Brilliant. The last para in particular made me 'LOL' and I am someone who feels the need to put 'LOL' in inverted commas.

Rather than just naming the problem (that transwomen don't like to be misgendered), this article has given some reasons for why the problem exists and at least a couple have helped me to understand why these reasons never felt real to me - that their arguments seemed spurious.

And yes, Mumsnet would do well to read this and to understand that we don't express our fears here with the express intention of hurting transwomen/men, this is not necessarily their space and why would they be reading it? Other than to search out examples of the "literal violence" they feel they must justify.

Brilliant article - a breath of fresh air - and oh so true.

Awesome!

Brilliant summation of the issue from a female perspective. Hopefully the MN management team will read it and learn.

Ifonlyus · 27/06/2018 10:24

Excellent. Hurray for feminist philosophers.

Baroquehavoc · 27/06/2018 10:14

Well worth a read.

The whole last paragraph is the crux of the matter.

Women are being told that they shouldn't say things that men don't like. And definitely shouldn't do anything to stop men getting what they want.

Marvellous!

Bloody hell. I'm gushing. Yay me! I can gush! Who knew?

LangCleg · 27/06/2018 09:58

Please, everyone read it. Killer last line - right up my (fucking) alley.

LangCleg · 27/06/2018 09:55

I leave it aside for the moment, on the assumption that most readers aren’t so sophomoric

LOL and burn!

LangCleg · 27/06/2018 09:54

Kathleen is bloody heroic and that is a great piece. Since she decided to go full above the parapet, she's got better and better and is always so courteous and amiable.

This bit made me laugh because it seems applicable to the deleterious state of affairs hereabouts:

Even though I mention these as exemplary sentences, rather than assert them myself, I assume that at least some readers think I just wrote something awful.
