I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I read that.

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 13/07/2018 23:17

Perhaps they need to be tagged..?

Just noticing again, where are our familiar posters? From what I can see on this board they're still awake and commenting on other threads about what makes a woman. Just not here. About biology stuff!

Come on people. Join us. Counter our thoughts. Tell us why a transwoman's periods are a very valid thing. Otherwise we're just an echo chamber of females going 'huh, periods, that's a very specific female biology thing. That's one of the things that makes females different from males (even for females whose development makes their periods not happen/happen much more/differently from other females, still about periods - and I'm talking about things like PCOS here, not "oh, I seem to have accidentally developed a penis, hence my periods are different from your periods")!

AngryAttackKittens · 13/07/2018 23:05

Also this is an excellent illustration of why humoring people's delusions isn't kind in the long run. If this person really is experiencing severe abdominal cramping and the various other symptoms they claim to have once a month then something is wrong, and they should see a doctor about it. As long as their belief that they're having a "period" is being validated they're unlikely to do so, which means that whatever is actually wrong is not being addressed.

Namechangedtotellyouthisthing · 13/07/2018 23:05

I have an acquaintance who is a trans woman, I know they haven't yet started hormones or had any surgery as it's fairly recent but apparently they bleed sometimes?! I don't want to be too outing here but they said something along the lines of "I need to use sanitary products too because I bleed sometimes" I have no idea from where or why they are bleeding and I'm not brave enough to ask. Like what the fuck. This person often says batshit, radical trans cult type stuff, and also creepy tmi stuff about the knickers they like to wear etc... they peak transed me.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/07/2018 23:02

So in addition to having cramps in the uterus that they don't have trans women are now supposedly having trouble with the endometrium that they don't have either? Or is this meant to be about transmen?

Igorina · 13/07/2018 22:42

No one believes TW have periods. Not a single person.

Not their followers or the people responding to this in sympathy, not their family or friends - This person doesn't even truly believe they menstruate every month.

My oldest son doesn't believe in Santa anymore. I know he doesn't but he hasn't said it out loud yet so I will play along until he's ready.

People are simply playing along here too. As an adult, I would hate knowing that. This Bria person is fully aware that people are pretending.

Why not just talk about all the crap parts of taking hormones? I'm sure it must be hell on earth some days. That's real - Something so many people including women could relate too and talk about. Support even.

Poppyred85 · 13/07/2018 22:28

You can’t argue with stupid.

GameOfMinges · 13/07/2018 22:19

Surely if this individual experiences regular cramping and unpleasant mood swings as a result of the hormones they're taking, a visit to a doctor is in order?

justforareply · 13/07/2018 22:12

Omg
I must not be a woman 😳
I've never had pmt, no period pains for 30 years
When I orgasm, is It an ejaculation and I didn't know?
I wear trousers a lot so may be a sign

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 13/07/2018 21:49

They can have mine any time. I'm fucking sick of them

SophoclesTheFox · 13/07/2018 21:48

I am apoplectic at the colonisation as the next woman, and as someone whose life was blighted by endometriosis and adenomyosis, I will shout till I'm blue in the face that these are afflictions that affect WOMEN...but

...there are cases in the medical literature of males having endo. Not transwomen, but rarely, it has been noted in passing (I believe at the point of autopsy) that masses with the characteristics of endo have been found in males.

What that does is not support the idea of menses in males, but in the metaplasic theory of endo, which is that some cells may change from one type of cell to another - eg, cells that would ordinarily function as part of the uterine lining can stray elsewhere in the body - and that is what causes endo.

And so ends the endo-geek sidebar! (when you are too sick to move because of it, you have a lot of time on your hands to read PubMed).

None of this has anything to do with trans issues. That is sheer biological colonialism. And they can jog on.

IamtheOrpheliac · 13/07/2018 21:46

This is one area where I draw the line. If you don't have a uterus and have therefore never had a period, you can't possibly know what having a period feels like it. Also that 'one missing element' is kind of crucial. Bleeding is a pretty major part of periods. I'm not saying the cravings/mood swings/cramps aren't important and don't have huge affects on people, but the bleeding is the consistent point. A trans girl is never going to experience the panic of getting her period and realising she hasn't got any sanpro. She's never going to have to worry about leakage. Anaemia because of heavy bleeding isn't going to be an issue.

I'm sure that trans women can experience abdominal cramping and maybe even PMS like symptoms. But no, it isn't a period. I mean they're welcome to periods, preferably mine, I'd be better off without it. Also, if it is only that day or two once a month, lucky her. I get the hunger a good week before, then I've got a ridiculously short temper and cramps when I'm on (also for about a week) and then I spend 3-7 days afterwards feeling completely exhausted.

I don't understand this need to make everything about trans women. It's okay for there to be some parts of being a woman that aren't relevant to them. It's okay to be different but equal. Not everything is about you!

thenightsky · 13/07/2018 21:45

My friend's horrendous cramping stopped completely when she had her womb removed. Just her womb. I think she forgot the other 'bits' that are supposed to cramp too Confused Perhaps she's delusional?

LunaTrap · 13/07/2018 21:41

I've just read the twitter feed on this. Utterly depressed to discover that I was nodding along in agreement with Anne Marie Walters. The world has gone mad!

OlennasWimple · 13/07/2018 21:41

This is just a sick joke, right? No-one actually thinks this??

TruscumTeen · 13/07/2018 21:35

"we don't know how common it is in other genders"

WHAT??? Endometriosis is exclusive only to biological females. The only "other gender" (I think you mean sex) is male - the constituents of which do not have a uterus and so can not suffer from it.

TheFemaleGaze · 13/07/2018 21:35

Eh? Don't you need a uterus or ovaries for endometria to be formed?

numptynuts · 13/07/2018 21:35

I woke up with a hard on this morning. I don't have a cock but I get twinges in my groin.

ThatEscalatedQuickly · 13/07/2018 21:32

Well said this woman though

ElenOfTheWays · 13/07/2018 21:31

Ah. Damn menopause. I missed a trick there. Could have made a fortune. Grin

Apparently endo is indeed a possibility too Hmm

Givemeallyourcucumber · 13/07/2018 21:26

Might start bottling it up and selling it on eBay... How much do you think we could make? I am very very very heavy for the 1st 2 days so I could make a killing!

TheFemaleGaze · 13/07/2018 21:25

@potplant
It's why I got the implant. The pads and tampons no longer were sufficient. I couldn't leave the house. I would just sit in the bathtub or on the toilet on day 2. If I had to collect my daughter I made sure to have two bin liners on the car seat. While I hate the Mirena I'm not ready for a hysterectomy just yet. My wife had one and was out for 3 months because of endometriosis and the mess they found when they went in to operate.
