Yes I know there was a palaver in Truro but this will Be a brilliant event with some fantastic speakers.
The Eventbrite is only showing Helen saxby at the moment but there will also be Ruth serwotka from WPUK, kathleen Stock, lecturer in philosophy and Gill Smith, detransitioned woman.

It will be a brilliant event with top class speakers. Hoping to see you all there!

^I hope you will take my comment seriously and protect all your trans students and staff.
^
Protect them from what exactly some people, most probably women, meeting and talking as they are perfectly free to do?

Ffs.

Sorry are interesting.

I agree Wanderabout. Would be nice to have a concise sentence about the impact of self ID on women and girls available.

Wanderabout · 28/07/2018 15:47

The first article doesn't make any of the impact on women and girls clear. It's a shame because the second one is inaccurate but much more understandable

NotTerfNorCis · 28/07/2018 15:47

Rosie Hayes was a FWR poster who hasn't been around much since the Brighton event.

Procrastinator1 · 28/07/2018 15:42

Rosie Hays' comments interesting. She seems familiar

"I was also at the WPUK meeting and there wasn’t any reasoned or intellectual debate on the GRA consultation - it was a thinly disguised transphobes rally. So pleased you articulated my thoughts so well."

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 28/07/2018 15:17

Worth checking out the tweets on this under Rachelle Foster's tweet about it. Joani Walsh is challenging her comments, and showing her up as someone spreading misinformation. Bit DARVO eh?

Procrastinator1 · 28/07/2018 15:04

Two accounts of the meeting on the Brighton and Hove Independent, a paper owned by Johnson press which also owns the "i". One from Helen Saxby and the other Rachelle Foster

Can't see any provision for below the line comment, but letters to the editor might be possible.

HarryLovesDraco · 04/07/2018 10:42

Posie I wouldn't dream of asking you to do anything, I know how you would respond. You do what you want - I'm just pointing out the impact of trashing an event set up to raise awareness and facilitate debate. If you still choose to do that that is up to you.

HLD. I think it's something quite sexist about asking women to play nice when they're fully aware of some incredible devious and bullying behaviour. So please don't.

ArcheryAnnie · 04/07/2018 08:33

Having different organisations set up meetings on this issue is a good thing, not a bad one. There's room for all kinds of approaches.

(Also Fox is now non-binary?! Welp, so much for "I was always a boy".)

HarryLovesDraco · 04/07/2018 08:17

Thanks for saying that. As you know, the meetings are organised by local women. We would not have been able to do so without the experience and financial backing of WPUK and I would hope that even you would rather a meeting went ahead than not? Especially in one of the most trans activism friendly cities in the U.K.

Whatever your views on WPUK may be, we have some top class speakers (all women) and it will be a brilliant event. Trashing it in public is a bit of an own goal for the cause you support don't you think?

By The Way I was the person on James O'Brian.

signed another unmentionable.

therealposieparker · 04/07/2018 08:11

It's a public forum. But I had already asked for that comment to be removed. I think the Morning Star letter in which Woman's Place reference Venice Allan's event in Bristol and refuse to mention her made me cross, I shouldn't have commented when so angry.

HarryLovesDraco · 04/07/2018 08:04

Thanks Posie I think we can manage fine without your advice. Didn't ask for it, not sure why you think we need it.

Only 12 days to go. Follow the eventbrite link above to get your ticket.

HarryLovesDraco · 03/07/2018 12:34

Hooray!
There will doubtless be pub going afterwards and jubilant drinkage we hope

Sounds wonderful! I am out of the country that week or I would.

JudithButlerNot · 02/07/2018 23:04

Take the day off! Sunshine, beach, cycle on the prom then finish it off listening to great speakers and maybe a beer or two.

Fox fisher is now non binary so clearly their deeply held belief that they were a boy wasn't quite right...

OP posts:
ImPreCis · 02/07/2018 16:19

I will be there. Hastings was excellent and sold out. Might get DH to drive so that I can have a drink after this one!

R0wantrees · 02/07/2018 15:10

It was Fox Fisher's experience which James O'Brian was so inspired by when 'robustly challenging' women raising concerns about the changes to Top Shop's policy on changing rooms,

freerlives.wordpress.com/2017/11/16/lbc-and-access-to-female-changing-rooms/

'LBC and access to female changing rooms'

"James: …inside, they’re absolutely, absolutely, female… Fox Fisher who’s … an activist in this field… he was born a girl and he had explained to me in painstaking detail how he always knew he was a boy. So I just want you to tell me what you think he’s doing. Is he lying or is he… being brainwashed by someone? Or, because if you told me something about your… innermost soul and self…"
