I'm a member of Women Against Feminism's FB group.

Don't you just know Serena Joy would have had one of those?

UpstartCrow · 12/07/2018 21:31

‘slugs for sodium chloride’ stole the idea from Turkeys for Noel and you know it!

Bowlofbabelfish · 12/07/2018 21:29

I might see if there’s a, ‘slugs for sodium chloride’ group.

For if the internet has taught me anything it’s that there truly is something for everyone out there...

SophoclesTheFox · 12/07/2018 21:28

I'm not a proper feminst any more since I flat out refused to not give a shit about male suicide Sad

Tricky business, this.

ANYWAY

Revenons à nos moutons.

I have been pondering all afternoon if the TWAW is actually an elaborate double bluff. I mean, nobody could actually be stupid enough to call to mind the Orwellian cultist brainwashing of "repeat after me" and genuinely mean in, with a straight face. Could they? Are we totally sure it's not gender critical people?

UpstartCrow · 12/07/2018 21:27

Good old #slacktivism, 'symbolism over substance' as Doug Stanhope calls it. You get to rant at women online and don't even have to run for the cure.

I'm not a proper feminist any more, not since Erin pizzeys dog ate my 'male tears' mug Sad

OlennasWimple · 12/07/2018 21:23

I'm a cat owner who isn't very fond of dogs. I'm just going to pop over the Kennel board and tell them that they are doing dog ownership wrong

Then I'm going to go onto the Archers thread, and tell that the Archers is a boring show and should be consigned to the scrap heap, even though I have never listened to an episode in my life.

Then I'm going to share my wisdom on grandparenting on GransNet, even though I'm not a grandparent.

Such fun!

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 12/07/2018 21:23

So what's your position on TWAW then Flutterby? Either yours or your FB groups, I'm not fussy.

If you think TWAM - congratulations, welcome to GC feminism
If you think TWAW - congratulations, welcome to pomo/homeopathic feminism

Bowlofbabelfish · 12/07/2018 21:18

I'm a member of Women Against Feminism's FB group.

Of course you are. Do they blanket train you?

Flutterby1891 · 12/07/2018 21:18

And not everybody who sees the bad elements inherent in some parts if feminism is the same person. Hmm

Flutterby1891 · 12/07/2018 21:16

I'm a member of Women Against Feminism's FB group. Technically, that's supporting a cause that helps men...

RedToothBrush · 12/07/2018 20:51

'Repeat after me: I can spout bollocks in an attempt to sound progressive, intelligent and spiritual according to what political ideology I am attempting to promote given the context, place and time'

It's still PR bollocks though.

FermatsTheorem · 12/07/2018 20:42

Oh is our new friend a PBP, Sophocles? Colour me surprised.

SophoclesTheFox · 12/07/2018 20:38

Not RTFT, but flutterby, you've let the cat out of the bag with your old favourite 7% of women are feminists stat. Not your first time at the feminst rodeo, is it? it never takes you long to get to that one!

It's been a while - how are you? Grin

Still no other hobbies?

ErrolTheDragon · 12/07/2018 20:37

It's a really pretty feminine definition, isn't it? But we'll generously let TW have it while women stick to the prosaic 'adult human of the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs'. (Shortened version as we don't want to have to use a huge building)

LemonJello · 12/07/2018 20:27

And Shon Faye themself came up with that definition so I’m sure there will be no objection to it, from women or from shifting constellations.

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 12/07/2018 20:10

I like it. Varying on the context, place and time of the biological, cultural and political phenomena, I might even be a transwoman myself. Sometimes. When Saturn is in Gemini.

JadziaSnax · 12/07/2018 19:59

Snapdragons are dragons.

LemonJello · 12/07/2018 19:57

I love that Errol!

Women are adult human females.

Transwomen are shifting constellations of biological, political and cultural phenomena which varies according to context, place and time.

Perfect!

If Shon Faye had a hand in it, maybe it was supposed to read
'Repeat after us: transwomen are shifting constellations of biological, political and cultural phenomena which varies according to context, place and time' but they'd have needed a bigger building? Shame - I think we'd all have been ok with that. Presumably TW would have liked it (apparently that phrase is Shon's attempt at distilling ideas of feminist thinkers) and they could have left women out of it. We wouldn't have sulked at lack of inclusivity.

imwideawake · 12/07/2018 19:36

Back to the thread

Good idea.
There's an obvious attempt to derail and the best way to deal with it is to ignore it/them/they/whatever and stick with the thread.

TransplantsArePlants · 12/07/2018 19:35

Bowl

I think I became more of a feminist when I had my sons. I couldn't see the stereotyping and gendered expectations directed at me (a WOMAN) but I could see them all of a sudden when they were directed at my boys.

Bloody sad really; but there you go

Bowlofbabelfish · 12/07/2018 19:31

Total cross post with pratchet there! But yeah, feminism is all for reducing the toxic masculinity.

radical feminism: actually quite good for men too.
