I know it's hard to tell how mixed up you feel
Hoping what you need is behind every door
Each time you get hurt, I don't want you to change
Because everyone has hopes, you're human after all
The feeling sometimes, wishing you were someone else
Feeling as though you never belong
This feeling is not sadness, this feeling is not joy
I truly understand. Please, don't cry now

Please don't go, I want you to stay
I'm begging you please, please don't leave here
I don't want you to hate
For all the hurt that you feel
The world is just illusion, trying to change you

Was that actually supposed to be a poem? It was astonishingly bad. So bad that I couldn't get past how bad it was to actually get some meaning from it. What is the OP actually trying to say?

I loved the Anti Trans Hate Speakers first album. Full of energy and heart. Great melodies and songwriting. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize, quite right too.

"A Latte and an Orange Segment" is the standout track from the album of course, but "Don't PayPal Me, Love" is also a modern classic.

Couple of decent covers on there too; "It's Raining Redacted" by The Weather Redactors is particularly good.

@TransplantsArePlants

I just wiki'd and 'What Fresh Hell Is this' is a quote of Dorothy Parker

My favourite DP quote was when she was being hounded in the McCarthy era and some random guy attacked her at a party. She said something like "With the crown of thorns I'm wearing, why should I worry about a prick like you?" Grin

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/06/2018 09:40

Oh what a shame! Ah well, I may go and dig out the books - I could do with a laugh, having your rights as a woman erased is so draining Isn’t it..?

Battleax · 21/06/2018 09:37

Damn. It doesn’t actually work. But it made me laugh anyway.

Thanks Bowl Smile

Your target audience.
I see all the old deceivers,
And we all just sing their song''

You must post a link to Vogon poetry generator. Making up Vogon poetry is my ear worm of the day.

sportinguista · 21/06/2018 09:29

I now have noted that this is the first own goal of the World Cup, and the scorer didn't even need to set foot on a pitch. Perhaps we need to keep count?

SisyphusWasGenderCritical · 21/06/2018 09:23

Oh thanks for that Danny Kaye track. It's been years....

"The King is in The Altogether"

Who is going to take that username first?

BettyDuMonde · 21/06/2018 09:22

Oooh!

Are we having a sing along? Because I’ve got this stuck in my head all the time at the moment:

m.youtube.com/watch?v=6p-lDYPR2P8

‘We are living, in a material world and I am a material girl’

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/06/2018 09:20

I'm TOTALLY confused. Is this a British thing?

George this thread is, in a nutshell, why the British are resistant to extreme ideologies. We will irreverently take the piss out of anything we deem ridiculous or pompous. We don’t swallow it. We allow them, as long as they are suitably wing-clipped but we don’t pander to kings, religions or people whose stance is incoherent and ridiculous.

We have a long, glorious tradition of Taking The Piss as a form of political, religious and social protest, from Hogarth all the way to spitting image, Have I Got News For You, Father Ted, the thick of it and Brass Eye.

British humour is unique, and an excellent form of innoculation against misuse of power.

I've always loved the Kinks. I'm particularly fond of Lola, and this lyric:

Well I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/06/2018 09:10

Vogon/TRA alliance

Grin I think the Guide may need to be re written...

“Vogon poetry is of course, the third worst in the universe.
The second worst is that of the Azgoths of Kria. During a recitation by their poet master Grunthos the Flatulent of his poem "Ode to a Small Lump of Green Putty I Found in My Armpit One Midsummer Morning" four of his audience died of internal haemorrhaging and the president of the Mid-Galactic Arts Nobbling Council survived by gnawing one of his own legs off. Grunthos was reported to have been "disappointed" by the poem's reception, and was about to embark on a reading of his 12-book epic entitled "My Favourite Bathtime Gurgles" when his own major intestine, in a desperate attempt to save humanity, leapt straight up through his neck and throttled his brain.
The very worst poetry of all perished along with its creator, Paul Neil Milne Johnstone of Redbridge, in the destruction of the planet Earth. Vogon poetry is mild by comparison.”

There is a Vogon poetry generator on the BBC website somewhere. It’s very good

I saw a sign in the window of the Gap this morning.

It said ‘SALE women’s dresses’

It hurt. I wept.

Loving Danny KayeGrin

JuicySwan · 21/06/2018 08:28

I know it’s hard for men
Just so traumatic when
A section of society
Refusing their propriety
Has something for themselves.

Melamin · 21/06/2018 08:26

Plagiarism or Appropriation?

prettyusefulsometimes · 21/06/2018 08:18

I try to keep these words in mind whenever I open these sorts of threads:

"Look at the King! Look at the the King! Look at the King, the King, the King! The King is in the altogether, but altogether, the altogether He's altogether as naked as the day that he was born The King is in the altogether, but altogether, the altogether It's altogether the very least the King has ever worn"
