The snake eats its tail: Twitter furious that Scar Jo is playing a trans man in next movie

It's been announced Scarlett Johansson is going to play a trans-man in an upcoming film called Rub & Tug.

Apparently Scar-Jo dressing up as a man and a trans woman in the film is offensive "trans face" according to lots of people losing their heads on Twitter.

The irony is utterly breathtaking...

I'm constantly amazed at the double think that insists transgender men ARE men but but but are also totally distinguishable from men and in need of special treatment. You can't be BOTH a real, authentic man or woman AND trans. It's a contradiction.

ENOUGH WITH THE DOUBLESPEAK.

thebewilderness · 03/07/2018 21:49

Ah ok I see. Since when did they care about Transmen?
They almost always use transmen for legal precedents. There were many teen boys forcing their way into girls changing rooms in the name of gender identity rights but to go to court they finally found a transman who insisted on their right to shower with the males.

thebewilderness · 03/07/2018 21:45

The transgender lobbyist position has been for some time that only trans persons should represent trans person in fiction or anywhere else.

When asked why this rather unusual rule only applies to transgenders the response was because reasons.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 03/07/2018 21:39

Sardines you are making me snort with laughter here and it isn't very ladylike.

TransplantsArePlants · 03/07/2018 21:07

Woman plays Woman who wants to be Man Shock!

SardinesAreYum · 03/07/2018 21:03

A transman is a man.

"Presentation" is nothing to do with gender ID.

Biology is meaningless, noneistent and irrelevant.

Any sort of person can play any sort of part, because who is anyone to say what or who anyone is? On the inside. (How do they know what Scarlet Johansson's internal gender ID is?)

Meanwhile I await the day that het men happily sit down to watch a spot of "lesbian porn" featuring two strapping muscular lasses with big cocks.

SardinesAreYum · 03/07/2018 20:57

I think the idea is that all parts for men must be played by men

And all parts for women must be played by transwomen

Sams theory as sports, AWS etc etc

So, a transman can be played by a transwoman or a man.

Menwhile, there are plenty of support roles that cunty people can get involved in - film sets often need cleaning, and even the biggest stars need food for e.g. sandwiches.

MistressDeeCee · 03/07/2018 20:50

Ah ok I see. Since when did they care about Transmen?😕.

& yes, played by a man or Transman of course should be no issue at all. It's man playing a man.

Except that SJ playing a Transman starts from the same premise doesn't it as a Transman isn't a natal born man (am I allowed to say that?) so there shouldn't be any issue re her playing the part

Rules regulations TRA foibles..it's all confusing..

stillathing · 03/07/2018 20:49

If identity politics continues at this rate actors will only be allowed to play actors and all films will have to be films about films.....

Actually I totally agree with casting more disabled actors and BAME actors. But the irony in this instance is staggering. How can TRAs not make the very small mental leap to understanding how women feel when told they are no different from trans women.

DickTERFin · 03/07/2018 20:41

I think they think it should be played by a transman. However, surely it can be played by a transman or a man as they are one and the same thing, no?

MistressDeeCee · 03/07/2018 20:33

So they want a Transwoman to play a Transman?

I'm as confused as I'm sure they are. Do they even know what they want?

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 03/07/2018 20:31

I assume the kick off is because they want a trans women to play the part, but how would that work having a biological male pretend he is a women wanting to be a man?

But wouldn't that be triggering too? Having to pretend to want to be a man, when you really want the opposite (I think, I'm confused too now)

ijustwannadance · 03/07/2018 20:28

*actual

ijustwannadance · 03/07/2018 20:28

But if they got an antual trans man to play the part then he would, for some of the film, have to be a woman which would surely be triggering as the whole reason they are trans is because they hated being a woman. Confused

I assume the kick off is because they want a trans women to play the part, but how would that work having a biological male pretend he is a women wanting to be a man?ConfusedConfused

Dwayne "the Rock" Johnston plays a man with a prosthetic leg in his latest film. The bastards should've hired a disabled actor.

They seem to forget that films need big stars to make bloody money.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 03/07/2018 20:23

Ah bless...

insufficientlyfeminine · 03/07/2018 20:19

My favorite part of the article, "one author using more incorrect (and ignorant) language describing Gill as “sexually ambivalent.” (Note: Gender identity is separate from sexuality.)" All bolds are mine.

Pp asked if tras are a bit dim...

PositivelyPERF · 03/07/2018 20:10

I think my head just exploded

No that was just your lady brain. 😁

RJnomore1 · 03/07/2018 19:51

I think my head just exploded.

Mumsnut · 03/07/2018 19:50

Rapid Onset, perhaps?

SPOFS · 03/07/2018 19:49

So trans women are women, but only trans women can play trans women? If trans women are exactly the same as natal women, then why can't natal women play them?

No logical consistency, yet again.

SardinesAreYum · 03/07/2018 19:49

Meanwhile panto season every year we have men dressing up in enormous comedy breasts and doing over the top characatures (sp) of women and everyone is HAHAHA brilliant.

NameChangedAgain18 · 03/07/2018 19:49

Ooops, sorry, cross posted. Ignore.

NameChangedAgain18 · 03/07/2018 19:48

Just out of interest, was there a similar furore when Eddie Redmayne donned "trans face" in the Danish Girl?

Or is the problem again, with a woman doing something?

SardinesAreYum · 03/07/2018 19:48

"Did anyone complain when Eddie Redmayne played a trans woman in The Danish Girl?"

Yes - an awful lot.

But then the actor in orange is the new black who is trans (not seen it and don't know much about it) played frank n furter in rocky horror show remake (why why why????????? so many awful remakes of perfect things at the moment) and no-one seemed to mind even though frank was(is) a man - a transvesite - and 100% a male character. So how can frank be played by a woman? (trans women are women). Makes no sense at all.

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 03/07/2018 19:47

They did Vodka

It's quite hard to keep straight isn't it (no pun intended)?

If you put on certain clothes and claim you're a certain gender you are that gender and no one can question you (although you mean sex rather than gender).

If you put on certain clothes and claim to be portraying someone of the same sex but who claims to be a different gender (although they mean sex) for artistic purposes that's offensive.
