Btw, I have reported my own comment upthread as, despite knowing the name of the person, I know it is not fair on mnhq to name them on their site.
So here it is, reposted minus the name :)

...

Btw doxxer - assuming you are reading - can I just say that until yesterday I had no reason to dislike you. I knew you had fallen out with others but we have never personally had a disagreement.

But releasing the whole of a groups membership because some of the people in there allegedly bullied you is bloody unforgivable. Did you stop for a second to think about any women you have put at risk? Women who (assuming you weren't bullied by like, 170 women) have nothing to do with your disagreement with some of the MF members. Have you seen the TRAs taking the list apart and reporting people to their employers?

This is more than burning bridges, this is fucking napalm.

R0wantrees · 01/07/2018 11:18

Beyond thank you for the info. I must confess to enjoying the odd womanly pub crawl and a few pints. Shall have to see what other modifications I need to make.

R0wantrees · 01/07/2018 11:15

Yes I have been reading up Scarlet although it seems that one doesn't actually have to have too much knowledge when commenting as a man. Just strength of conviction.

YouStacey · 01/07/2018 11:10

I have an HRT appointment on Friday - shall I identify as a man for that? Grin

BeyondRaggydoll · 01/07/2018 11:02

Rowan, quarter finals on Friday...

Uruguay v France - 3pm
Brazil / Mexico v Belgium / Japan - 7pm

Manly pub crawl?

ScarletBegonias · 01/07/2018 11:00

I see your interest in football has grown R0wan since you were given that team coaching role for Team Sportacus Grin.

I'm looking forward to wearing my #ManFriday I Am Sportacus tee shirt again on Friday.

Stilettosandan0venglove · 01/07/2018 10:58

Recently I do feel that there has been a bit of an effort to scare women into not organising or connecting with each other online. Don't think it's going to work, though it might encourage more action in RL too which won't be a bad thing.

Ineed agreed.

R0wantrees · 01/07/2018 10:40

I'm going to be a man on Friday, I have my T Shirt ready so hoping to helpfully explain the offside rule, criticise the referee and add my insightful commentary over any footie on TV. (I gather there's quite a bit on at the moment)

BeyondRaggydoll · 01/07/2018 10:34

Oh yes, I will be a man on Friday! I'm gonna man the hell out of Friday.

averylongtimeasspartacus · 01/07/2018 10:25

I really think all this constant going over and over is missing the point.
Sweary has explained what happened, Other posters have repeatedly quoted what she said.

The point is the list of names was copied from the Facebook group and shared on Twitter, with malicious intent. The person who did that, and the TRAs who have pounced on it with glee are the ones you should be criticising- not arguing over T&Cs.

The original FB group has gone, but the shows not over till the fat lady sings Grin as they say.

Everyone has tightened their security, and the Show goes on.

I for one will be a Man this Friday- who else?

Ereshkigal · 01/07/2018 10:23

Yes, women's groups have been infiltrated as the same applies everywhere from crocheting to campaigning. Thing is, it is deemed to be transphobic doing ANYTHING that doesn't include trans people - so gathering to show just how things that are not yet law will affect WOMEN and GIRLS is automatically seen as transphobic, because it doesn't include trans people - even though this campaign does as it includes what we might call 'GENUINE' trans people.

It creates quite a paranoid atmosphere that women have to meet in secret in order to express any opinion about women's issues without being targeted or expected to modify their speech so as not to exclude biologically male trans people.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 01/07/2018 10:17

Yes but the person must have been a member of the group surely to have access to the list of members...which means a member has done this?

Yes, women have had to hold meetings at secret locations in order to meet and talk to each other, and people that don't really want to attend book tickets and then leak the venues so that they can be harassed into cancelling, or blockaded to try and stop women talking.

Of course someone joined up in order to get a list in order to post it online. They obviously pretended to be something they weren't in order to get access.

OrchidInTheSun · 01/07/2018 10:13

Gill - read R0wan's post where she has copied YesItsADebate's post. It explains everything.

Ereshkigal · 01/07/2018 10:11

totally want to go nur nur nur nur told you so

Yes, of course you do. Not very nice thing to do though, no? You appear to be enjoying grandstanding and condescending to women concerned about the leak of their personal data and use by a bunch of unhinged misogynists with form for contacting employers and personal abuse so maybe take the smug sneery attitude down a touch? Just a friendly suggestion.

revealingnothingfuckinpersonal · 01/07/2018 10:09

I wouldn't want to be facebook admin of any group that has any kind of presence outside of facebook.

Manfriday have a website and a real life presence. They blur the lines at that point - if all you did was only ever on Facebook, yes you would of course be protected by Facebook t&C potentially (but the situation of a group admin in a private/secret group ISN'T clear and most likely needs decided by a test case).

Super have pm'd you as your assertion is incorrect.

Gillwill57 · 01/07/2018 10:03

Yes but the person must have been a member of the group surely to have access to the list of members...which means a member has done this?

Gillwill57 · 01/07/2018 10:00

It has to be a member of the group to have leaked membership list...so someone in the group has done this

SuperDandy · 01/07/2018 09:53

I'm going with Revealing being one of the data professionals making a lot of moola by convincing small organisations that they need a wagonload of paperwork in place or the ICO will ruin them.

Just to clarify a couple of things that came up since my last post:

1 At this point, FB group admins do NOT hold any GDPR related responsibility for any content in their groups or for data held by fb on groups members. Fb have been explicit about this. I'd hate for group admins to go away from this thread thinking they need to leave the platform because of bogus GDPR bogeymonsters.

2 The person who shared the list does not appear to have broken any fb t&c. Happy to be corrected inthst if someone can find it, but I've had a good hunt through and can't find it mentioned anywhere.

3 The person who shared the list does not appear to have breached any data protection either. The only material fact made public was the membership of the group, and the public profile data. Their membership of the group would be held to be FB data, and there is no committment anywhere in their terms to treat group memberships as private personal information. It will be covered by their usual caveat that anything you post or do on fb belongs to them and unless you specifically make it private it's fair game. Since group membership cannot be hidden from other members of the group by joining the group you consent to them knowing you are in it.

Reveal I get where you're coming from and I'm sure it's a good place. If it helps, I was accused of scaremongering earlier this week for saying that GC activists were leaving themselves vulnerable to infiltration and malicious allegations. I totally want to go nur nur nur nur told you so, but then I worried that someone would decide I'd done it all just to prove my point or something equally daft. I do agree that there is a certain amount of naivety around the likelihood of malicious accusations and hence police interest, but I don't think GDPR is a realistic concern for them at this point.

Ereshkigal · 01/07/2018 09:37

have yet to see any evidence posted here that the person suspected actually did this dastardly deed. It seems to be just assumed.

I doubt all the evidence the Man Friday women may have about the identity of the doxxer (if they had personal messages etc) would be posted on this thread, especially as the matter has been reported to the police apparently by more than one person.

R0wantrees · 01/07/2018 08:14

This was the #ManFriday update here yesterday:

Yesitsadebate posted:

"Hello everyone,

As a follow-up to Sweary’s post, this is what has happened and what we’re doing about it:

  • A person who we have had concerns about for several months appears to have joined the #ManFriday group using a sock account/ been passed screenshots by a sympathiser. They then had a screenshot posted on Twitter by a TRA account.
  • The #ManFriday admin team took action to remove over 100+ people from the group: anyone who had not been actively posting or who had joined the group recently.
  • We then explained on here, on the FB group and to the people directly affected what had happened. The post from the FB group was then taken by this person, we assume, and we received a message via the #ManFriday website threatening police action. This person also posted a couple of rants on the Mumsnet thread, which were swiftly deleted by MNHQ as from a PBP.
  • This person then published the stolen #ManFriday membership list (incomplete), which was tweeted by a TRA account. We were made aware of this PDQ, reported the tweets and alerted then closed the group as we couldn’t be sure of our members’ privacy.
  • This person then set up a couple of Twitter accounts to direct accusations at Mumsnet and #ManFriday. As the Tweets indicated that the person was threatening self-harm and behaving erratically, I called the police, who conducted a welfare check.
  • Statements have been made to the police today.
  • The IPO are also being contacted today, as a precaution. It’s Facebook who holds the leaked data rather than us but we want to do the right thing.
  • We’re contacting the people on the list as quickly as we can but as we aren’t FB friends with everyone, it’s not a simple exercise. Sweary posted on here to try to get the message out quickly to as many people as possible.

It’s a crap situation and I’m so sorry to everyone who’s worried or who is now being targeted online. Tweets targeting people’s employers are being reported as soon as we spot them.

If anyone is worried in particular, please do send me a FB message and I’ll try to respond ASAP."

CosmicCanary · 01/07/2018 08:12

Gill
The list shows members names and the area they lived which would allow others to doxx them.
The motivation behind leaking it is anyones guess...

They wanted these women to get doxxed it was always their plan?
Sour grapes?
Did not agree with the groups premis?
Moment of madness?
Revenge?

Gillwill57 · 01/07/2018 08:07

Sorry am confused, why would anyone leak the membership list online, ? Whats the motivation

CosmicCanary · 01/07/2018 07:56

revealing
Thats a great list of services you can provide however as it stands those services are not needed by MF.

Can you not understand that GDPR is not required unless personal data is stored?

You have already admitted you were not part of the group so have no idea how, if or why they stored personal date. All of this is a pointless effort on your part.

CosmicCanary · 01/07/2018 07:52

Seeing a gang attacking one person sickens me...no matter what the justification, it is nasty bulling and a campaign group turning into a lynch mob is not a good look.

I have not seen this on this thread is it elsewhere on MN or other social media?

R0wantrees · 01/07/2018 07:51

you did say this though revealing and so it seems unlikely to have been a goer:

"ManFriday were naive and made some potentially (or what look like on the face of it - I'm not in the group so I don't know exactly) poor decisions about where to host their activism and they need to learn from this going forward.

And, you know, the keep quiet don't say anything and insinuations about me here really don't help the cause of manfriday at all. They have made me very very angry - I'm sorry but they should have protected their members better. (I'm not one was not one never was one for the record) They ballsed up and they need to take that on the chin."
