocratics that they had swallowed a glass piano and as such had to be careful to walk sideways through doors in case the broke it.

ThatEscalatedQuickly · 15/07/2018 09:05

They're just from ALL THE OTHER STUFF THAT CRAMPS ON YOUR PERIOD.'

I get bad IBS like symptoms around my period, but they are kicked off by my period and wouldn't happen independently. Seemingly leg and back cramps are also seen as part of the whole period experience based on that thread.

Somehow the actual bleeding, uterine cramps etc are just minor side effects and not, you know, essential components of the whole 'having a period' experience.

Appropriation once more.

SimonBridges · 15/07/2018 08:46

The shits I’m guessing Buntyll.

BuntyII · 15/07/2018 02:15

'Yes, we are aware that the cramps we get are not our uteruses. They're just from ALL THE OTHER STUFF THAT CRAMPS ON YOUR PERIOD.'

What other stuff ConfusedHmm
